I always prefer some text. I can't stand interfaces where there are icons without text. Doesn't mean you can't have a big icon and a small text label by its side, though.

I actually got stuck in this place. I think it's a bug.

It looks good. Consider subduing (reduce intensity) some of the colors. And generally kitchens/eating rooms shouldn't be painted green, because it makes the food look bad. In real life, anyways.

On the first picture I made the lamp wire greyer to make it look thinner and used the curves tool on the poster to make it a little less bright and blue.
On the second I reduced chose a new color for the wall, most importantly with reduced saturation and not greenish. Then I made the tiles greyer and applied a gradient to them. The gradient didn't really fit in, but I think the rest turned out well.

Steve keeps disappearing to find Crys and comes back without him, and whenever I steal the key from Eve she wants it back the moment I am out the door. I think I need to find the key to Danielle's cave and draw the curtains so Crystal can escape from there, but I don't know how.

I can't unzip it. I tried the built-in unzip feature of Windows 7 and TUGZip.

A bug with the lift/hand tool:

When trying to use keys on lift button, the cursor changes immediately into the hand. To use the keys one must change back into they keys while the cursor is over the button.
And the same with the canteen doors.

Subtitles appear if you turn off speech in setup, but that defies the purpose of voice acting. Another annoyance is that the cursor changes into the use tool spontaneously.

It really drags things out if all dialogue in the game is read by the actors rather than allowing the player to read and skip the rest of the message. Furthermore, sometimes a few words here and there are missed because of the background music.

Caught a frog. I'm thinking I have to catch the snake or the monkey (?) with the frog, but I just can't do it. My family doesn't want the frog.

I had already discovered the other island. When you say pick up a few flies I can assure you I had already tried clicking the swarm many times. But after clicking like mad in the area I finally managed to catch a fly.

I've never done anything like that (the image I posted was made with GIMP). I just said I had seen this in a game, not that I was capable of making it ;). Too bad I don't remember which. You need to have an alpha channel for this to work.

If you're using a vector program such as Inkscape or Illustrator, the equivalent would be an ellipse filled with a circular gradient from black to transparent.

And, your artwork is stunning, I'm not critizising it.

It does look a little awkward when walking and stuff, but IMO that's nothing compared to having all your characters float in midair throughout the game. It must be really subtle, I can't stress that enough. I made an example, it uses a simple elipse that is strongly feathered and filled with black. This layer is set to 50% opacity and stacked under the character:
