I just downloaded this game from the official site and the installer is corrupt.

It gives me a warning saying "agsCreditz2.dll" contains invalid data and does NOT extract the game.

The installer file version is apparently 2.0.0.24 and I believe it was released on July 20, 06 (today)

I like the blue stainless windows, I think they should cause some blue illumination too

Well, I got an iPod a week ago for my birthday but I can't really use it yet because I need to get ALL my songs tagged.

I have tried 3 or 4 different freeware programs (including itunes) for doing en-mass filename->id3v1 tag, but so far none of them are reliable enough to actually be helpful

Anyone know one of these programs that is reliable enough that you can actually select a whole folder and have it covnert without crashing?

I wasn't even sure what that white stuff was supposed to be  :P

Andail,

clearly the shadow technique described is not meant to assign binary values of "shadow" or "not-in-shadow" but merely to roughly find the positions that shadows from primary rays would lie...

then yeah, you'd have to use logic to determine how dark and how blurry to make them, how they would interact with other lightsources, etc

the fact is that light bounces around many times for every surface that it hits, and even though it bounces at reflection angles there are enough roughness in surfaces that the particular angle a photon bounces does not always coincide with the wall-plane!

Alynn,

You could probably save yourself a lot of time by doing a quick mockup using a 3d program and then drawing over it.  That way you wouldn't have to worry about things like perspective, it would just be perfect...and if you spent some time to learn how, you could even render out a separate pass for lighting...draw yoru scene in solid colors and just multiply by the lighting pass

Ok, it looks good now

Nice revision.

* Where the light hits the bookshelves, the illumination should drop off a bit since some of the light is occluded by the side wall of the bookshelf.

* The chair should not have such a long and sharp-edged shadow.  For one thing shadows get blurrier the farther they are from the base.  And for another thing, you have a fireplace causing additional illumination which is going to be helping to cancel out the shadow as well.

* Try adding a bit of browns into the lampshade on the edges, because the light should be brighter in the center of the shade and less bright on the edges where its not coming out toward the viewer

You make the shelves too dark in the edit

Your main problem before was that you put such sharp edges on all the shadows, which should be imperceptibly gradual

Very nice drawing, with very bad lighting :P

Hey Steve, I have only checked out the screenshots but it looks VERY cool.

Maybe you could post some screens in 800x600 res?

I'm afraid to open my mouth on what you should add next, so I'll just say keep on chugging :P

It is sadly possible to cheat with minesweeper...I dont know about using minesweeper, but you can actually tap into the code...I have been planning to design an algorithm to play minesweeper (without cheating) although I would have exposure to the underlying mine-map if I wanted!

I am pretty sure I beat this score over the summer but I forgot the time..anyway this is a good one!

Really nice outlining, but I think it would be much more stunning if you put in proper shading

Very atmospheric, I like it.

Some things you changed in the new pic are worse.

1) The water is gone

2) The light is overlapping the lantern oddly

3) There are too many lines on the wagon wall

Some thigns are better

1) The rendering of the wheels and complex stuff

Looks very nice!

I think the shadow on her legs is a bit too flat

I also think perhaps her upper body could twist a little bit

I think it needs to be smaller, and focus in on only a part of the predator's head, rather than the entire silhouette.  You could have an animated logo that starts out with a full predator but the final image of your logo needs to be a stylized zoomed in image on the head, in my opinion.  And you should incorporate the name into the image.  Your newer image looks better than your last image, but doesn't look like it would be good for a logo for the reasons above

The perspective on the concrete house looks pretty messed up to me

The S shaped highlight is not quite right, instead of using highlights on this side of the tent why not just use shadows instead.  And for the shape, just go with a sheet that is draping down and put a couple folds in it like you did for the other tent.

I'm not going to do a paintover because from the sky, you seem to know what you're doing, you've got the textures, this image is a bit too small to work with and you seem to have a plan for how to apply the textures.  I'll do a paintover AFTER you've hit the wall.

well, just try to break problems down into smaller problems and write functions for them

that way when you want to change something, you usually only need to change a couple functions...and all you have to do is make sure that the pre and post conditions are satisfied and you know the entire program will still work from this change

if you notice any of your functions are getting longer than about 15 lines of code, you probably should be using more functions
