General Discussion / Re: Yo-yo

that yo yo looks like it could kill a man.  I liked my duncan , it was cheap durable and hours of fun.  and what the heck does
"The yo-yo comes stock with no response system " does that mean it comes with no string? they make the whole business sound so technical I feel like an idiot... I just like to played with mine.

I love the new pic. the bushes are great and you have a good hang of the clouds.  do you use photoshop or gimp at all? or are you working all in vector?  I find combining both approaches works best for me.  vector programs are great you get that nice easy crisp look and you can scale to any size you want but they in my opinon don't have the best ability to get the hand made look.  with flower girl I drew my basic shapes mostly in vector in real distinct bold colors then I exported png's then I would select the area I.E. the grass then I would choose an over sized brush and color pick a shade slightly off then go to townI would repeat this process with varying degrees of transparency and different brushes to achieve  a sort of chalky or painted look.

The Rumpus Room / Re: How did you find AGS?

I used to be a regular reader of "all kinds of stuff" a blog by john k ( the guy who made ren and stimpy) and used to look at all the blogs of the people who commented on his blog and sorta follow a trail looking for good art.  I ran across a blog of a guy talking about his first game and how easy and great ags was and how it was free. so I downloaded his game ( some game about a yeti, I don't know who made it but I am forever indebted) and I loved it.  I had a flash back to "les manley search for the king" the first game I ever really spent hours playing, and also "sam and max".  so I downloaded it and was immediately hooked. now I don't go to john K's blog hardly ever I spend all my time here on the AGS forums thinking of Ideas for games researching the possibilities and playing the competitions.  man I love AGS.

EEEGATS!!! I stepped on poor Mr. Snuggles, my neighbors cat. he must have come in through the Laundry chute again.  Good thing I am already in the wash room, hopefully I can get that darnded foot print off his noggin'.  I sure hope this instills a little fear in him so he will stop lovin' all up on my legs every time I step out my front door.

with the mouth I would just try shaving 1 or 2 pixels off the right side.

I love this style. It is actually one of my favorite styles. this is partially what I was trying to achieve with my backgrounds in flowergirl. one of the great things about powerpuff girls is it brought back the simple hand drawn style of the 50 and 60's BG art.I love the look in the clouds.  if I was you I would carry some of the look from the clouds(the chalkiness) and experiment with the buildings. for some reason it just looks too crisp to me. some  of the greatest things about all those cartoons from the 50's and 60's is their muted colors and chalk and paint speckles. OH OH one more thing I would make the window lines in the shadows darker.  if you ever want to do a game in this style and want some help with the art let me know.

I welcome the criticism, this is my first game and I need all the help I can get.  I am compiling a list of errors, shortcomings, and stuff I plain forgot.  I appreciate all the feed back. I plan to in the not so distant future re release it with bug fixes, and stuff I forgot fixes.  already I can see the stuff I need to look out for in my next game. thanks again

not private indeed. I will be using this list.

SEE NO!  HEAR NO! SPEAK NO!

with their powers combined these three heroes have the super senses of an average human being. If their Lucky they just may detect some evil!

My fixes are delayed because I really want to nail most of the bugs at once.  I would really appreciate any help with spelling or grammar errors, considering I am the one who messed it up in the first place.  if any one wants to help me fix bugs that would also be great.   I will be frank, this is my first game, first scripting attempt and I am just amazed I made a game.  there is a lot about scripting and all that jazz I still have to learn.  I am really thinking teaming up would be a good Idea, I could probably learn tons.

sorry for all the typos I will have to really check it out.  some of the grammar was done on purpose for what ever silly way my mind works.  I will admit all my papers in high school came back with a lot of red on them.  I am also aware of the simplicity of puzzles.  I  really should team up with someone.  I will try and fix some of the stuff you guys mentioned and re upload it.  thanks for the input

Completed Game Announcements / flower girl
Wed 17/09/2008 03:10:42
well I finished my first AGS game flower girl.  there are probably some bugs and some things I could have done better.  my main focus was the graphics and had never really scripted before. I hope you like it please let me know what you think.
story:
There is a little village atop a mountain that has been plagued with a horrible wind storm during planting season.  There seed carts have been blown away. And they have no seed to plant for the harvest.  A little girl  flower is sent down to the valley to retrieve some seed from an ancient storehouse in a cave.  When she gets there she finds the cave not as accessible as she had hoped. Of coarse she meets all sorts of creatures that can help her if she can help them.

thanks guys! I am really glad to hear you all like my characters.  and maybe I will stick with "flower girl" as a name. at this point nothing else really seems to fit. although flowers really don't have much to do with the plot. the reason I called it flower girl is because the first time I drew the character she had a flower in her hand and I needed a caption for the pic. http://bp3.blogger.com/_Po5KTaJnV94/R-0oOx6JGpI/AAAAAAAAACM/Bt_-ni6U5SQ/s1600-h/flowergirl_final_small.jpg

this was fun, although I drew this instead of working on my game. maybe I will be able to use it later.
