I honestly don't remember my first experiences with adventure games. I know it was a text adventure but I have no idea which one because I was very, very young. I think the first time adventure games really started to tug at my curiousity was around the time I played the first Maniac Mansion. I wasn't great at solving puzzles (and I'm still not) but I liked the idea of it and it was always wanting to see what a new section looked like that kept driving me to play.

I find very few mainstream games even appeal to me these days.. Portal was the last one that did on any level. My only beef with mainstream games is the lack of creativity / depth and the endless stream of fps yawn-fests that continue to get released (and sell by the bucket-load).

I'll go with Drawn Together season 1 and Salad Fingers (and anything else by David Firth because he's awesome).

I can't say I've ever been in your situation (I'm lower middle class I suppose) but I do know how to tightly budget my money, which is something I had to teach myself how to do, after years of frittering away my wage on unnecessary things from week to week. Fortunately I'm in the position where I can work longer hours to get some overtime if I need to, I can walk to work to save on petrol money, I can do SOME shopping at cheaper shops when required, buy the cheapest brands of food (if it doesn't taste like crap) and manage to bank some cash each week.

I know some of it doesn't really apply to your situation though.

I dug this and made it to the end. It was frustrating at first but once I figured out the taking cover mechanic and the general timing of enemy fire, it wasn't so bad. I do hope you use elements from this in a larger, future project where you actually get to return fire at something.

Hmm... I was going to buy '250 Indie Games You Must Play' from Amazon but they don't accept Paypal (unless you get a Paypal debit card apparently), so I'm looking for another source for that one.

Didn't know about those adventure books. They both look neat.

General Discussion / Re: The size of games...

Yeah.. 2 gb really isn't that big when compared to some other 'recent' releases. If you're comparing it to previous Worms titles, it probably does seem rather excessive though but as others have said... size is probably a tad more complicated then it seems.

I don't think I've ever had a dream that I've been in control of unfortunately. In fact, I very rarely have dreams at all (or ones that I remember anyways). Not sure why this is. The subject of lucid dreaming does fascinate me though. Bit jealous of anyone that is able to have them on a regular basis.

I personally didn't mind 300, although it just felt like a pale imitation of Sin City. Loved Watchmen though.. I thought he did a pretty solid job there. I haven't seen this yet and I don't know if I will go out of my way to see it. Zack Snyder is good at the whole 'slo mo action' thing but it sounds a bit empty otherwise.

If people want punishment for cheating just go on that Cheaters TV show. I think that's about as much revenge as anyone is going to get (if they actually want it).

I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of hardcore Street Fighter fans take anything and everything that pops up about the game way too seriously. 3 dislikes on youtube means jack really.

Sounds like they are trying to expand but the quality may suffer as a result of the sheer amount of projects that they have going on.

As stated though, if they are successfully turning over a solid profit, I guess maybe that is the bottom line for them.

I enjoyed what I played of this and really loved the graphical style - it really gave the sense of being in a different world. The controls felt a tad clunky at times but I thought the game mechanics themselves weren't bad.. I enjoyed dashing through walls and into enemies and knocking them about. Definitely could use some more polish. Lots of potential there.

Loving the graphical style of this game. Very refreshing and unique.

Loving the oldschool rpg look. Reminds me a little of Eye of the Beholder because my brother used to play it all the time on the Amiga. Good stuff. Keep it up.

Are the visuals influenced by anything in particular?

You could try The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys with Emile Hirsch and Kieran Culkin.

Imaginary Heroes with Emile Hirsch.

I thought they were both pretty decent.

You've probably already seen Donnie Darko but I'll suggest it anyways.
