I found exactly that problem, can you remember what you did? I sent a PM to ddavey but never got a reply. There is definately a bug in here.

I hate to say this, but I've found a linear puzzle here in Becalmed and it's all about the hair oil. If this action is not completed by the time you get to 90%, the game cannot be finished. What a shame.

I may be able to help here, yes the demo does have an ending and there is a lot more gameplay to be had. What a splendid demo this is in my opinion. However it lacks something to direct the player in the right direction, be it a readme file or more appropriately NPC feedback, but I'll try to give direction in this forum - I hope I don't spoil anything.

The player's objective is to restore all parts of the resistance base (headquarters, extraction facility and scrapyard)
then use the extraction facility and scrapyard to manufacture raw materials. In the headquarters the cargo transfer system is used to move the raw materials to the Konstruktor 3 machine which can then turn them into Health boosters, stungun charges or EMP bombs, which you will use when you go back to Metro City.

When you have made sufficient stocks, or have used up all your time you can end the demo by asking Nancy to play her song. There's still a little more gameplay left, and a quite surprising plot twist. The next release will be very interesting indeed. Well done Rik_Vargard.

Thanks for the advice on this puzzle, I made it. I think I may have not been clicking far enough into the hotspot.

Hi everyone,

I'm really enjoying this demo, but I've hit a brick wall in the extraction facility. After gaining access to the side door there's a panel with 3 switches that appear to control a security door. You can get the door to function, but it won't stay open long enough to use. I can't use any inventory items on the switches or door and basically I'm stuck. What have I missed? Thanks in advance.

Voted. Thanks to all for the entertainment.

If you're wondering what was burning on our plane:

Spoiler
It was the wiring, a very rare occurence evidenced by high generator loads (100% on both) and a dreadful electrical burning smell. If one of the generators had exceeded its load limit and dropped off line we would have lost all electrics, therefore all flight instruments. Naturally the weather on that day was horrible with widespread rain and cloud down to 100 metres so with no flight instruments we would have spudded into the ground or water. When I declared our emergency to Air Traffic Control I requested a "Radar marshall to cloud break" (i.e. send me where it's clear) which is a military term with which not all civilian controllers are familiar. As it happened, a departing aircraft on the same radio frequency was flown by an ex-military pilot who heard this and transmitted "Send him to Deception Bay - it's clear over that way." The controller put us on a south-easterly heading and we continued our emergency descent and sure enough there was a break in the cloud and no rain. Lo and Behold the Deception Bay area, visible in the distance the threshold of Brisbane runway 14 and no finer sight have I ever beheld.

Unfortunately this "very rare occurence" happened again on 2nd September 1998 off Halifax Nova Scotia to Swissair flight 111 an MD-11 New York to Geneva with 229 passengers and crew. They hit the water at 300 knots and were all killed instantly, the accident report stated the cause was "electrical and instrument failure due to fire".

There but for the Grace of God, and a few fortunate coincidences, go I...

I think (from memory) a previous save might be the way to go.Don't go to the house without the BOOM device. :-D

I haven't done one of these for a while, so here goes.

Take me down
Safe and sound
The ground beneath your feet.

The fire services leave, the engineers are here to tow the aircraft to the bay, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) offer my First Officer and I a lift to the terminal, conditions apply, being a formal interview. It beats walking about 4 km. Passengers are long gone thanks to our only casual Flight Attendant, Julie, who commandeered some airport vehicles before heading off to her day job at a major retail store.

Have you ever wondered "How can things go so wrong so quickly?"
      I have.
You wake up on a beautiful morning, make the perfect coffee and a delicious breakfast, and at the end of the day you find yourself in a Vietnamese prison with a naked chinese guy licking your feet. Life is like that sometimes.

Interviews, paperwork, and even more paperwork. What is an "Air Safety Incident Report" anyway, and who gives a flying rat's arse? It must be time to go home now, it's approaching 10 o'clock. Call into operations on the way out, and our ops controller, Rose, is crying her eyes out. She took the call from Air Traffic Control who told her of our issues and had added "You might lose this one." Not on my watch... still a big hug can mend a lot of grief.

Out past the check-in gates and I see Julie dressed in mufti, eyes very moist. More hug therapy and a reassurance that she did great in the evacuation. Time to go home.

The journey takes me past "Dooley's", an Irish pub in Fortitude Valley. Mmm...Guiness! How many pints are there in a gallon anyway? Eight I seem to recall, but Australia is on the metric system now, so it might be ten. It's only five minutes walk to get there although the stagger home could take an hour or two... Never let fear hold you back!

Eventually home is reached and the Guiness has turned my brain to chalk, which is absorbing the import of what we went through today. I call my F/O and apologise for having consumed a Black Lake* of Guiness and he apologised for having consumed a bottle  of the "lunatic soup" rum distilled in Bundaberg, our point of origin that day. [Note: this is a truism: Consume a bottle of said rum on a full moon, and you will find youself in the aforementioned Vietnamese prison with the Chinese guy. It's written on the bottle in very fine print.]

"Do you realise how close we came today?" I enquired.
"Why do you think I've had the Bundy?" was the reply.

The aircraft was returned to flight, but caught fire twice afterwards, the airline folded and the aircraft is now a dive site on the Barrier Reef. Julie got divorced and followed me to Cairns, developed cancer in 2007 and died in 2010. I think about her every day.

And in the end
The love you take
Is equal to the love you make.

This true story happened on 17th February 1995 from my logbook.

*A Dubh Linn which could be a good name for a Capital City.

G'day Captain D!

Mate, you need an item you haven't picked up yet. You might have to retrace your steps and find something that goes BOOM. If you need further hints just post again, but a bit of trading can get you a long way. Cheers!

Thanks for the help Syos Spaniel, I could not have worked out that locker code in a month of Sundays! I have finished the game in both modes. Thanks for the game, well done.

Thanks to all for the insight. Man, these puzzles are intricate! I am sooo looking forward to finishing this game while I still have some hair left. Cheers!

EDIT: I've made it through the maze with the batteries, now it's asking for two, two-digit codes at four input points. I realise I never even found the locker codes hidden in the newspaper, had to brute force it. So, first of all, what is the locker code and how was I meant to deduce it, and, the only numbers I've seen are  on the house sign and I can't find any more. Just once I'd like to find a clue before I find a puzzle...

I'm stuck in a couple of places in difficult mode. I'm trying to lure the poachers to the camera. I have made the fake fox tail, but the game tells me it isn't "convincing enough".
Spoiler
I used the adhesive on the twig, added the fall leaves and white paint from the teacup full of adhesive dipped in the pond.

I have found the hidden house and descended to the maze, read the poem, but I'm clueless. Moving the stones seems to have no effect and all the food items are inedible. As all the rooms are colour coded, does this relate to the previous colour puzzles and the colour wheel giving a clue as to which order the rooms should be visited? I have

exchanged the rusty knife for the pick

, but I have no idea where or when or who uses it. Please help.

Hi Heltonjon!

To answer your question, you will need the slingshot. You can get this by
Spoiler
using your teeth. I take it that you have obtained the cup from the locked box and used it with water to clean the mirror, thus giving you teeth and tail in inventory.
[close]
You also have to spell out the word "yes" using inventory items
Spoiler
using slingshot, comb and shoelace.

Good luck with the rest of the game - I have not finished yet. Cheers!

Hi Panpil,

You need to get rid of the worker first. Have you spoken to him yet? Have you read the newspaper? (You can right click in inventory to do that.)
Spoiler
Using the newspaper on the worker lets you access his toolbox, where you will obtain a tool to use on the valve.

The rest I'll leave up to you.

Cheers!.

Hi Heltonjon!

I was able to get 23 points and finish the demo. It's hard to describe what you may have missed, so I'll have to walk you through what I did, which is a complete spoiler. So here goes...

Spoiler
First a "look" command gives you a list of all who are present: Coroner Nobles, officers Chester (the photographer), Woodbury and Allen; an older man and a young man. Talk to all of them until the conversation is exhausted. Use keys on trunk and retrieve homicide kit. Look at body, look at cigarette. Use chalk on body and cigarette. Use notebook on graffiti. Open dumpster, talk to Nobles.Talk to Chester and she will take photos of body and cigarette, dumpster and graffiti.

End of demo. (thankfully - I hate text parsers!)

Cheers!

Hints & Tips / Re: SLEUTH

Hi mate,

The short answers are: you can only avoid being killed if you can avoid the "ghost" by traveling through rooms with 2 exits all the way to the Commissioner where constable McLachlan will make the arrest.

There is no "save game" option because it is so short, and there is no way at all to extend the searching time. Just play it again.

I love this game and play it every day when I start up the computer. It is an enigma in that it is a genuinely re-playable adventure game. The voice acting is amazing seeing as how it came from AGSers, so I'll give you some tips here;

You need to solve all 3 mysteries to succeed. The less "moves" you make is good. A "move" is when you leave or enter a room, and 25 or less will get you a rank of "Holmesian", 34 is "Master" 42 is "professional", 44 is "Rookie" and if you miss any items or take more moves - "Sloppy".

First priority is to find the magnifying glass. My guess is that it appears not in a random location, unlike the weapon or the treasure, but after a random number of moves, so you can pick it up relatively quickly.

The weapon can be found when you hover the cursor over any blunt object and red spots appear on it. Click here and you're almost home. The treasure may be anywhere, but if you click on all the items in a room you will find it. Note: clicking within a room is not a "move", so investigate fully.

The murderer can be found only by checking alibis. You can be "Holmesian" lucky by finding the first suspect alibis the second who disagrees, or you have to check each one. Some suspects are found only in one location which is a shame. For example, if Les Cook is not at the BBQ or Ian Soot is not in his room, you will never find them.

I love  also the comedy and comedic references such as the "Spear and Jackson number 3 shovel". Michael Palin would be proud, and maybe put it next to the other one.

You meddling kids!!!

Cheers.

There's something out on the balcony that can help you get the bookcase open. You might need to borrow something from Violette though.
