Horrible?! What are you on about! The Dancing carrot was haunting - but hauntingly AWESOME!

However - the depressing reality is that it was going on 10 years ago now. Shhhh! Don't think about it! Block it out!!!

Squinky! This is awesome! Will you like us on FB? For old time's sake? We've got all your amazing artwork up there (although I've had to explain that it's a bit scary to be apropriate for the new game).

ALSO : while I'm here I thought I'd pimp our dev blog for the game (it's just started now, but subscribe to it and you'll be lumbered with regular updates about what we're up to!)

Wow! The AGS Archives!? I never even knew it existed!

This is completely fantastic! I'm playing a game that I made and that I thought was totally lost to me before breakfast - the day after asking if it still existed! Thank you guys!

Thanks to those of you who already liked us  :=

While I'm here - here's the thing: No one I know of still has a copy of Vegetable Patch Extreem Turbo 2.

Do you? Does anyone you know?

I'd love to track down a copy so I can do an item about it as part of the history of the series - not to mention I'd love to play it again!

If you do - you might be pleased to hear that me and a couple of guys I know are RE-MAKING IT! But this time it's for the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad!

I know we're leaving AGS behind for this total re-make, but none the less I thought I'd come back and post about it here just in case any of you would care to "like" our facebook page and keep up with all the latest news about the new game! There'll be all kinds of silly promotional stuff to see soon.

Here's the link: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Vegetable-Patch/202712266436207?sk=wall

Sure - Nothing much has happened on here yet, but give us a break! We only just started and it WAS the Royal Wedding over the weekend! But now's the BEST time to get us on your news feed - you can be one of our early fans who (if it takes off) can say things like "I was there before it was cool" ;P

Go on - give an old AGSer a thumbs up on a social network web-site! We'd absolutely love to tell you all about our game amongst your regular friend and family updates!

Hello Abstauber! And TerranRich!

Gosh! Blast from the past!

Strange re-reading the plot! I didn't remember any of it - my main memory of the game is the awesome underground bit in the demo...

Wow! This looks amazing! I'll play it even if it isn't translated (I'll just have to brush up my French!)

Wow! I recently read this book (under its original title) to my Boyfriend! He'll be so stoked by the fact there's a game of it now!!! COOL!

Yahtzee once told me that the things-not-happening-in-the-right-order theme from RL&BAT was something he'd seen and thought was good and was going to use in Rob Blanc 3. I was very honoured at the time, and then was seethingly jealous because his game worked quite a lot better than mine. but I don't mind so much now because the amount of time and commitment he puts into his games is CLEARLY much more than I do with mine, so it's only right that he makes superfabby games.

ALSO I remember having the time to make a proper adventure game! I hope I'll have time again some day!

I don't think I was here for the goldenage of AGS. However, I remember play-testing Larry Vales and pointing out that the life-guard's neck doesn't work, and then saying to phil "Why didn't you fix the life-guard's neck?" when the game came out with the problem still there.

Phil was cool.

ALSO: I remember working in a team with m0ds, Yahtzee and a chap called Abstauber who (on the streangth of RL&BAT had let me be the man in charge of the story!!! - FOOOOL) on a really beautiful game with masses of potential that was promptly kicked because Yahtzee decided he couldn't be arsed any more. Mind you, it probably would have trailed off anyway (being a team project).

I remember suggesting mittens as the name for mittens and then never plucking up the courage to actually go... maybe I will in 2009 when it comes back to the UK...

I remember 2ma2 who was brill!

I remember being constantly impressed with the beautiful projects people were working on - they're still beautiful, but it's almost just EXPECTED now!

I remember getting cross because I LIKED graphical scripting and I couldn't understand why it was being kicked when it was such a BRILLIANT and clever idea!

still, I think that AGS was pretty established before all this. it was only a few years ago man!

General Discussion / Re: Great game music
Tue 13/09/2005 11:04:13
Curse of Monkey Island has the best game-music I've ever experienced. It's spot on in my opinion. I also remember the way that the tune built up as you paddled across the swamp in MI2 being really very well implemented.

I suppose Wipeout should be mentioned because of its having been the first game to really make a big deal about its music being y'know... proper dance music and stuff...

I usually turn in-game music off if it's not essential I can hear it though. This is because it's usually really annoying and adds nothing to the game. The HalfLife2 music, for example, was terrible! I was infact quite cross when I got to the underside of that bridge and found myself hearing music even though I thought I'd switched it off! Was that a bug or a very strange design decision?

ONE interesting thing I know about in-game music is this: In an early version of the Quake shareware release (as given away on a PC Gamer cover CD in the UK) the final level of episode 1 contained a very funky tune that was not only inconsistant with the silence of all the other levels, but was miles and MILES away from the NIN music that was shipped with the final version of the game.  It was very interesting to note how much of an enormous difference this tune - compared to silence and the NIN track - made to the feel of the level. I suppose it was probably vestigal place-holder music, but clearly someone at ID was visualising their game as funky-groovy while they made it...

I think it sounds like a fascinating idea! I'd love to offer myself as someone who can program (a bit) and write stories etc etc... I doubt I've proven myself enough in the community to inspire confidence, but I'm un-employed so: WhatEVER!

Mind you, I'd rather it was all set up in Newcastle, because that's where I want to go live (I'm in the forest of dean right now) and, indeed, given the choice of screen 7 OR newcastle, I think the city would win... simply because my Boyfriend is there  :-\

Still, it sounds like a brilliant idea!!!

General Discussion / Re: My GCSE results.
Thu 25/08/2005 12:24:54
I recently got a 2:1 BSc Hons... But it wasn't as stressful as I remember school being.

GCSE's have that sence of being "THE MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER" when you do them... then immidiatly after them, A-levels become THE MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER... And then when you've done THEM and you do a degree, you (or at least *I*) refused to be fooled into thinking it was THE MOST IMPORTANT THING EVER, and started enjoying it instead...

Actually, it's interesting remembering my attitudes towards my GCSE's (shaking and panicing just before going in) and my Degree finals. Although I'd worked much harder, and was probably less certain of myself going into my finals, I remember feeling much more troubled by my GCSE's... barmy!

Still, well done on your results! My advice is DON'T let your maths and English skills go stagnant! You'll find you'll need both of them for EVER AND EVER!!! If you can keep them sharp from your age now, you'll be dead set to do well in everything in your future (I've let my maths go to rot, and it causes me no end of frustration!!)

Hello. I am interested to know if it is possible to make AGS draw lines.

Ultimatly I'd like to build a function which I could call e.g.

DrawLine(28,24,56,93);

Where the numbers are the a ad y values of the start and then end of the line I want on screen.

A single pixel width line would be fine, but I don't really know where to begin!

Is this possible??!?!
