That's unfortunate. I have everything but the scripts basically.  >:(

I still have all the rooms, sprites, sounds, etc etc. I suppose I could possibly just rebuild the several scripts etc I had from scratch, there was just alot done and alot of conversational input etc etc already put in. Probably about 500 lines I'd need to redo.

Ah well, thanks for the input guys, but if anyone knows anything differently, let me know. I'm not entirely sure what version of the program was used, but it was over a year and a half ago, if that helps. I'll try to figure that out more once I get home, as I'm at work right now.

As my topic states, I unfortunately lost the data file for a game I'd been working on a long time ago, and thought about picking back up again. I do still have a compiled .exe and everything else for the last version of the game that had been made.

Is there any way that the .exe can be decompiled to recover the data? Or mayhaps someone else is aware of a method for doing this, I wouldn't mind linking you to it to download...

Hehehehe, it can be like that, but really it's a very simple game and very fun once you understand how to play.

Right off the start of the game though your character is basically about dead. So, the first thing you need to do is get food. Go straight to your left and into the store, first it'll turn in all 5 bottle for a dollar, then go back in, and buy some food.... it's not much, but enough to keep you alive. Then, wait till 11 and get some food in the soup kitchen. From then you're good.
Pick up coins for dollars, and 5 bottles can be turned in for a dollar. Or sometimes you get lucky, and there is a dollar on the ground.

Then once you have a couple bucks, go buy some bones @ the meat shop... and go to the junkyard (extreme left) and use the bones to get 5 bottles from the junkyard and turn them in for a dollar next door. Basically 4 dollars profit per purchase of bones. Stay @ the Roach Hotel at night for $2, buy food if you need it, or go to the soup kitchen... avoid the $4 lunch, it's not worth it.

Then once you have about $40 go the the west side of town, get a haircut, so the cops quit bugging you, and get a job. Rent and apartment, go take some highschool classes.... etc. Remember, if the IRS, and burgalar, or the cops are on you and you need to escape, go in the nearest building... it will make them turn around.

Good luck. =)

Rags to Riches on C64.... does anyone else remember that game?
It was such a great game... except when you got extremely far, and got busted by the IRS.

hehehe, don't worry, there won't be any more tests really until I need beta testers, but I'll update status etc in the meantime.... just wanted to release those so people would see how the game would play.

Welp, finished moving and back online... finally.... sheesh. I've continued production on the game, and things are moving along. I'll have more for you guys soon.

Bad Acid, which alot of info and tests can be downloaded for in this forum is slated right now to be released approximately November or December 04...

Thanks alot for your positive comments. =)
I'll definately let you Beta test when the time comes.

I thought the cheers would be encouraging as well.

Has anyone else found all 4 oddities yet??

I am going to be moving today, so I may be without the internet for a few days. I have uploaded a second test, which doesn't really add much to length of the game... but it does add a few things.

Changes/Additions :
Test of opening screens/cutscene added.
These screens will be updated, but I wanted to make sure I could script it properly and use room changes/gui hides/hide characters/music fading... etc... and it give you a little more idea on the story.
Added a few animations, for example, when the character tries to open the door now, instead of just assuming it's locked, but actually reaches out for the doorknob... though sound still needs to be added.
Updated the dialog a little with Vigo, made it so it extends from the bottom of the screen now.
Added custom menus. Put your mouse to the top.... 100% custom now on Save/Restore/Restart/Quit
Custom Pause Game added w/ Space Bar.
Fixed and tweaked a few other things as well.
Still lots to do.

Anyhow, check it out :

Let me know. I'll be back in a couple days.

I think they're really good. Good transition of the character through different angles. Keep up the good work. =)

Sorry, didn't realize you would take it so personally....
I wouldn't be upset if you called Niagara Falls tacky.

But there isn't 5 smokestacks, that's under exagerating. Go into the city up the QEW from Niagara, I did yesterday, I counted 26 on my way in, and I missed alot on the other side of the highway.

And yes, I know Stoney Creek, and have been there many times.. and you're right, it is beautiful. I have also been involved in many of the protest of the highway, have met with politicians, and have held many of the fundraisers in Hamilton, including all of the ones @ Pepperjacks. I work very closely with The Friends of the Red Hill Valley, and have been finanicially supporting the natives in their legal battles against the government for illegally using their land.

Have you been down there lately, production has definately not stopped. They have already clearcut a good portion of it, and are in progress of blowing up part of the escartment to continue it.... it's sickening.

Well, things are progressing smoothly here. Alot more little things have been added in, mostly new animations (such a hair swaying while walking... character actually reaches out for doorknob and tries to turn it in first room).... dialog and the way it works has been updated, and instead of using ESC,F5,F7,F9 for functions a custom menu has been added to to top of the screen that appear @ Y-Axis Pixel 0....

The third room of the game is starting to come together and about 99% of the story and puzzles are figured out now. Hopefully some of you have become interested in the project.... I'm going to try and set up a website for it soon w/ alot more info.

For those of you who havn't tried it yet, get a feel from the demo... let me know what you think. It's inferior to what I have now, but still gives a good example.

I'll post some more content soon.

Ooooooh, ok, sorry about that. =)

Thanks alot.

Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Hamilton is approix. an hour from Toronto, half an hour from Niagra falls. 8)

Hamilton's a nice place.Ã,  Been through their many times on my trips to Canada.Ã,  I'm from Syracuse NY, which is about 3 and a half hours from there.

Bt

Hehehehehe, ya, that's about 40 mins from me.... it's nice alright... if you can ignore the fact that there are smokestacks everywhere, some with flames coming out of it.... and ignore that they are tearing down a national biosphere forest to spend 200 million dollars on a highway this area doesn't need.

Niagara Falls, Niagara Region, Ontario, Canada, North America, Western World, Planet Earth, Milky Way Galaxy.

Ok, that's just silly. I am however one of only 75,000 citizens of a city which recieves over 40 million tourists a year. Plus, we just finished our "great new casino" which now has the largest casino gaming floor in the world, so I imagine that number is about to skyrocket. 2 Casino's now, you should see it, the place is starting to look like little Vegas down there.

At least some people still come to see that natural wonder, The Falls. They're nice, however, the fireworks every night arn't... and the traffic... oh god.

Ohhhh... and we get alot of American's coming over because you can drink @ 19 instead of 21 and we have so many strip clubs. The parking lots are full at noon!

.... I need to move....

Thanks for your reply.

QuoteUse the game.dialog_options_x and game.dialog_options_y variables.

What I mean by push it down from the top though is not the actual GUI box, but the text that displays in the GUI not the actual GUI itself. Right now the options start at the very top pixel of the GUI, but it makes it looks like it's too close to edge and too close to the game, what I want to do is push the GUI options down into the box some.

That's really just a placeholder music file since I havn't at all concentrated on music yet. =)... glad you guys enjoyed it so far. If it helps, there are 3 oddities in the first room and one in the second.
#19
Thanks for the reply, actually, that did help, though I havn't tested it yet.
I think you've got a good idea there with creating another GUI around it. I can make 4 extra GUI's, one for each side, with graphics.... and just have them appear via the script whenever the dialog is started and stopped.

It may work, who knows.... I'll just have to try it to see I suppose. =)

Thanks again for your reply.

Ok, well I got a little more finished tonight than expected... it isn't much, but you can go grab the test at :

http://www.sustain-niagara.org/badacidtest1.zip

So far the game has 4 obtainable items, 4 oddities to be found, about 90 custom description and dialog options available. So make sure you use all your available functions on everything, 95% of responses will be custom made for that item, and many of them are quite humorous... at least I think so. 2 rooms, so walk out the first room to the left.

I have spent alot of time on the "little things" to make the gameplay more enjoyable... as I think those little things are the best part of a game.

Well, tell me what you think so far and enjoy.

Remember, this is just a small 2 room test so people can see what the game is going to be like and play like, so don't be too critical. =)

Incase you're wondering, right click or scroll your mouse to move between interactable options (little feet: walk to, eyeball: look at, mouth: talk to, close hand: use, hand looking like it's picking up something: pick up).... those will all most likely be slightly altered in the future, but give me your ideas on that as well.

Oh! And I know the current dialog function is ugly! It's being updated. As well as the (ESC: Quit) Quit, Restore and Save functions.... which will be a menu that appears at the top of the screen.... I just havn't done the code to go with the graphics yet.

Anyhow, no more typing for me, or reading for you right now... go check it out, and tell me what you think!
