Rules-create a unique approach to a solution of puzzles in order to reach your goal. With you is an arsenal of items that you may or may not use to reach this goal. Good luck!

Voting-After the deadline, voting will begin on who is the most creative!

The Prize- The winner is graced to take the time to create a unique scenario of his own for the rest of the community to play with

Scenario- A hospital within which you are a patient. You were drugged by a mysterious woman while at a bar, and you have awoken here. With time running short and your paranoia running high, you believe an attempt at your life is imminent and you must leave the hospital as soon as possible. When you try to leave, a police officer stands vigilant at your door and escorts you back inside.

The Room: The room itself is nearly barren and cold, next to your bed is the bed of another patient, who lays there quiet and unmoving, clearly asleep.Next to his bed is a balloon that says," get well soon." On the back wall are your pants with, what you believe, is the other patient's belongings. Next to your bed is a fake model of the human skeleton. The windows are unopenable, and you are on the 5th floor. What do you do

At your Disposal is-

- A Clump of hair? (found in the other patients pants)
- The vital signs machinery beside each bed
- Ketchup packets
- An old coat
- A pair of pants
- The medical bed (which comes with nurse call button, tv controls, sheets and a pillow)
- your medical robe
- A fake model of the human skeleton
- The Balloon filled with helium
- A sack of heavy sand (which weighs down the baloon)
- An empty lunch cart
- two more items of your choosing which must have a good reason for being there.

Let's see what you can do!

Sounds, that is one of the keys to building tension in terms of horror in the gaming (and movie) world. Now this is one of the more difficult things to pull off well. You must use sounds that people relate to..something that is similar to what they would hear on a daily basis if the room was quiet and they listened...also, to amplify the tension, apply those sounds to the horror aspect. For example, I will use Signs since it was addressed earlier...the aliens movement...you did not see them, but you could hear them..their footsteps, how they moved seemed hurried rushed, desperate to find someone or something. you have to make the horror seem believable, even if it clearly is not. Pull the person in with sound, and realistic aspects taking a unrealistic twist. I am probably not making much sense..but it's early in the morning..need caffiene

Alright, in order to fully explain and understand this competition, I will have to break down what groups of people I am catering to.

1.The Religious- Being aware that in this time period, religion held a very heavy weight in the society, my first and most important group is the religious temple goers and priests and priestesses. I would first, in my oh so divine charity and care for the growth of our local temples, would donate the divine statuette of jupiter to the people...and...to comemmorate such an event, would start it off with the bang by sacrificing....the duck with my gladius, using the blood of the duck with my quill to them etch a holy saying of some kind into the statue to purify and endow it with it's holy power (or something to that effect)

2. The Actors and Entertainers- During the festival of Bacchus I would work with a troupe of actors and playwrights to put on a performance of epic proportions. This would be semi-historical depiction of the Roman's defection from the Etruscan society (which was pretty bloody) I would then use my duck blood covered sword, helmet as my costume, rush out into the stage and begin the tale.

3. The Party-goers-After the play, the festivities would continue with orgies, drinking, and all that good stuff. I would use my Myrrh with a bottle of wine to create, pretty much, a date-rape substance (Historically, the jews would give it to any who were punished to death so that they would be completely disoriented and unrealizing of their pain) todrug the oh so fair vestel virgins. I would sneak into their chamber, ripping my toga into long strips and tying them together into a rope. Use that rope to climbi nto their window...give them the drugged wine, posing it as a a simple sacrifice to the god Bacchus in his holy day, get them all drugged up and....well you know what's next. This, although highly illegal and is a penalty punishable by castration and even death, would put you in high graces with the drunkards and perverts (even though the vestel virgins...were not so vestel...nor virgins so they story goes) There is another demographic

4.The Farmers-Although a minor play in the land of voting in Rome, I would try and help out thel ocal farmers having issues with their crops flourishing and well issues. This is a pretty straightfoward approach .Iw ould put my divine faith in the gods and mysuperstition by using the forked stick as a water finder, follow it to where it leads me and mark it's location using my quill and parchment, give it to the head of the farm and run before they find out it was a farce....(which would take some time..hopefully after election day)

So there you have it...man was that long winded.

With the new characters (Teal'c and daniel in particular) is their shoulder's position. they seem too flat and rigid, resting too high on their chest...try and just lower the shoulders. anyways, these look excellent, can't wait to see your final product

"Saying Uwe Boll's Alone in the Dark is better than his 2003 American debut House of the Dead is akin to praising syphilis for not being HIV."
-- Nicholas Schager, SLANT MAGAZINE

This is, by far, the best way to describe this movie...need we say more?

Last movie I saw....Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, not bad..the dub did not cause my head to implode so it was withstandable.

other than that..the worst movie I have ever laid witness to...there are a few
1.  Garden State- let's make this unbelievably drawn out movie about.....nothing! and label it art, for it means something that doesn't really exist except in our thoughts which don't exist or something like that (god I sound like "them"!).....stupid artsy flicks....get to the point
2. Monsturd-speaks for itself
3. Texas Chainsaw Massacred:the new breed (or something like that) :was by far the most hilarious movie I have ever seen in my entire life...it was so bad it was vomit inducing!

Little bit of mindless information for you. Did you know that the creators of the origional arcade game Joust! had plans on making their game into a movie? now...what would the plot of that really be? just a little guy with his faithful pet flying bird thingy in a fiery arena of doom fighting off hordes of knights in order to obtain the holy eggs of pointliness! Brilliant!

magintz, in terms of battery life, the DS does actually roughly around 14-18 hours (so I have experienced so far) of course, that was straight out of the box when I supposed to charge it.

for those that are out a lot and like to game on the go, the DS scores big points in that department, but you do have to be careful, the system is pretty fragile (well all handhelds are really fragile)

Another thing, that has been not been mentioned much is multiplayer. This, I feel is where the DS scores much higher marks. With wireless multiplayer which, in my many of the titles, only requires one cartridge to play with others. This is, by far the most enticing aspect of the DS as a system if you are into multiplayer. Don't want mario 64 DS but want to play it multiplayer..go right ahead... Want to try Jam with a Band before buying it. find someone who has it and you get to have a taste without having to worry about purchasing a crappy title. Add on to that, the fact that nintendo is on the verge of unveiling the wi-fi capabilities (which is most likely going to go the way of xbox-live...which is okay) it is a good day to game.

Now with the PSP, you as well have great multiplayer games, but they do require multiple copies of the game to play with others, and add on to the fact that it brings the battery life down to about two and a half hours...but...the multiplayer, from what I hear, handles almost flawlessly, with a lot of entertaining titles coming out including dynasty warriors, armored core, and darkstalkers...for the multiplayer lover..there is a lot to be jumping up and down for with these two systems.

another thing interesting about the DS is the ability to unlock secrets within DS games by having certain GBA games inserted as well. The big example of that is Sega's Feel the Magic XX/XY which unlocks different outfits by having different Sega GBA games in while you play

First off I would like to say this is a great image, very clean, and well drawn.  The more you show of this game, the more excited I am to see it's final product.

Now, with the critique, there are two problems that I see in terms of perspective. The first is the hand, it looks like it is turnedin a relaxed "apish" position, but the arm shows it to be at it's side (does that make sense?) I suggest putting the hands to show all the fingers and turn the angle so they look to be more uniform with the waist.

The second I see that is a bit off is the perspective of the officer's gut. The way it looks was as if he was standing profile to the left, but his legs and position is slightly diagonal. My suggetion is distribute the weight more to the right side of the picture(which would be the character's left side) so that everything is not one sided and fits more perspectively. this as well changes the angle of his tie and badge.

This, though looks like a great character with a lot of life, I can't wait! keep up the good work

I would be inclined towards the PSP, as it would have much different games on a portable handheld , whereas the DS will be relaease old games

That may be true at the moment, because of it's quick release date. but a lot of it's upcoming titles are completely new or very updated (an online animal crossing, a new version of wario ware) as well as some great origional titles such as :Jump superstars...think smash brothers with Jump Manga characters. Another Code which is a true blue adventure game, and not to mention the other numerous unique approaches to already established series, Gunbare Goeman, Yoshi Touch and Go, Kirby magic Paintbrush, and many more which utilize all the aspects of the system, while keeping it entertaining.

Now I seem biased, but the PSP as well has some great games coming out including the new metal gear solid, Grim Jr. (jonen vasquez as the art director), a new dynasty warriors that looks smoother and more beautiful than any of the ps2 and xbox incarnations....and tales of eternia, by far the most beautiful sprite based rpg I have ever seen. They both are garnering to a different type of player.

The PSP is more towards the hardcore gamer, with a lot of solid video game foundations, while the DS caters more to the casual person who hasn't had much gaming experience.....I think it is really apples and oranges in my opinion..but think both are going to be great..

Alright there are a few flaws inthe statement that you had made. The first Iw ish to point out is that the DS is not meant to be the primary competitor towards the PSP. Because of their similar release dates that may seem to be the case, but in terms of hardware and capabilities, the newest incarnation of the game boy will be the direct competitor.

Size and ergonomics? have you held a DS. It fits in your hand comfortably, and only causes discomfort after around 4 hours of continuous play. The only fault in it's design, I see, is the lack of analogue which is made up for with stylus control (it takes some time, but if you get it down, it is smooth as butter).

You are right to state the DS was rushed, with it's lack of quality titles (hell it was announced earlier that year..that's saying something). but will definatly pull through with a long list of great upcoming titles that seem to be using the wide range of DS abilities.

But let's talk about the PSP. The PSP has unbelievable graphics and stylish controls via the analogue stick. The battery life is a supreme killer in my opinion, and one major reason as to why it is not as large of a hit in japan as it could be. I am excited about a lot of their upcoming origional titles (grim Jr. especially) but feel there are some systematic flaws that need to be fixed immediatly for it release into the US Market. The first, and most important is the flaw where the UMD discs pop out of the system randomly. Add to that dead pixels (DS has them too), overheating, strange appearances of dust, buttons sticking, buttons not being recognized (these are all in short percentages, but can still happen and be a huge problem) IF it wants any success in the US market it definatly needs to address these issues. Other than that I see them both competiting well, and that the PSP will definatly flourish more in the US market than the japanese.

well, although I have never finished a game quite yet (but I just came into the community 1 month ago..and have been working pretty hard) I believe really that the time it takes for someone to make a game relies heavily on their dedication, and on how much attention they want to put on the specific aspects of the game. I know that my game will take some time, mostly because it will be just me working on it...and that a lot of my time is spent on the details of the world sorrounding my character...the game itself will be quite short, but will be full of life and a fervor for bringing the player into the atmosphere. That will take time.

With multiple people, you may not get things done faster...at times others can hinder your work by procrastinating, or by not being on the same wave length in terms of style and understanding of what you want to achieve. It takes a lot of time in terms of forming a team that fits your style and takes even more time to coordinate their efforts into a cohesive group...but like I said, the more time you put into these things, the better your game is going to turn out.....at least I hope so

That was definatly a superb piece you created there, it gave you a definitive "theme" song that really does an excellent job at summing up what your game is going to be about. I felt it was composed quite well and, as well, an excellent quality to that music. I can not wait to see (and hear) the final product

You know radiant, that was one big reason as to why I enjoyed Ultima 6 and such..the world was very vibrant and alive..a lot of times, in adventure games, anyone besides the necessary character's were very static background music. I wouldl like to see them as integral parts, make them move, have a routine..and such...now that is quite complex to do, and would hope to see future adventure games that come out commercially to maybe add to that...let's see more dynamic character actions....I love to see even the most unimportant character havea  life and have emotions and ideas, that you can hear if you wish....the key is...to make them optional, and make them enjoyable

well with trespasser, yeah the interface was buggy as all hell and really uncontrollable..but the idea of it was what I was focusing on. The idea to pick up interact with everything..something similar to the shenmu series as well for the sega dreamcast (and xbox) just the ability to pick up, look at and interact with an object. This would give you multiple approaches to situations, a more innovative approach. I would lke to see more interactivity and multiple approaches to situations to fit your style of play (something to the effect of the quest for glory series) I think that, if done properly, you could make an unbelievable game that envelopes the player and brings you deeper into the story.

I just stumbled upon an adventure game being made for the Nintendo DS a REAL Adventure game. It goes by the title Another Code and has really piqued my interest. It has logic puzzles much like the Myst-Style games, but the exploration and character interactions and artwork of the other types of adventure games. Let's hope this game does a good job when it comes out...here is a link with info for it with some video and screens as well

one of the hardest things to do in sprite creation, I feel is creating the eye. The eyebrows in all of the characters seem too distracting, they jut out just a little too much....that's about I really have in terms of criticism though..just try and cut back in the very prolific eyebrows

General Discussion / Re: Anime

I personally enjoy a few select works of anime, much the same as I enjoy certain select works from a certain genre of music. It really applies to the likes and dislikes of everything of mine; it must fit the mood I am in and strike a chord with me, be it stylistically, musically, or any other various ways. Personal ones I enjoyed have been:

1.Ghost in the Shell
2.Macross Plus (one of the greatest soundtracks I have ever heard in my entire life)
3.Golden Boy (best dubbed and dialogue I have ever heard from an anime)
4.R.O.D: Read or Die (a great artistic mesh of culture and time eras)

General Discussion / Re: Books V.S. Movies
Tue 18/01/2005 17:00:52
well my only complaint is the fact that people go and watch a movie expecting it to be worse than the book...why waste your money?

I never really said jurassic park was bad, I simply said it differed greatly from the book.. I enjoyed it still the same. What I feel is needed if you wish to translate a book to movie is do it the chronicles of riddick way when they made escape from butcher bay. Make a movie that takes place in the world, seperate from the books, but still adds to it's mythology in a way that is enlightening and enjoyable. But that's just me.
