I'm the same as Squinky.  (it took me this long to come back to see if you responded, lol.)

I've never used that program.   In Reason you can vary up every note and make the slightest changes, pressure etc so that each beat feels a little unique and less synthy.

I think I voted.   Amazed it didn't need me to login.

Hells yeah that's a beautiful design, the big question is... why not set up a shop and sell your own designs??

I'm going to support what anian said, but I'm going to rephrase it.

This could be a really great gem.  But yes the percussion is slightly distracting.   I think if it were slightly more organic feeling, it would make all the difference in the world.   It feels a bit mechanical, a bit too symmetric, and pronounced as previously stated.

I'm not going to make suggestions how to change it, just go for organic.  Go for loose.  The tone of the melody and the atmosphere were otherwise perfect.

Thanks for the input guys.   Too tired to respond at the moment.  I probably will go ahead with plans for flash.

General Discussion / Making an Autoplay CD-ROM
Wed 20/10/2010 10:34:54
My sister's friend is a widow and her recently deceased husband was a musician. She's a little frazzled understandably, and at first my sister and I thought she was asking me to make her a website. So of course I said I would because I'm versed in wordpress, CSS, some php etc. But what she described in person ended up being something like a CD-Rom press kit.

I can easily design a press kit for her but it's slightly unfamiliar territory and I want to get off on the right foot. ( I don't want to start designing in flash and then realize there's *another* perfect program for this project).

Description:

Person puts CD into computer, a splash screen pops up.
There's a logo and below that is the musician's bio (all this will be one image layout)
20 buttons which play songs when clicked. She envisioned the buttons down the sides, 10 each.
I'd prefer the page include a tiny embedded music controller for fast forwarding

Notes:

Compatible with PC and Mac a must. I'm familiar with autoplay scripting on PC but not Mac. This program can be very basic, this isn't too ambitious as there aren't sub menus or pages. Just one splash screen with 20 songs you can play.  She also wants the songs to play in a CD player if possible.

Any suggestions?  Freeware programs?   ( I know people redirect to their websites these days, but this is what she wants...)

How useless is this thread? Just a list and no-one commenting anything or even reading stuff :P

I tend to agree.  When someone can't keep their recommendations down to a manageable size, it just becomes like an annoying myspace or facebook page nobody will ever read.   This thread carries no real weight.    Just names, names, names.

Not to mention that reasons aren't given for watching the films.   Ack.

Whenever people ask me for a good movie recommendation, I don't know what to say.   I could list 100 movies I love.  I could list 15 favorite directors.   But sometimes I just like to endorse Ravenous

Also, watch ALL of Jack Lemmon's movies.  Start with "The Apartment".  Jack Lemmon is perhaps the best "every man" that there ever was.  You really feel for him in this movie.

Wait for the hacker to get inside your computer, then remove the ethernet cable to trap him!

Hahahaha, ah man.  I really want to have a character in a movie who uses this strategy if that's OK.

Jim Reed's perspective drawing = spot on.   Exactly what I was going to say.   As is, the peninsula looks like a floating rock.

Real good stuff Chicky!   It's highly stylized and develops tone instantly.    If you ever need advice on anything production related these guys can *always* help:

It's pretty incredible that all the policies come from the top from the guy's with the biggest paychecks.   And the people who are in the trenches getting the lowest paycheck have to take the heat for it.

The service industry sucks.   I once worked at Auntie Anne's and was instructed to never give the customer more than 2 napkins, and never give them a cup for water.   "These pretzels are making me thirsty!"

M.A.S.K. was badass.    It was like Transformers meets GI Joe.

Those were the days of the good GI Joe action figures too.  The ones with reliable metal joints.

The best playsets I remember:   Ewok village, Ninja Turtle Sewer/ Tetradome, Gi Joe Rolling Thunder / Cobra Terrordrome / Aircraft carrier / Shuttle,  Wayne Manor / Batcave  (there's been tons of them now)

of the ones I owned, I had the most adventures with this:

Somehow I never got to play with this:    :(

Looks like it could engage your imagination, but honestly it looks a little boring.  Did anybody else have that one friend with a GI Joe room?   But he never let you play with them without overseeing your every move?   In fact he would realize the toy you pick up is the one he wants to play with most?  EVERY TIME?

General Discussion / Re: "The Oregon Trail"

What's the difference?   Trailers for retro games are funny on their own merit.   Before college humor made the minesweeper trailer in 2009, Zoltarkill made this in 2006:

According to Increator's logic, minesweeper & oregon trail aren't funny because Zoltarkill's Pacman claimed all the funny 4 years ago.

Was Oregon Trail popular outside the US?   This was the ONE game I could play in class.   For whatever reason this educational game ended up on school computers across the states.
