i dont think the right side of the tree should be so dark....
in a 3d render with GI im pretty sure the tree wouldmuch lighter...

This is what i meant with caustics. I pulled this render together in 5 minutes to show you.

I used mental ray for this one. Also added a tiny touch of DOF for the sake of it.Ã,  :=
Hope this helps!!

you should use caustics so the glass shadow looks right. the thing is that the scanline render of max doesn't use caustics,,,you should use the mental ray renderer or vray, or something like that...

hey
mouse or tablet??

if mouse, how long?

and the background looks very nice

i would make go around jumping like the tentacles in DOT.
but that can be quite annoying while playing....

i think the exit door is too small.
considering the height of where the message board is, and that it seems to be at an eye level(taking into account the size of the computer, etc) the exit door should be bigger

the rest looks very nice

before drawing a car,,,you should take a look at the perspective, its quite off. the street dissapearing like that, thats not right.

thats why you should fix the perspective first, then try to draw a car.
For the car,,,reference pics, all you need

Critics' Lounge / Re: does my bg look good?

hey
the bg looks nice, but it has room for improvement.

i would recommend you a coupple of things...

1)use GI in your renders, remember they are not rendered in real time...
2)work on the textures. they shouldn't look tiled. they should look as if you designed each and everyone of them
3)bump map! i can see some in the walls if i'm not wrong, but a high res bump map can really help to add detail. You can also try displacement maps for high frequency details, but why bother...
3)a)you can also consider using opacity maps, for example to texture the basket
4)regarding the light, you can add the effect of a lightbeam going through the window to give it a nice warm feeling.
5) regarding the lens distortion....i don't think its gonna work with prerendered/hand drawn sprites....basicaly because the sprites won't deform accordingly to the lens distortion

other than that, good job! keep on going!
see ya

the renders look nice...
but you should try rendering using global ilumination and also softer shadows...also try imrpoving the shaders and textures

i think the pov is too high...considering the character you showed. Yo should lower the camera a bit.

but apart from that, looks nice

i really like. Looks like a good starting point. Regarding the colours, i would use more blue-ish tones. And make the moonlight highlights in some kind of white-yellow colour.

but is looking really good

it looks nice,,,but i think you should change the pov.

the one you've chosen makes all look too flat and uninteresting, even though is well done and everything

just a thought

Looks very nice

But...
-You look as if you don't have a neck
-The arms look a bit stiff in the zoomed version, but they look ok in the 100x zoom one.
-The pants shape reminds me of the pants of another character sprite,,,can't remember though,,,,i think it's the indiana jones sprite from FOA. Anyhow, they look very nice

That's all

They are huge!! Considering their resolution i have to say they are not very good. Specially this one http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Copy_of_Copy_of_Copy_of_room.jpg

The rest could look ok with a much lower resolution...
Rounding up, you are not putting into practise the advantages that those resolutions give you

I don't know if it is me, but in the new edit, the couches seem to be suspended in mid air.

Other than that, it's very nice
