Doing it the other way around worked.

Yep. And I've tried clicking everything and nothing happens.

You must find a little pot and use it in the cauldron to give the potion to Van Der Decken.

I've tried that and nothing happens. 

I'm stuck at the very beginning in the prologue.

I put bone dust and a plant into the cauldron, lit the fire and used the medallion on the cauldron

Now I can't figure out what to do. Any help would be appreciated.
