Thanks everyone for your entries  - a lot of great entries, which made my job extremely difficult .. The top entries were just a hairline away from each other ...
Anyway Time to announce the winners:

Paper Carnival

Fits perfectly to the slot, nice diagonal lines, good color balance and the details (such as the pic and stamp) makes it an ideal inventory slot I would like to see in a game.
Well done on getting gold for this one, and best of luck organizing the next Sprite Jam.

Ghost

You've made the first entry and set the bar very high for the rest of the competitors.
Woody McGrub (tm) has a lot of character, fits the slot neatly and the colors mix pleasantly to the eye.
And on a sidenote - yes, he should have his own game, talkshow and snackfood line :)

Gilbot V7000a

You've added a tropical touch to the competition :)
Good form which fits the inventory slot nicely.

Thanks everyone for your entries.
Aight, it's now up to Paper Carnival to make the next Sprite Jam :)

great entries so far !
for any last minute entries, you have exactly 1 more day from the time of this post :)
But you posted that after midnight on the fourst, so 24 hours on would make it the... fist. :-\

ye but I'm on australian clock, which means being too stocked up on weed to be on time :)

This is not an entry!

It's annoying to have to sift through countless off-topic and meaningless posts to find actual entries in a competition thread ... it's the reason I don't enter the competitions anymore.

All current entries are now shown in the first post as a nice inventory stack, no need to go through all these pages anymore :)

I think if two persons have the same idea, the quality of the sprite is the deciding factor...

@eggie: How would I open a door with a flute, three biscuits and an upside down sign???  ;D

Can't avoid common ideas like keys, cards and such to have multiple entries - but you wouldn't want people to ripoff eachother for the more creative ones - I think that's common sense, and so far everyone is doing well :)

I thought you leave the note on near the door with biscuits, then hide behind one of the bushes and play the flute to lure the guard out, who will leave it open in exchange for the biscuits.

Nice entries so far, will be really hard judging the first places for this one ;)
For those who haven't posted their entries yet, there's still a whole week left for the competition :)

Very nice drawing by Ghost, very nice concept by Stu. I'm still stuck for ideas but :(.

It's amusing that in every competition here, the participants feel they have to make a crazier and more original idea then the previous ones.
Like most competitions here, the quality of your artwork is the key thing here. (no pun intended)
You have about a gazillion different possibilities here, just make something you enjoy working on and have fun :)

Sprite:
An item used to pass a door in the game. (either unlock it, open it, force it open, blow it up, etc)
The item has to fit the inventory slot in this interface :

Rules and Entry:
* Your final entry must contain your sprite on the single inventory slot as supplied above.
* The item has to fit this slot properly like it would do in a normal adventure game.
* No resizing of the inventory slot unless it's for zooming.
* The item has to make sense of it's usage to open the door - you wouldn't want your player to get stuck because it didn't make sense, however crazy is fine.
* Antialiasing the sprite edges is allowed.
* No color limit.

Shiny barred door trophies for the lucky burglars :)

Thanks everyone for your entries, Time to announce the winners !

thebaddie
Top entry without a doubt,  great execution and the colors make it really pleasant to look at.
I have to admit I really didn't see that one coming, and was a real pleasure to see this one, well done !

Ilmion
Loved the idea and concept, and the colors are well chosen.
A shame the clean lines got wiped due to the .jpeg compression, I recommend to always keep an original, so you could repost in case of bad compression :)

Mr. Suit
Bizarre entry, very disturbing and made me think of happy times under the influence of "medicinal herbs" ;)

Buckethead and Domino
You can use the silhouette as an honorary mark for attending, thank you :)

thebaddie - your turn to start the next competition, g'luck :)

Extraordinary entries so far, only a few more days remaining for any additional entries :)

During one of my travels to Africa, I came across a peculiar tribe of natives. The tribe's elder had a decorated staff, which he claimed had "big spirit magic" in it - and whenever he shook it, the entire tribe all fell silent in fear.
It was long ago, but I do remember it had this shape :

The Rules:
*Curve your own spiritual staff, and decorate it with whatever you see fit.
*No colour limit
*You can flip and rotate the outline
*You can resize the image but not the outline
*The outline can be modified slightly, but must be recognisable
*You can place objects on top of the outline but the outline must remain recognisable
*Feel free to include a background
*Have fun!

Shiny trophy idols have been fetched for the event.

Thanks Ghost, and thanks everyone for the nice compliments :)
Nice wacky entries all around for this one - I'm glad everyone got some sort of award ;)

I'll start the next ball within the following week

After his failed attempt as a hunter, Elmer Fudd was deep into debt and had to turn to a life of crime.
Several years later, Elmer Fudd as a ghetto gansta.

I've originally made this for sprites with AA edges, but I've also added an .gif with pixalated edges for the heck of it.
