Oh I wish my shading wouldn't look so random. :)

Anyway, here she is. Guess who?

  2x

30x100px, 16+1 colors.
Should be within limits, but sorry in advance if it isn't. There might be some stray pixels I haven't cleared.

Spoiler
Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) from "The Silence of the Lambs"

Thanks for the link. I didn't know about it.

Makes me too want to play it over again, I hope to find the time.

And what a nice presentation. :)

Hopefully MAGS year 2007 is at least as good as the previous. Great entries there!

Not that I would care too much, but the image size is something more than slightly different.

Since it is stored at imageshack it took for me quite long to display though, so you might want to check it out.

I also liked the spiderman very much. It was brilliantly recognisable and the low amount of colors was used well. I found the dithering in this style quite hard to implement.

It was also nice to see some really imaginative entries with the other lineart. I love Tomas' musicians, wonderful piece! :)

I think I messed it up with the background and I will take another look at it, if I have time before the deadline. :)

Too bad they don't meet the deadline (games in database due 31. 12. 2006).

But I downloaded them and play later definately, so thanks for informing. :)

And time's up!

Here are the entries:

Like I said earlier, you really made this competition a tough one - once again.

I was going to divide the bronze with Fishercat and Puppykiller, but decided it finally in favour of SoniaV, because I really like the whisker and all. :)
3rd place: SoniaV

Entry that won second place wasn't cheesy at all. So after a little chase for the cheese I chose scotch's definately good pixelling as runner-up!
2nd place: scotch

But one cat got the mice! So.. the first place and honour of hosting next one goes to:
1st place: ProgZmax!

Great work, looking forward for the next one!

I feel that it is my responsibility to bump this topic, since there must still be some entries that haven't been posted yet.

About 48 hours to go. :)

I played this game recently and was happy to find out that today in January edition of one Finnish computer magazine, "Mikrobitti", there was a short arcticle of your game.

Here is the scan:

And here is a translation (which hopefully is understandable :))

Mikrobitti magazine, January 2007

Automation v1.1
Automation is a short, but sympathetic adventure game. The game takes place in two floors. In the upper one there is the main character of the story, a scientist who is trying to get back his precious robot, which he has dropped through the floor. The droid in question buzzes around in downstairs and player should remove all obstacles blocking its path. This is done step by step by solving problems and combining items. In the end getting the robot safe is surprisingly  uplifting.

Hooray! :)

You all are going to make me hard time choosing the winner! Impressive! ;D

General rules:

  • An image is supplied, and entrants color it.
  • It is allowed to do small modifications to the sprite.
  • A general theme may be given, but it is optional.
  • Host of the competition selects the winner after deadline has passed.
  • The winner hosts the next AGS Coloring Ball.
The sprite:

Colouring rules:

  • Max colours: 16 (including background/transparency)
  • The cat needs to hold something in it's hand.
  • Bonus for using "Alley cat"-theme (optional).
Deadline:

  • 9th of January 2007
This time it is up to you how Cecil the Cat or Fiona the Feline will look like. Also you must add some small object in its hand. Of course you may add other things too, like hat or shoes, etc, but that is not mandatory.

Have fun!

Ok, I'll start new one today. :)

I actually didn't even concider mine as an entry, because it was unfinished, but great that it was liked! ;D
#14
Well, this is heavily unfinished because of Christmas, but I thought posting it anyway:
2x

At first I was going to do something original, but then I got this idea. Later it turned out to be a bad one, because the lineart really didn't match with Edward's "outlines" after all. :)

Sorry to carry on with off-topic, but I understood what Buckethead sain in the same way as dkh did (not "insulting", but rather being astonished or something.)

And so, as I read your post first time, Nacho, to be honest, I was a bit confused myself. :)

I wouldn't go for bluish/cyan because of the jeans.

I'd maybe put more contrast and maybe took off some saturation, but the tones look good to me otherwise. It doesn't even shout: "Hey, somebody forgot the whitebalance!", which is usually problem with these tones as [lgm] also hints.

Sorry to make this so short, but

+ Nice tones
+ Thought point-of-view
+ Good contrast between background and model

- Distractions: curtains, carpet, shoelaces, loose wire (&shadow) on the left...
- I think it needs sharpening
- Feet and jeans left leg cropped (maybe due cropping other things away?)

I am sure that you know that there is no 32nd of December. :)

I sent PM to him days ago and didn't get reply, so maybe you, victOr, could start a new one. :)

Your sprites are great and I think you've found a solid style, but have you tried mixing colors more?

I mean, now the whole character is always one color + skin tones and I'm not quite sure if I like it that much. Other than that, they look very good.
