According to the smart NASA people the bloody thing is going to crash somewhere in Poland. Central Poland to be precise.

Hey, I just happen to be living in Poland, in the very centre thereof.

Visually impressive.

re. combat: if it's there to add flavor and diversity rather than to be the focus of the game and isn't really much of a challenge (I don't mind getting stuck on puzzles, that's what adventure gaming is all about, but a tricky fighting sequence might put me off) I'd love to see it.

Have fun working on your game!

The 1st piece from the trailer? I knew I heard it somewhere before!

Check 02:55 onward, I think it's exactly the same.

General Discussion / Re: What is Britishness?
Wed 06/02/2008 01:29:37
I've never been to the UK and I personally met only 2 or 3 Brits myself.

Which is why I shall state my opinion. Time to overgeneralise!

a) Britishness is dealing with the consequences of having been an empire once. And thinking it's unfair that you have to do it. Britishness is believing (deep inside) in the past long gone, be it the (now almost  totally gone) Green Countryside, the romanticised image of aristocracy, or practically all things with the world “Royal” in them.

b) Britishness means making a TV programme about very expensive cars that people watch only to see two guys argue about teeth whiteners and mock one another. And, against all reason, making it fun to watch.

c) Britishness means laughing all the time at everyone and everything, no exceptions, for the sake of laughing.

f) Britishness also includes going for holidays to another country, drinking a lot, making total idiots out of oneself, trying to be “friendly” with the natives (whilst being drunk) and, in the end, making all the clubs in the city refuse to sell you alcohol.

g) Britishness means not speaking with RP (or: Queen English); only about 10% of Brits do it.

h) Britishness is what fuels British comedy shows and makes them genuinely funny.

i) Britishness means saying “oh, this will be ever so [insert adverb here]” with a straight face.

j) Britishness means... no, it's the other way round: the Beatles, Iron Maiden and Queen mean Britishness (Mercury was British, I think, regardless of him being born to an Indian family of Persian origin in Africa, see: Radio Gaga music video).

k) Britishness means making foreigners wonder whether you're being friendly in a “British” way or you're actually offending them, their cultural heritage and history.

l) Britishness means hurting people because of football.

m) Intelligent Britishness is being aware of all of the aforementioned points and nonetheless being an alright open-minded person and fun to hang out with. Yup, there are such Brits out there.

BTW, is “Brit” offensive to the Brits?

Very well made game, I enjoyed it.

It's not everyday that a game character looks at me and goes  :o

If anything, Christians should be busy preparing for things like Easter or Lent or whatever.

Actually Easter was also originally a pagan celebration, I think. The name itself refers to the goddess Easter or Eoster or somesuch. I might be wrong, thouh.

Anyway, as a Christian (can I type Xian instead?)...

As an Xian I don't give a flying poo about how it's called or what were that particular celebration's roots (I find it interesting, that is, but it doesn't hurt my feelings in any way) or how Chr... Xian it is as long as people take their time and consider not being total bastards for a change as they sit by the Xmas tree (except for those who are not total bastards, naturally).

Also, I think Jesus X sounds cool.

That was fun! And funny. The ending was unexpected yet hilarious, it's incredible what a few frames of animation can do. Make more!

Wierd and alien in a good sort of way. It doesn't have the generic make-an-alien-culture-in-3-easy-steps approach, I can see from here that your game's likely to have quite a lot of depth. Did I mention style? It has lots of it. Awaiting the game with anticipation.

Giant green penguins! In goggles! You see them too? I knew I wasn't seeing things! And they called me mad! MAD I tell you!

Translation: the author of the post wishes to inform the maker of the game that he would very much like to play the said game and that he is looking forward to downloading it.

It would help if it was clear if these "Wound" vignettes were wound (woond) as in injury or wound (wownd) as in wrapped up
They might be both. Ooooh, mysterious...

Anyway, I loved the game, every pixel of it, ever bit of memory processed through the infernal construct that is my PC.

Just so you kow, after playing both games my expectations for the third game are sky high. If these two games were supposed to achieve this effect then mission accomplished  :)

Dear Fellow Student Brother in Suffering,

Your story has moved me deeply, for I had experienced something similar three years ago. I was but a 1st year student of English Bloody Everything (“English Philology” just sounds awkward) and my mind was filled with Pink Fluffy Clouds of Anticipation. Generally I was very excited about being a student.

One day I noticed that my difficulties with a certain horribly complicated linguistic subject are not shared by my collegues. It turned out that some of them found it childlishly easy. My heart, swollen with doubt like a small plastic bag of ketchup (the kind they give you in cheap restaurants), began to scream: “You do not belong here! DUMBASS!”

Fortunately I soon found out that many a poor soul had suffered similar doubts regarding other various subjects, those that I found pretty easy, and I learned that, in the eyes of my collegues, I excelled in some of them.

Soon I learned of the Sane Approach: concentrate on stuff you're good at and just try and pass the stuff you hate. When you chose your seminars, MA thesis etc, make sure you end up working with the topics you like. At least that's how it works here: you get lots of stuff in the first 2 years of your studies (the “general knowledge” that you're supposed to have), you decide what you're interested in and, during the course of the next 3 years, you thoroughly learn the stuff you picked. A nice 5-year academic experience.

At the moment (4th year) I'm enthusiastic about 80% of my classes, the other stuff (mostly things the Ministry of Education believes “every student should know” like Latin, Philosophy, 2nd Foreign Language) I just pass. I get good grades and I'm taking it easy.

There are people who end up learning stuff they're not very interested in, and there's always one or two highschool kids who think they should get fantastic grades in everything. Well, they have it tough.

Nice! I especially like the b&w playing cards. I think the chairs in the 1st render need some work, though, they're too “blocky” IMO.

why are the cards upside down?

Erm, I don't get it, how can playing cards be upside down?

I just love the screenies, now I'll be humming the Beneath a Steel Sky/ theme for hours... ah, the memories...

Anyway, do work on this very promising project, Nightfable.

I've played through both games and I must say I very much enjoyed them. Nice to see some Slavic mythology in action. Great graphics. The game could use some sound though (if not music then maybe some ambient sounds, for example when I saw the bison I subconsciously expected them to go moo... or whatever noise bison produce).

General Discussion / Re: Scanner or Tablet
Tue 23/10/2007 18:49:44
It's mostly a matter of preference, I think. If you've had a lot of experience with real-life drawing and inking I'd get a scanner. If you're not a pro, though, and you don't have any preferences, or if you'd like to try out some new techniques like digital painting I'd experiment with a tablet. Before you buy one I'd advise you to give it a few test-runs, just to see what it's like (as Ghost said the new hand-screen coordination is difficult to get used to).

If you're, by any chance, thinking of doing some 3d sculpting with something like Mudbox or Zbrush the tablet is a must, I think.

If you're a ridiculously rich person who likes ultra hi tech and being the envy of your friends (who would subsequently come to hate you) you could get one of those.

Looking good! If the humour and the puzzles are as good as the graphics then your game's gonna stir the hive, I think.

Hmm... how about a photo/portrait of Dr. Fred Edison for the verb coin?
