Congrats on the release! I've just finished the game and really enjoyed it. Great work! I'll leave a glowing Steam review in just a sec.

A few minor points:

Spoiler
When I asked for a glass of pastis after the parrot had already flown away, the parrot still ended the conversation with "Good one", despite not being there. (I'm pretty sure it was the parrot who said this, not the market trader. If I'm wrong, obviously scratch that.)

Spoiler
Like Creamy, I thought it was a bug that I still had the sticky hose after attaching it to the bag - until I realised why I still needed it, of course. Perhaps the player should have to cut the hose with the scissors before making the bagpipes... or something?
[close]

Spoiler
After I'd got the horse to run away, when I talked to the guy in the stables he still told me to get my horse ready to run.
[close]

Spoiler
When I switched the blue mug for the red cup (the initial switch), the next sip the guy took was from a red cup, yet the red cup remained on the tool chest. By the following sip it had correctly disappeared. I assume this had to do with the precise point during his animation that I happened to make the switch. Anyway, it's obviously an incredibly minor, nitpicky detail.

Spoiler
As others have said, the game could've done with some explanation of how to access the menu. I only knew because I'd read this thread before playing.

All in all, you did a fantastic job. The puzzles, writing, art and animation were all great. I, too, look forward to a sequel! :-D

I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to finish my game and I'm not going to be able to this time around.

Good luck to everyone who's still in the contest. I look forward to playing all your games.

Hey The Outer Zone,

I just started playing The Goat Crone and was enjoying it, but the game crashed on me. Here's what I did to cause it, along with the error report that followed:

Spoiler
I had just escaped through the secret passage in the cliff face when I clicked on the bushes to try heading back.

The message said: "Error: prepare_script: error-18 (no such function in script). Trying to run hBushes_Interact (Room 4)."

Maybe you just never clicked the ellipsis in the property grid to link up with your code for interacting with the bushes?

I'll give full feedback once I've finished the game.

Nice one, Slasher and The Outer Zone. I look forward to playing your games soon.

I haven't been able to work on mine for the past week, annoyingly, but I'll have it ready before the month's up.

Congrats on your first AGS release  :)

It's a cute little game. The art is lovely.

I didn't experience any bugs or other issues, but here are a couple of ways in which I think you could've improved it slightly:

Spoiler
After the gondola guy has told the player what he's supposed to be doing, the dialog option should probably change from "But I really want to go!" to something like "What was it you needed again?"
[close]

Spoiler
I was able to stab the gondola guy before I knew why I was doing it. It might've been a good idea simply to have the bear say something like "Why would I do that?" until having spoken to the cop.

Anyway, those are minor points. I look forward to seeing more from you!

Here's one of my backgrounds - the school staff room.

I like that background, The Outer Zone. Good stuff  :)

I'm also on track. I might even have time to add a couple of extra puzzles to my game (which is currently very short). I may post my backgrounds later, when I'm home.

Hi everyone!

I haven't posted on these forums in several months (not that I was ever much of a regular here). Life got busy, but now I think I have it under control again, so I plan to start taking part in MAGS regularly, starting with this one :)

My initial idea (which remains subject to change) involves 'saving' the Nativity play at a primary school. The kid playing the donkey has called in sick, so you - the drama teacher - must play the part yourself, which means fashioning a makeshift donkey costume.

Anyway, I hope you're all doing well!

Congrats on the release! I've been looking forward to this for ages and can't wait to make a start this evening :-D

I hate bullfighting, but I LOVE the look of this!

A really delightful little game. I didn't come across any bugs. It seemed very polished to me. I've never played as an AI before either, so that was very cool. The voice acting was also strong.

All in all, the whole thing worked really well and was good fun. Great job! :)

Eek! Sorry, Darth.

It had been a long time since I'd last read the forum rules and I'd forgotten about the two screenshots rule. Clearly, I'm not ready to post here yet, but I also can't figure out how to delete this thread. Would you mind either telling me how to, or doing the honours yourself, please?

Thanks in advance. Sorry to be a nuisance! :-[

Hi everyone!

So, I recently finished making my first game, Harry and the Locked Crocs Shop Shock (thanks again to everyone who has played and commented so far!). Now, it's onto the next â€" Teething Troubles (working title).

For this game, I've enlisted the help of my IRL friend Swanny87. He's new to point and click adventures, but I think I'm turning him. Anyway, he'll be in control of all the art and animation, so expect to see him posting some concept stuff here shortly.

While he's been busying himself with that, I've been writing the story and puzzle structure, both of which I've now just about finalised.
So, without giving too much away, here's what it's all about…

The game takes place inside a person's mouth. All the characters, including the player character, are teeth.

Princess Sweet Tooth is in trouble. She's cracked. On ‘The Outside', the dentist has said that she will need pulling tomorrow â€" unless something can be done.

Enter you, the player tooth. Your job is to heal the princess, sparing her from this horrendous ordeal. Helping you on your journey will be the enlightened old sage (a wisdom tooth), the bouncer (a molar) who guards the path down to the perilous stomach, and the princess' goofy court jesters (a pair of bucked front teeth).

Swanny87 and I are already having bags of fun with this, so I hope the idea sounds entertaining to some of you, too. We've given ourselves eight weeks to make it a reality. The game will only be short, but with two of us working on it, we aim to make it much more polished (pun intended) than my first.

Thanks for reading. Watch this space! :-D

OK, I've now finished it. And all I can say is... it was BRILLIANT!

There's so much about this game that I could praise, from the innovative mix of art and gameplay styles to the great story and puzzle design. But I think the highest compliment I can give is that it managed to create a true world that I will miss being in and look forward to returning to one day - something I feel about all the greats of this genre.

On paper, the whole idea for this game is (forgive me) one that I should hate - a meta-y, fan-remake-type mess. But somehow it works so well. I'll be playing the previous games from this series imminently.

In case you can't tell, I'm seriously impressed. Well done. And thank you. I can't wait to see what you do next. :-D

Hey,

Sorry to be a party pooper, but I have another quick bug to report:

Spoiler
When I tried to give the tape recorder with the recording on it to Rusty Nailbender, my game crashed and I got the following message:

in "unhandled.asc", line 170
from "GlobalScript.asc", line 3589

Error: Error running function 'unhandled_event':
Error: Null pointer referenced

Loving this so far. Fantastic work. I'll give more feedback when I've completed it, but in the meantime I have a bug to report:

Spoiler
After I got the archeologist to leave, I tried again to pick up her book. The timer cursor appeared and just stayed and stayed, so I couldn't do anything.
[close]

Apologies if this has already been pointed out; I didn't want to read any spoiler comments!

Hey Durinde,

First off, congrats on completing your first game!

I had fun with it. There were some funny one-liners in there and the puzzles were good (although...

Spoiler
...the drawer one did seem a bit arbitrary!)
[close]

The main problem I encountered was that many of the possible actions didn't have responses. Even if it's something stupid, like 'talk to blanket', I like to get a response. Otherwise, it feels like maybe I just haven't clicked on the right pixel. When the action I'm trying is something logical, like 'pull light chain' (I believe I had to use 'pick up'), I'd say it's crucial.

Other than that, there were also quite a lot of typos, and for some reason I didn't get any music.

But all in all, it was a fun little game, and I look forward to seeing what you'll do next. Keep at it! ;)

Hey Shaun,

If you're still looking for playtesters, I'll be happy to dedicate some time to it over the next couple of days. Let me know.

Thanks :)

Does anyone happen to know how I can replace my existing file on MediaFire with an updated version while keeping the same download URL?

Thanks in advance!

Ignore me. I've sorted it, along with the problem you encountered, Shadow1000.

@Shadow1000:

Thanks for the kind words. Really pleased you liked it ;-D

QuoteI don't know if it's a glitch but I got stuck originally because
Spoiler
I went outside and he did not give me the paper. After being stuck for about half an hour, I loaded my game again and then went outside and that time he DID give me the newspaper. Either I missed something the first time or something is inconsistent
[close]

Hmmm. Thanks for pointing this out. I'll look into it. When it happened, had you already...

Spoiler
...escaped from the boss? Before that, you should be able to go in and outside without getting the paper. However, I fixed a bug to do with this (you could, at one point, get as many papers as you liked!) very late in the day, so it's quite possible I accidentally left another problem in its place.
[close]

QuoteSmall point: I think you mean "torturous" (relating to torture) rather than "tortuous" (twisting and turning)

Good catch! I'll fix it 8-)
