Completed Game Announcements / Re: Flight

Nice atmospheric game. I played it in one binge session of probably less than an hour. I enjoyed it very much. The action sequences didn't involve much more than just click spamming whenever anything evil came on my path. But since I'm not a fan of action sequences in pount and click adventures, I was glad that these were easy. Nice Lovecraftian short-story vibes there.

I finished it and really liked what I played and saw! I wrote a review about it here on AGS.

Many thanks for making this fun remake!

I did encounter a few minor issues which you might want to straighten out in a later version:

-The disco dancing scene animation doesn't play out as it should when the gamespeed is set to fastest. It seems to hang mid animation. Larry is making his throwing stance while Fawn is still dancing a bit. But the animation never finishes.
-When I used my wallet on Fawn in the disco to 'loan' her the 100 for the suite it didn't deduct anything from my wallet balance.
-The slot machine sometimes doesn't seem to pay out when it should. Or at least a Cherry, Non Cherry, Cherry should pay out as one Cherry (I believe) but it doesn't. I also remember getting a seven, seven, something else (don't remember what) and not getting a win.
-The blackjack table is not available. Or at least I wasn't able to access it. But I guess this is intentional?
-The disco is accessible at daytime. Everyone is inside and I got a text about a meat market or something and was sent back outside. It seemed odd. Why not just close it down during the day?

Looks promising. Larry in EGA is so much better than all of his other (VGA and later) incarnations. So I never really liked the other LSL1 remakes. As a fan of the old AGI games, I am definitely going to play this version! I'll let you know what I think as soon as I finish it. Congrats on the release.

Looks great. Wow!

Quote from: Rik_Vargard on Sun 01/06/2025 19:39:06I'm wondering how you do the whole "new fashion" thing? Are the clothes "objects following the character"  or... I can't imagine having sprites for every combination  8-0

And now I really want to know this too.  :-D

Quote from: LimpingFish on Sat 24/05/2025 00:57:37I would create an automated action (run filter x, run blur, run filter y, etc), and simply apply the action to my photos, one by one.

And that is the gist really. That is what you would do. For you it wouldn´t save time and give a sub par result. But since I´m presently not proficient enough with drawing software and I´m already investing a lot of learning time in learning to code in AGS and learning to create sprites and animations. The fact that I can make backgrounds relatively quickly to practise these new skills on is pretty great.

That said, I'm really enjoying creating my own characters and animations in Asesprite. So I can see myself taking that joy and knowlegde further into my backgrounds (with other drawing packs). I don't rule out the possibility that I will eventually redo all the backgrounds.

I'm really just a noob starting out. And the usage of AI for me is a huge kickstarter.

Quote from: Danvzare on Wed 23/04/2025 13:39:05If you're going for a SCI0/SCI1 style, does that mean you're planning on using a text parser?

I would actually prefer to use the text parser. Since my memories of those games are the warmest. But since this is my first experience in coding games in general. I find creating a point and click interface is already more than enough of a challenge. I can imagine it gets more complicated when having to process text commands.

No problem. Here are three of my early screens with some of my sprites on it.

Note that I 'stole' the car in the first picture from police quest 2. That one is a placeholder. I will replace that one later with my own art. So I hope Sonny Bonds won't arrest me for sharing it here.

The second screen is intentionally darker because they are deeper in the forest.

The thrird screen still needs some rework. I already have a night time version that looks better.

I have had most succes using the edit image function of Grok AI. It allows you to upload your own images and work on them. I then 'downgraded' the pictures to 320x200 using Asesprite so they would fit into my AGSeditor template.

These are all forest screens. The second act is in a city environment. I've had succes generating outdoor locations. But they are too early to share here. Indoor locations are the biggest challenge because of the necessary scale.

Nice debate. I was wondering how the overall stance on generative AI was in this community so it is nice to read about it here.

For me generative AI allows me to bring the story I want to tell alive within a timeframe that is acceptable within the time available for a full time working father and husband.

I'm really just one guy working on a game with an idea. I draw my own sprites and animations. I write my own narrative and code. So that part is genuinely my own art. Not Generic mediocrity.

Yet, presently I mostly use generative AI to help me build my backgrounds. Not just by writing a clever prompt. But mostly by using a photograph I made and ask the AI to create a background based on it in a certain pixel art style. And then use that as a basis to further edit it into something that fits in my game. Or I ask generative AI to make a nighttime version of a daytime background. So far I've managed to get a consistent enough style. And enough of myself in it to not make it feel as 'soulless' as Generative AI art often feels. Again: not Generic mediocrity.

That said, I don't expect to win profits or prizes with my game. I work on it mostly because I really like to do it. And to tell my (self written!) story in an exiting way. If other people can someday enjoy it, that would be great. But if people lay it aside because they don't agree with the usage of gen AI that is also fine.

Edit: made a small addition/clarification

Thank you all. I downloaded the SCI fonts. I was also able to get a font in the game that I like!

Thanks for all the suggestions! I was on a camping trip the past days and was not able to respond sooner.

I think it is important to mention that I'm using the 320x200 sierra template. So I believe that means I'm limited to fonts that are maximum 10 to 15 pixels in height? This means that most regular fonts will not work or be unreadable. It is why I would really like to have those SCI fonts mentioned on the AGS website.

And let me reverse that question. Can you provide me the link to a font that should work in a 320x200 sierra template? And maybe also some help on how to filter or find these fonts (other than trying over and over) if possible. It would be a great help.

Edit: I'm mostly concerned about the GUI fonts atm.

Thanks´s. I must be a real noob because I cannot get it to work. The fonts from dafonts come in different formats but AGS only let´s me import pretty specific ones. And the ones I want are not in it...

Installing a font doesn´t really seem to do anything in AGS.

The ones that are in ttf format can be imported but they are all crooked or the letters are only partly shown.

To make it worse I don´t know how to revert back to the default font.

Hello everyone,

I´m currently experimenting and working on my first AGS game. But as I try to navigate the site and the wiki I find that parts of it are regularly down. Which is not always helpful to find the information I´m looking for.

One particular thing is fonts. The site mentions a selection of them being available for download: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/create/sci/

But when I press the link supplied on this page I get a 404 error.

Can anyone help me get the fonts on this page. It is Font 001 I'm particularly interested in.

Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to download fonts but the site leads me to a dead download link: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/scifonts.zip

Hello everyone! Zwiffer here. Been a lifelong fan of Classic adventures.

Primarily Sierra and LucasArts style. I'm currently working on an AGS game based on a story I've been writing for a while. I'm going with a style based on the SCI0/SCI1 era of Sierra Games.

I'm hoping to learn from you and get inspired by your work.
