I must also admit.  I am blowie.

Although I think we created this account on AGA's computer.

It's also tied to my email address.

So wait... Blowie is two persons at the same time? There must be a violation of some sort in there somewhere.

The Rumpus Room / Re: Riddle me this

Yeah, the terrain type and the length is irrelevant, but that's what makes it a riddle.

This was my approach to the answer, a bit like the two-persons-meeting -solution but maybe not as intuitive.

I myself do too think that Darth's blue cups would be the perfect choice as the new smiley set. They're probably not what the original idea was, but now that I've tried my luck at drawing a detailed character as a smiley, I've started to think it might not be the best idea; if you make it too detailed, the expression the smiley is supposed to convey is not very clear. If you make it too smiley-like, it doesn't look or feel like the original character anymore. Depends on the original character though.

Darth's smileys are clearly smileys, good ones at that, and above all there's a part of AGS itself in them.
I don't think the white frame gives them an odd look at all, though they might look better without it, I don't know.

All I'm really concerned is the way they would align with the text. What I gather from straydogstrut's post, to my taste the smileys would be too high compared to the text.

Here's a fuller set of the Azriel-smileys for your consideration. I'm especially proud of the sad-smiley (not). I tried to increase the color contrast and make them more clear and smiley-like.

I tend to use a lot of key combinations like ctrl + tab, ctrl + shift + tab, alt + tab, because it's actually a lot faster way to use the computer at times. Just before I wrote that previous sentence, I pressed ctrl + f4 because I wanted to close a tab, but I had a brain fart and closed this one instead. In less than a second I got this tab back just by pressing ctrl + shift + t and was back in business. If I'm not entirely sure how to write some English word, I just press ctrl + t, type the word to the address bar (that's where the focus goes immediately), check the spelling and press ctrl + f4 to close the tab and get back here. Without moving my hands I can open the irssi window and check if anyone has said anything worthwhile, and come back, doing it a lot faster than with a mouse. This might sound extremely lazy, and using a mouse to do it wouldn't really be a problem. Only then would it irritate me if the mouse were the only option. Because I know of a better way.

I use mouse only if I have to, and most of the time I just use the wheel. I hate sites that can be scrolled horizontally, because they are just not practical.

So, I have to ask, does your site support these keyboard shortcuts?

Jared, all you need is an editor that supports saving in .png with transparency. I usually use GIMP.

To make the background transparent (if it already isn't), first I select the color I want to be transparent by the select-tool -> select by color, and after that I choose Colors -> color to alpha. If I don't select the color I want to make transparent and just use "color to alpha", it makes that color totally transparent and the rest of the colors translucent, which isn't desirable.

Here are the smileys separated.

Here's Ben from Full Throttle. I wasn't really able to make him all that smiley-like. Maybe I'll make more from AGS characters later.

Edit, also here's Azriel from Gemini Rue. I didn't make him smile because, well, I don't really believe his even capable.

I bet the door is locked anyway.

I'd say anything from Studio Ghibli, some of their movies has already been mentioned. Their production vary from ok to great. Can't wait for Karigurashi no Arietti to be released in Finland...

At the moment I'm watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, which is like the original anime, only more faithful to the manga. I really don't like how the original anime ended (the movie was horrible), but the manga was great.

Oh and Grave of the Fireflies. Absolutely great movie. Got 8.3 in IMDb.

No, it shouldn't be illegal. For (some) reasons already said.

Tuomas:
There is a word for adultery in Finnish: Aviorikos. Although it's rarely used, probably because of the word "crime" in there.

General Discussion / Re: Lurkers
Sat 21/04/2007 21:33:23
Hello, my nick is Jonez and I'm a lurker (feels already better!)

I become a member as soon as I found out about AGS. But for some reason I've never managed to make any games with it.

But whats wrong? I mean I program (with BASIC-syntaxed languages), I like to make games, write stories and I'm pretty artistic. Isn't that all you need for AGS? And yet...

At the moment I am "creating" a game with AGS. This means I have an idea and something scribbled to Notepad.

6das is definitely the best one from the four games. I was just wondering that he could make just one last game from Trilby. Only this one would be all the four games in one large package. (This is for Yahtzee if he's reading) This may be too far stretched, but something like this: What if in this final game you would play each day from each game before the 2nd day? It might be a good idea, but it also might be too confusing for the player.

The larger ones in the background.

Great game! Though I only got ~310 points... (I basically just completed the game without doing the sidequests. It was too late when I realized there were any sidequests). But what was it with the gems? Were they relevant at all to complete the game?

But the ending... Seems like no'one liked it. And I'm not an exception.  ;) Maybe you could make an alternative ending? :) I mean I would play the game again if there were another ending (well I think I'll anyway play the game again some day).

Ok you dont have to improve the game anymore. It's almost perfect already :) Just keep making great games in the future. Hope we hear about you soon.

> click 'interactions'(ctrl I) on room1. (At Room editor > Settings-screen)
> double-click 'Walk off left screen edge' (a pop-up appears)
> Double-click 'Do nothing', another window appears.
> From the pop-up-menu choose 'Player - go to a different room (at specific co-ordinates)
> Change New room number (from 'value') to '2'
> change the X Co-ordinate to the value you want (the player appears to this co-ordinate)
> Do the same with the Y co-ordinate.
(You get the right co-ordinates from the Room Editor > Settings- / Areas- / Objects-screen. The Mouse pos shows the mouses co-ordinates on screen)

I'm probably in too, thought I'm just a newbie in AGS. I only know the basics  :(
Also my english sucks. I registered in to this forum today and found out about  this competition half an hour ago  :)

Please correct me if I spell something wrong or anything else related on english (but of course do not post off topics just to correct me)
