Critics' Lounge / Re: Moon Background C&C

Yes I did try and put some texture in but as soon as I got to my second pic... Ultimate Paint fouled up. It wouldn't let me do anything so I restarted it and it still wouldn't go so I just posted that.
As for the sky... I was trying to decide whether to put in the sun, the earth, or just the stars. I will try and re-do the first back again . Also I thought the stars looked realistic as in real life they are just white dots in the sky.

Ozwalled I was referring to you and I am amazed that it was made in PSP.
I have PSP and Ultimate paint and yet I don't think I get the knack of things quite yet. I tried re-making my original but it didn't work out.
Haddas, those stars are truly amazing...... but they look too corny. I'm looking for a more realistic style. I got the white, blue, red stars (see original) off Space Quest 2. Earlier I tried re-making it but I was useless so I'm on the sidelines until I get the hang of it. That is why I am making this game for both practise on art, try and pick up a few skills and tricks and also so I can post the game which as I said earlier will be my first game. I tried a close-up of a crater which I may use as a background (with the character walking down it and up the other side).

What program did you use to make that picture.
I'm just guessing it's Photoshop as it's so good.

Thx everyone,
I was a bit lazy with the craters and Ozwalled that pic looks great.
I am using UP (Ultimate Paint) and will try to redo the back.

Critics' Lounge / Moon Background C&C

This is a background that I have made which if you haven't already realised is of the Moon. I plan to use this in my new, upcoming (not to mention first) AGS game which is set on the Moon. Anyway if you can give me some C&C on this it would be greatly appreciated.

2 frames, not bad.

I can't make backgrounds as good as you can because I don't have Photoshop and am quite inexperienced so all your backgrounds seem really good to me. I have to admit, that background is really good but the only thing I don't agree with is the blurred 'airlock' thing. You all seem to have really good ideas though.

Aha!!!
Now I caught you with a SQ background asking for improvements. Just joking. I am making a SQ2 remake and I can't draw so JWar redid the first playable background in SQ2 EGA to try and show me how to do them. But I still can't. :'( Anyway...sorry the second background looks good except for the blood which doesn't suit the background and the lighting perspective from the lamp which it kind of in the wrong place.

QuoteJust thought I'd have a go, after reading the how-to in this thread... whaddayathank?
That's good....very good. What do you mean by the 'how-to' part of this thread.

Are there any specific improvements you think need doing?
#14
I DON"T KNOW WHY YOU HAVE TO BE SO TECHNICAL. (Even though I am :))
But thanks for all your advice. I will try to improve some more.

I'm looking for a good easy VGA tutorial. Can anyone help?

Thanks googlebox. I'll try that. Do you know where I can download JrGimp from?

Oh. :-[Thats kind of what I meant.
EDIT: Oh I give up!! I can't even get a decent picture out of the long time I put in. Unless I can get a more amateur tutorial.... I think I'm stumped. BTW I'm using ArtGem v.1.2
