Okay! I downloaded and listened to and liked all entries so far. Since I'm at a laptop right now, I'm gonna take them home, listen to htem again at my speakers and judge tomorrow.

Sorry for the delay!
The task for the new competition is based on a book I got, "Die Popformeln". It mainly presents some chord-sequences, that are commonly used in modern pop & rock music. They always sound very pleasent (maybe it's because one has heard them so often maybe it's the other way around) and can give you a nice startup and some quick inspiration. Blablabla...

The task:

Take one of these chord-sequences and base a tune upon it!

C-Am-F-G

C-B-F-C

Am-Dm-G-C-F-Dm-E-Am

-you may transpose them
-ýou don't have to play the full chords, you can just imply them
-you don't have to use them the whole track through, but a major part should be basded upon them.
-you may differ the length
BUT: somebody who knows that you used them should be able to recognize the chords.

Bonus Task:

Describe a scene in a game where your tune could be used. I'm not gonna take this description into account when rating the tunes, but I might like your tune better if I can imagine a scene where it plays.

I'm not totally satisfied with this. The melody is not very Mozart-like during some parts. But since I'm not sure if I find some time during the next few days, I upload anyways.

The original
Wolle (I thought he did the original)

Critics' Lounge / Music : Tanzmob2000

On www.myspace.com/tanzmob2000 you can find the teaser for our upcoming album "Übermenschen in Unterhemden" and two prereleases of tracks.
It's pretty hard to say which genre this is. We usually call it "sikkore" it's mostly a combination of techno and rap. The lyrics are all german but I think it should also be interesting if you don't understand nothing.

Oh my god! Blue cups are getting commercial:

STOP USING AGS!!!

Means:
POkemon is a great game concept and a good game. Only because it got famous around preteens it's not a bad game. Try it before you blame it!

General Discussion / Re: AGS Music 1.0

I would be interested to contribute to (almost) any compilation but I would say that there aren't many people that would buy it. I'd say it should be downloadeable for free and only sell the tracks on CD with cover and maybe some gimmicks to those who want to support. This way people know what they would get.

I'm gonna upload now because I don't want to miss the deadline again. Maybe I'm gonna put in some variations later and upload a new version then.

It's surely possible to do this via AGS. But you'd have to program all the controls and interaction handling. For this purpose, I'd take a look at RM2k or other versions of the RPGMaker. It's intended for RPGs but fits this purpose better.

I'd set variables into the objects script to declare which buttons should be active, then start a script activating the gui and, depending on the just set variables, hides,  the buttons you don't need. If you want the buttons at specific positions, I'd create a gui for each one of them.

I started working on an entry. Would be cool to leave this compo open till 9th.

But those things ARE being explored. Only, in a graphical and 3D environment.

Well, I thought about this. But all these games are very limited due to AI or physic-engines. I'm thinking of real freedom to do whatever you want. Not just carrying things around, laying them down elsewhere or killing people to have some guards beeing alerted for the next few seconds. If there would be some (or to be a little more realistic: a bunch of) well developed formulas and models used to calculate how society, nature, people and so on react to certain interactions, how they act and interact without the player character beeing involved, think of the possibilitys. The player would also not be restricted by a very limited number of commands and possible actions.

I played some text-based MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Roleplaying Games), that are pretty much like Text-Adventures (Try http://www.onrpg.com/mmorpg-free-games7.html if you want to take a look at some). During the big times of Infocom & Co my not existing english-skills prevented me from playing those games and later on I didn't have the patience to really get into one (I started Hitchickers Guide a hundred times but never played longer than 15min), but I often thought about how cool a really good programmed Text-Adventure could be nowerdays. Does not mean that existing ones might not be cool, but what if text adventures would use the power of newer computers.
Not only a brilliant, developing parser. I thought of artificial intelligence and a world that's changing during the game. I mean not only day-night or seasons. People in the world can walk around, do different thinks, like go to work, have different hobbys, maybe growup, die, have children, change their interests due to their experiences, develope different characteristica...
The player could have endless possibilitys to interact with this world and to influence it.

Wow!

Finally I finished finishing the contest. I was happy when I saw problem commenting the entrys after the last competition. Think that's quite a motivation and the affords that are put into the composing earn this. I'm not a music expert, so I can't tell you much more than "I like.. I hate..." blablabla---
Ã,
Eigen: The dark atmosphere of Doom. Has been caught pretty well. I just feel like sneaking around dark corridors and slaughtering everything that's gonna after reaching the climax it gets too static, the last piano appears in my opinion too abrupt.

Ghormak: Wow, sounds pretty much like good old SID. Brilliant synth-programming. Benn would have been proud of you.

OZ: Arrr! Another great rebuild of the original music. Nice additions to the original. The hey in the beginning's awsome. Fucking piratish. It's fantastic how you managed to put so much into one song without making it sound overloaded, without letting one single sound seem useless.

Petteri: Was amazed how beautiful the Mega-Man music sounds slomo. As you say, a bit repetitive. Though it's not getting boring, you maybe should've done something with synthesizers or "extra"-sounds (the lasers sound like a good idea). Think I can't count it as an entry anyway.

Damien: Nice idea and really rocky. You maybe should have put some more work on it after the recording. The leadguitar sounds somewhat empty and the fadeout's just not satisfying.

Vel: Gabriel Knight's a pretty hard task to work on (I listened to some soundtrack midis to know the originals) . Your song sounds really nice (the rubbersynth in the background's cool) but in the end I was waiting for something to happen.

I really REALLY liked every single entry. Was afraid that I could have perjuduices because I love or hate one of the games, but I played none of them a lot (I finished Monkey Island but I had no soundcard these days) so I should be neutral. In the end I was twisted (or whatever you say, I think you know what I mean;)Ã,  between Ghormak's Last Ninja and Oz's Monkey Island.

The winner is:
Oz

because he put more motion into his song and because of the "HEY!".
Congratulation
