This is looking really good! :)

Any idea when we might be seeing a demo and/or the complete game?  I can't wait to play! :)

On the good advice front... don't be afraid to apply for jobs which ask for experience you don't have.

They're asking because they want people who are competant, if you can demonstrate that you're skilled even without the experience they're still going to be interested.  This of course requires a well written CV so your skills are obvious.  Also, whilst you may not ideally suit the job they're advertising due to lack of experience, they may have something else suitable.

When you put the cross in the niche the gate actually opened!Ã,  It's just extremely unobvious and confused me too!Ã,  Just click further to the left and he'll magically walk through the gate even though it still looks closed!

Jacquie - you need to go talk to the Abbot and then Father Eldo before the character thinks he needs tranquiliser which is why you can't pick it up yet :)

Joyce - He said something earlier about wanting to compare the picture he took with the actual room.  He's probably got an old cheap digital camera without a nice display on it, so you'll need to print out the picture.

I wouldn't have thought so... you should be fine carrying it around :)  If he starts refusing to do things then go put it back, but I wouldn't have thought it would cause a problem.  The game doesn't seem to let you pick things up early.

Right... now to get some sleep :)

Joyce, did you get something from Father Eldo?Ã,  Something that may contain a clue? :)
You need to find out what that note says and then go talk to the Abbot again :)

If you can't work out how to read the note:
Spoiler

It's got heat sensitive ink on it

and if you're still stuck:
Spoiler

Hold it by the torch in the room with three furrows

Well, I thought I'd add a note of happiness to this thread.

I live with my two best friends in the UK.Ã,  We graduated with Computer Science degrees in July 2003.

By September Mike had himself a job in a school working as the IT technician (not programming, but he's always been into the hardware).Ã,  Not hugely high paying cos it's in a school, but it's getting him the experience he needs to move into a larger company :)

By January Nikki also had a job.Ã,  She's doing web programming for a company not far from here, and is being paid a good graduate salary with a pay rise due again in a month or so :)

And me?Ã,  Well, I've been working for my parent's business, which may sound weird, but it involves a good mixture of web design & programming, bespoke applications for foolish clients (people who find copying files from one directory to another too much of a challenge and need big buttons to click instead!) and also a lot of Office customisation.

In fact, all of the people I know who've graduated recently with Computer Science degrees have found jobs related to their degree which they are happy doing :)

Unlike my sister and her partner who last year graduated with Psychology degrees and have failed to find anything they want to do and are now stuck living with our parents!Ã,  :-\

So, it's not all doom and gloom :)Ã,  Don't give up hope just yet!

JClarke:
Spoiler

I was having exactly the same problem.Ã,  Before he'll look in the book properly you have to get the image from the camera onto the computer and then magnify the little splodge of blood to the bottom right of the big splodge.

Once you've done that and looked at it you need to examine the book again and he'll have a better look!

Joyce:

By reading Marie's earlier hint you're getting a little ahead of yourself!Ã,  The first tranquiliser is for Farther Eldo (I think that was his name!) - the mad guy wandering around a pillar at the top room

I agree, choose an easier game next time Marie! ;)

Hmmm, think I may have found a bug, and I'm also stuck:

Spoiler

Trying to get rid of that annoying boy who's following me... I went back to the cage and he seems to go into the rest house. Ã, I made the cover come down and tried to walk out (hoping the boy wouldn't see me to follow) but the monkey just stops walking part way round the cage, cursor changes to the timer one, and nothing happens. Ã, I've tried this twice and the same thing occurs.

Of course, this means I've no idea how to get rid of that little kid! Ã, Anyone managed it yet?

Joyce - reloading a save game, you have to click Play afterwards on the top left menu.  Confused me too!  I restarted the game the first two times!!

When you're using the computer, after uploading the picture from the camera and zooming in, press the acquire button again and choose the book as the image source.  This will load the image from the book onto the computer (he must have a scanner hidden somewhere or something!)

Thank you Marie :)  I can't believe how close I was to the end!  But woo!  Finished now :)  Thank you for all your help :)

I wonder when the next part will be ready!

I think he looks a lot better like that!  Except his hat and shoes are now pink.  I don't think a little boy would approve of pink... I'd suggest getting those back to the nice red colour you had on your second pic :)

And now this is why I dislike games where the hotspots aren't obvious... The place where you have to click to go home on the map isn't where you'd expect!Ã,  It's in the grey splodge, kinda up and left a bit from the letter H.Ã,  Just keep clicking lots and you'll find it eventually! :)

For Joyce:
Spoiler

For the book on Satanism you need to check out the guy's bookcase at home.Ã,  For the most part he says "It's just a bookcase" but there's one section which is his bit on Satanism where you'll find the book you need.
The game is *very* linear, so until you've got the book and done stuff with the photo on the computer you're not going to be able to pick up the tranquiliser.Ã,  One thing I might add for when you get there... have you found your character's bedroom and bathroom?Ã,  Took me a while to wander in the right place to magically find myself in new rooms!

From Me to Marie:
Spoiler

Oh how i was hoping you wouldn't say credit card!Ã,  I knew when he mentioned it wasn't in his wallet I was going to need it! Any chance of a clue as to where the fool has left it?!
And I was trying google before I asked for help, just didn't think to type in the name of the travel agent... the word didn't look English so my brain didn't register it as important!

What would we do without you Marie.?

Which is particularly ironic since it's because she asked for help that we both ended up playing this in the first place! :)

Ah well, I'm sure all three of us will complete it eventually :)

:)  Thank you!  I missed one little step in all that and now I've progressed, woo! :)  I'm not all that good with games which don't give you a clue where hotspots are, I tend to miss things!

Inevitably, I'm stuck again  :-[

Spoiler
So a lot of stuff happened, and now I'm supposed to be going to Lyon... but the travel agent's phone is busy... so I guess I'm actually supposed to be doing something else first but once again, I've no idea what!  Any idea?

Okay... I'm suddenly beginning to wonder what I'm doing wrong, cos that's exactly what I was trying to do.

Spoiler
When he reads the book he says "I don't see anything like the drawing on the cell door"... Using the computer I can get the image off the camera to load but when I do the same thing with the book nothing happens :(

I downloaded the game to try and help you out and I seem to be asking you so many questions! :)Ã,  he he :)Ã,  Still, it's keeping me entertained for today :)

I have to admit I haven't looked at your code, but if you check out this thread: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=18915.0 then I made some functions yesterday which convert the current score into a roman numeral.
