QuoteFederico Fellini's Satyricon?

You've got it!!!  :-D

Quote(by the way Matagot, are you italian?)

I'm British  ;)
I'm a fan of Fellini's filmography. Satyricon being my favourite. I can't speak Italian, but I love the film enough to even watch it without subtitles  8-)

Time to add more clues!  8-)

It's Italian.
It is based on an Ancient Roman book.

Neither.

The film is more Caligula than Clash of the Titans.

Nowhere near as graphic and controversial as Caligula (certainly not hardcore like Caligula's 'extended' version!), but still quite daring for it's time.

Nope. The genre is slightly similar but much more surreal.

Quoteinspired by the Space Quest Historian's "let's play" series on Youtube

I never used to play the games, but I did thoroughly enjoy watching Space Quest Historian's vids  :-D

Keep up the good work!!!

I'm not sure which horror films you may have seen, but I'm guessing you're seeking more on the 'art' side of horror? The ones I can recommend are Eraserhead, Alien, The Thing (1982) and The Shining (1980).

I like Ito as well, if you like anime in general I recommend the following anime: When They Cry, Perfect Blue, Corpse Party and Tokyo Ghoul (the manga for this one is really good!)

To add another category of horror media, I would like to recommend the following youtube channels that do some pretty good (and scary!) short horror tales: Wansee Entertainment, Nightmare Tales, Animated Horror Flicks, Mr. Nightmare and Llama Arts.

This game is looking outstanding! I'll be keeping any eye on your progress.
It's reminding me a little like Dark Seed, but I think that game was also based on Lovecraft.

Keep going!  :) :) :) :) :) :)

The most scariest thing about it to me is that I have absolutely no idea what it is, thus adding a kind of Lovecraftian vibe to it.

The creepiest monsters always tap into our sense of "What the...? This ain't right!"

So to put things into perspective, if I were to do the angle-per-room approach, it would basically mean about 75 state-saving 'squares' (each space consisting of four angled images) which would make way for a relatively short map and no doubt images by the tonne for larger maps.

QuotePreferred way is to use only one room for the whole maze, with like the ground as the background, and then layer sprites as walls according to the player's current position in the dungeon

QuoteLike Gilbert said: if you've already been explained how to make such game, as you said, the people who explained it probably also explained to you that it's best to draw each angle dynamically, and even the whole maze in just one room.

I'll give that a good experimenting. So I'll begin by designing a basic ground and ceiling background and then create images of separate walls and apply those like objects?

QuoteRegardless of how much time you spend figuring out the necessary scripting, it will be worth it.
Even if it takes you months, it will be worth it.

Oh yes! Since Eye of the Beholder, I've always wanted to make such a game. It'll be well worth the effort 8-)

I know I've tackled this question on if its possible to design games like Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder and have been given the answer on how that could be achieved, I've been planning ideas for a game that uses maze like movement but is not as complex like those dungeon games, in other words, there won't be any wandering monsters to fight. Monsters that are faced, for example, are dealt puzzle-wise. This would make way for a slightly simpler approach to such a game.

But onto my question:
When designing the game is it practical to use 'rooms' to depict each movement view? For example, if you clicked on a direction arrow to turn 90 degrees that just requires a change of room?

Thanks guys :-D

I'll give it a whirl.

Hey there! :-D

I'm in the middle of planning a murder mystery game in the style of Cruise for a Corpse and Laura Bow: the Colonel's Bequest and one significant feature in those games is the use of a clock to mark the passage of time whenever a clue or event is encountered.

I have already searched the forums with as much keywords as I could gather in the hope of finding the way to do this, but although there are some useful ideas, my intention is not to use REAL time, but to have a kind of trigger that creates the illusion that time has passed every ten minutes whenever an event is caused (if I had missed a relevant topic, please let me know:)). Also, to make sure that the game is not too linear with the usage of this time system and would allow the 'detective' to uncover the clues in whatever order the player chooses with each time the game is played.

To summerize, the game begins at 8.00pm and whenever a clue is found (in whatever order) the game quickly jumps to an animation of a clock forwarding ten minutes. This would also bring other problems I need to consider because obviously as time passes the NPCs would end up moving about in different locations (not literally moving, but disappear in one location and are found to be somewhere else) and that various locations may be locked in some times and open in others.

What advice could you give me to achieve this?

I check the tutorial out ;)

I've always been curious about that game since the early Richard Garfield edition.
Speaking of Richard Garfield games, have anyone ever played Filthy Rich? Brilliant game that uses cards and four card folder sleeves.

Ghosts and Zombies in Smash Up are a nasty combination. So are Pirates and Robots.

Shadows over Camelot is another great game to play.
