Congratulations  @Repi for winning! it was well deserved!

Also that was a lot of good feedback. I'm glad most people like the foundations cuz that was mostly what there was of the game as mid month job blew up in a way that i didn't want to touch a line of code until today. At least I managed to hack the demo and im glad i did.

About the Reviews and my voting

The Year of Mags

Spoiler
For me the game had the same problem that my demo had, it is a nice foundation but it lacked some random events or something to make it more interesting besides just grinding skills.

I loved the concept in a self referencing way of the hell of balancing doing everything with job and family on the side.

The thing that did bother me is the UI, i feel like every part of the game has the same visual importance so it would be hard for me to notice what parts of the game i should be looking at

The Twilight Zone - The Lost Episode
Spoiler
It nails the vibe it is striving for, looks good, its kinda short and easy but also feels like the best package out of all of the games posted. It has some bugs but nothing too mayor

I have something planned out so i will most likely start to make the actual game the last week of the month

Very exited for this! looks amazing

I did it! It's a demo showcasing all the systems in the game but you can actually play it and win it.

The Story

The Expedition

Filled with debt you are desperate to find ways to earn money. One day one opportunity rises. A benefactor is willing to pay all your debts and add some cash on top of that if you manage to retrieve something from the depths of the islands excavations.

He sends you off with a letter describing what you need to get and some money for supplies.

No boat wants to get near to the island for some reason so you borrow a row-boat and ask for someone to get you as near as possible.

Once inside the island you follow the smoke to find the town. Maybe here you can find directions about the item you must retrieve.

I had a ton of fun making this and will post a full version after the voting is over.

ITCH PAGE LINK

Since there's no tutorial a lil guide of how to play this:

Spoiler

To get the map you need to
1- Read the letter by double clicking on it, it will give you the crystal and excavation topic
2- click on the left part of the main frame to go to the supply shop
3- after talking to sally ask her about the crystal and about the excavation, then click on any of the shop items that is not the chest. Finally talk to her about your pistol and she will buy it from you and promise you a map if you get a crew.
4- leave the shop by clicking on the lower part of the frame
5- click on the right part of the main frame to go to the bar
6- Henry will welcome you, ask him about hiring companions and hire Alan
7- go back to the supply shop and get the map
8- get out of the shop and click on the gate

DEMO MISSION Kill a watcher

4- the watcher is kinda tough. good luck

Ill be uploading an early version of the game in a couple hours, you can finish it but its not the completed game since it lacks a lot of content but all the programming is there.

ah, its also gonna be buggy i didnt playtest this at all

I finally have something tangible to show in here with 90% of the code done but I still don't know if i will be able to make all the graphics and sound by the end of the month.

The game is a proof of concept of a half adventure game half dungeon crawler. I've been having a blast making it.

Oh wow honestly i didnt think i was gonna get many votes since i kinda failed at the whole cohesive gameplay part. I'm really happy!

This was a very personal game as in I put a lot of experiences from friends and mine into it. It was hard to make but i wanted to participate either way.

About the feedback on the clothing and mood part
Spoiler
The main mechanic of the game is the mood of the character, it was supposed to affect more stuff like you waiting your partner with a cake or some kind of celebration if your mood was high enough in the end, but job blew up and a nation wide outage ate away most of my free time.

So the closet. It does influence what happens when you go out but you can still get a neutral outcome, its random. These were subtle on purpose as I didn't want to gamify the closet too much. I wanted it to be a way of expression because, for example, if you get a bad event because you are wearing fem clothes but you get only good ones for wearing masc clothes would send a weird message

edit: Im sure there are better ways to convey this stuff without my lack of experience

And since i didnt do a review of mandle game

Spoiler
I actually wanted more of it. I dig the idea of edutainment for adults. Particularly on uncomfortable topics. I liked what there was of it and i would like to see a game build around the idea

Quote from: Repi on Thu 03/04/2025 04:38:49I've had this problem since yesterday, and it still doesn't work.

@soulstuff did you manage to enter your game?

Yes I did but i noticed when I put add game after I filled all the fields it took me to a blank page, so i browsed all the games to check if it was added and it was but with no images.
Then I edited that entry on the page (action button -> edit game) and added the images again and then it worked.

Congrats on the release!

For the screenshot part you need to use the i.imgur.com/[IMAGECODE].png or whatever extension to make it work. In your case it's

I've been trying to add a game to the database since yesterday but everytime I click on the "Add a new game" link on the main page under my username It just takes me to a blank screen.

I don't know if someone else has the same problem or if it's just me.
#11
Well ive been trying to add the game to the database for like half an hour now so for now i will post the itch link until i can put a database entry in.

WEAVING TIME

Your partner is on a work trip for 5 days. Suddenly you feel as you have more time to do things and at the same time you feel as the wait gets longer and longer.

I think im gonna be able to upload before midnight (my time zone midnight) or around it. Just need to playtest a couple things and make sure theres no game breaking bug when i get home from work.
#13
I think i shoot myself in the foot thinking that making a game in only one room should be fast. At least all of the gameplay part is done and I just need to finish the art, music and writing. I think im gonna make it through before the deadline but there might be some placeholder art in there hehe.

Anyway here is some screenshots of what i got

Fingers cross I can finish it in time!

Oh wow I won!
Thank you all for playing the game. I cut so many corners in it trying to learn the engine. I hope this is the 1st of many MAGS since it was MAGS games that actually got me the push to start making games!  :-[

BURN DOWN THE CLOSET: A GAME ABOUT BEING AGENDER

Help a frustrated agender person create an outfit that even society itself cannot impose a gender on... if you dare! Fumble your way to 5 different endings!

Review
Spoiler
I have never felt so seen as with some of the takes on clothing in the game, particularly the one about the unisex shoes being immune to gendering and wishing you could be as well almost got me teary. Maybe because I'm the target audience.

This is a great game. I hope to finish mine next week but I'm gonna be thinking of this one for a while

Congrats on the release!

Finally got time to play both characters. I had a ton of fun playing the game. Really good voice acting and visuals

Limblob by Soulstuff:
Spoiler
This is your first game, right? I think you have done a good job. I liked the different walking/bouncing animations, and the blob population reminded me of Shape Village, which is not a bad thing in my book. There's a clear objective in the game, and fair (if easy) puzzles to get there. Well done. Next time, try to add sound or music as well.

Finding Balzac by Pell:
Spoiler
Short visual novel, four endings, placeholder sketches (which work fine, actually) and a clumsy/evil doc inspired by yours truly.  :-D  I'm honored! This was the funniest entry and had me laughing several times. Downside - unfinished and probably shorter than it was planned to be.

MAGSMan by Kara Jo Kalinowski:
Spoiler
I wish I had not read your idea before playing! Anyway, Hangman is a classic, and the quite large word list makes the game replayable as a casual game. Downside - no other extras like sound makes the game bare-bones. It's not an original idea, of course, which may count for something in a MAGS vote, even if it may live on my hard drive for a while.

Mall Quest (Unfinished) by Babar and jfrisby:
Spoiler
Ooohhh, I am getting Commodore 64 vibes again, partly because of the soundtrack, no doubt. I hope you finish this later on. I like the scenarios where the player runs around from npc to npc, fixing their problems and getting other items in return. (Reminding me of the bazaar in Sierra's Conquests of Camelot.) I found the ending, but I don't think a finished game will be spoiled.

Yep very first one. I got inspired by recent mags to start finally and make something. My background is in codig so music was the first thing i cut when the deadline was near since my objective was to finish something for starters  :-D .
Thanks for playing and the kind words!

Quote from: pell on Tue 04/03/2025 06:29:45Here's mine. It still has placeholder art, but it's playable. There are multiple endings, depending upon your choices during the game.

Nice! I really had a laugh with all the endings.
