I had the privilege of testing this and it is a beauty. It is definitely worth the wait, as a lot of effort has gone into this.

I am currently testing this and I cannot hold my silence. You guys are going to be blown away by this! He's put so much into this so far, and there's a way to go. But this is going to be worth the wait!

Perhaps a more diabolical approach is needed.

Maybe the text should be more marketing-like.

Can you survive?
Will you triumph?
Save a world far away.

Short and thrilling can pull them in.

Congrats on the release.

This one's got a bit of everything.

The sci-fi theme we all love.
It's longer than most of the games here which I like.
There's some tense action and lots of cut scenes to give the story.
The puzzles can be worked through without too much trouble. But I like puzzles to be harder than heck, so I think this pace has wider appeal.
A great effort from an experienced designer.

Go ahead and give it ago!

Hints & Tips / Re: Beyond Eternity episode 1

There were two issues with the game that Andy found. These have been fixed in the new version 1.0.6. Again, all saved games will still work because the fixes were so minor. So be sure to get the new version if finding one of these.
Spoiler

1. A bulb disappears when transferring the 100w bulb to the other character who has both the 120w and 180w bulbs.
2. If you set any of the three dials wrong and push the red button on the chamber side panel, you aren't able to see then ending.

The hints look like a text file when I download them in Firefox. Can you fix that? Same with the walkthrough you link to in the "Hints and Tips" thread.
Peter from the Netherlands has these on his website:

Dutch website

When using Firefox with Mediafire, all of the html text shows at first. You have to click the green download link above and save it to your computer, then open it from there. But Peter's website will give you the walkthru in a readable form straight from the link.

I guess I am still living in the golden age of adventure games when the puzzles were hard. You didn't used to be given a lot of hints. You had to spend a lot of time figuring the puzzles out. You had to close the game and come back. These puzzles nagged at you, got on your nerve, yet you had to go back as much as you hated it. You didn't expect to finish the game in 15 minutes.

The puzzle that always sticks in my mind is the MI2 monkey wrench puzzle. You were supposed to know that a fire hydrant on a natural island would turn off a waterfall? You were then supposed to know that a monkey wrench, something known only in the US, was supposed to work on such a large and tight nut, when special tools are normally used on a hydrant? You then make the connection to a monkey, figure out you have to hypnotize him (with a very obscure method of a banana and a metronome - what is that?), and know you he'll stay as a wrench as you tuck him away in your coat. Really?!?

But it stuck with me to this day! It was ridiculous and hilarious. And I still can't get it out my head.

I read notes from new people coming to the site and they talk about these good old days and how it kept them adventure gaming all these years. Face it, you all like hard puzzles even though you also hate them. So why not throw in a hard one now and then? And don't give them the answer in the game, nor too many clues. Leave those in the hints/walkthru.

A very hard balance I'm trying to figure out myself, so great idea for a thread!

OMG this looks so cool how could anybody possibly stay away. You gotta put this in the completed games thread!

edit: Was fun guys. Was that really CaptainD at the end? Don't quit your day job. ;)

Sorry to be bumping my own thread again. I'm not trying to stay on top of the list. But I still see quite a few new downloads, and a late game bug was found that can prevent you from finishing the game.

Spoiler

If one player has all of the tanning bulbs, and gives them to the other player, the 100 watt bulbs will disappear from both inventories. You then cannot find them again.

So please make sure you have version 1.0.4.

Saved games are not impacted

Really sorry about that.

There are also other minor fixes and selecting a beaker in inventory will now show you what is in it.

Here is the .exe link (25 MB vs. 131 MB) - same link as a few replies above:

oooh, feedback. This is wonderful! Thank you so much for the comments.

One of these is intentional. That doesn't mean it was a good thing to do though.
Quotenobody really seems to react to these people vanishing into thin air, which rather kills the moment.
This gives a chance to spill the beans on my objectives for the game (at least for episode 1):
Spoiler

The non-player characters represent all of us. We are buried in our own personal lives and do not see many important things going on around us. The main characters (which is really you the game player) are left with the reality they are on their own to figure this out. It is up to you to do what is needed.

Also, the game is full of things like long halls (which you can speed through later), puzzle after puzzle, and puzzles that require hundreds of mouse clicks. These represent the struggles we must go through in life to reach something important. That is never easy. But we need to do the right thing and get through our own personal struggles.

I really do appreciate the comments very much!

Oh that is one hilarious picture! (laugh)

I managed to fix this without harming anything. If you overwrite the Eternity1.exe file only, you will not break any saved games. After overwriting the .exe file, just have Blake leave the library and come back. Rebecca will be moved down to where she can move around again. And no one will be able to do this again using the new version. Oh yeah, and Blake should remove his beany first. (roll)

This link is for the 1.0.3 version of the .exe file only. It does not contain any other files, so don't use this if you are installing the game.
New EXE file only - 25MB

The installer is now updated also. None of the links have been changed to protect the innocent. If this had been an actual emergency you would have been instructed how to remove Blake's beany yourself. OK, I will not quit my day job.

I think it's not likely that most would run into this, so it should be OK to continue using version 1.0.2. This is especially true if you've passed the library puzzle. Of course you'll avoid this if you overwrite with the new .exe file.

The coder for this, JJS, said to do a long press to bring up the keyboard. On my phone, a long press brought up the darn Google search. It must work on some Android devices but not others. I did find that you could save one game (without a name). You could then retrieve that one even though you don't see text in the load window. That was the best I could do.

The first step is to copy the apk file onto the Android and run it. It will install an app called AGS with a blue cup icon.

I've noticed that your Android device will not sleep while you are playing a game. You just close the game, and it will go back to sleeping normally.

You should have some kind of file browsing app. I have one called MyFiles. After installing the apk, you should see a folder in there called AGS. Just open that and create folders beneath it for all the games you want to play. Then open each folder and copy the game's .exe and any voice files into it. When you launch the AGS blue cup icon you should get a list of all the folders you created. A selection of the folder launches that game.

You can usually use the power USB connection to hook to your PC for copying files. Or dropbox is another way to get the files over. Dropbox has apps for all types of devices.

I created the game in AGS 3.2.1 so it could use the JJS ports for Android and iOS. I have played and tested the game on both an iPad and an Android phone. It can be difficult to select some of the hotspots, but it can be done. My Android phone was really crackly on the music. But the graphics look really cool on an iPad, and it seems to be the right size device to work. A phone seems just too small, except maybe for elves.

Android is quite easy, you just install the JJS app, hook up your device to your PC, and copy Eternity1.exe, speech.vox, and audio.vox into a folder with the game's name. Full instructions are in the thread:

JJS Android port

For iOS, you would have to have a jailbroken device. I bought a used iPad with Cydia and it's quite cool and safe to use a jailbroken device. All it does it make it so you have access to all the files, like you do on all Windows devices. I use a program called iBrowse to hook up to my PC and copy the files over. You have to rename the .exe to ac2game.dat and have the .vox files there. It's talked about in this thread:

Thanks. I felt like an idiot for having to ask.
Don't. I just completed an entire game doing this by switching the player, turning him invisible and making him walk. We all learn new things all the time.

Back in Blake's bedroom, the diagram is in his books. Only Blake can get it. The game only allows you to get the diagram after Andy tells you about it (which he must have already done). Congrats on getting the cube!
