Hi!

First of let me say that I'd like to help you by writing the music for your game.  I like the story line and the basic idea that you have going and you seem like you're dedicated enough to actually get it done. Here's my website http://blue.butler.edu/~tfrankli/Tony_Franklin_-_Composer/Video_Game_Music.html.

I look forward to working with you on this!  :cheesy:

Contact me via my email listed on my site or of course feel free to use the AGS messaging too.

Look forward to working with you!

I think the first one would look nicer once it's finished, but the second one is more unique. I really like all of the brightness of the first one too.

I liked how the underground part of the thing looked. Very cool designing there. :) The movie was pretty good. I think I would've preferred a monster or two in the movie, but that could just be me. :P

I agree with Ali in that what you guys did really wasn't parody. However, judging by the things listed on this site (which is a pretty good site for this sorta thing) http://fairuse.stanford.edu/Copyright_and_Fair_Use_Overview/chapter9/9-b.html I'd say you're ok. You didn't really use that much of the clip, and you didn't have any bad intent with it (such as wanting to somehow reduce sales or popularity of the group), so you're fine. :)

Just so you know... if you actually did do a parody of a song you could copy quite a bit of the original tune and still be covered under fair use. It's sort of a special case for that sorta thing.

I listened to the new track and the changes make it sound a lot better! :) (not to say it wasn't already good to begin with of course)

I don't want a too old arcadey feeling, just a reminiscence of that. As I said it's a new game and not going after the old style in the graphics or gameplay.
I see. In that case you did a pretty good job of getting that feeling across too. There are some arcade-y elements in the music (like the fact that there is just a melody with not too much accompaniment) to make it feel older, but it has enough modern sounds in there that it feels modern at the same time.

Quote from: Nikolas on Thu 26/05/2011 08:02:04On the comment about sounding older, I'll see, but in the end the quality will be brought down because of size issues... Thus I don't have to worry too much.
Always nice when things work out like that, isn't it? ;D

Nice piece! I really like how the long brass notes with drums in the background make it seem pretty epic. :) I have just a couple of things that I would suggest changing.

I agree with the fact that the first part is too static (since that's the word they've used for it). It isn't that the beginning is bad as a piece of music. I actually really like it. :) However, I don't get the impression that of it being either epic or dramatic once it is the oboe and other instruments (but no brass yet). For me I think the problem might be in the background stuff. You have some motion in the background, but its sorta neutral motion. It isn't quick or slow enough to really affect emotions. My guess would be that if you made the background simpler (more long notes) it would sound more dramatic and/or epic.

Also, I personally don't like the oboe eighth notes in the brass-y epic section. Its not that it sounds bad, but I just feel that it takes away from the epic feel that you have built up all around it. I think you would get the affect you're looking for if you made the oboe a little softer there and had it play 16th notes.

I hope I didn't come across as sounding mean or harsh. These are just my humble suggestions for your piece, feel free to completely ignore them if you like! :P

Overall I think it sounds pretty good, but there are just a few pieces of advice I would offer.

How old sounding do you want this to be? The first section of music sounds like classic arcade music, but once you bring in the more electronic sounding instruments (specifically the drums and background sound effects) it starts sounding too modern. By the end of the piece I almost get the feeling that it is really a modern semi-techno piece instead of a "classic" arcade piece.
To make it have a more arcade-like feel it might be a good idea to have fewer sections in the music. Right now you have about 3 or 4 distinct sections that I can hear. I feel like arcade music really only had 1 or 2 sections in it and it just looped as long as needed. Also it would help if you could actually lower the audio quality too. (after all, in the days of arcade games they didn't have the best sound quality for the music)

Personally I would also like to have the balance fixed just a little so that the melody is slightly louder and the background stuff just a little quieter. At some points the melody is almost completely covered up by the stuff happening in the background.

Hope this feedback helps!  :)

Lets see... It all started when I was coming up with a name to use for Age of Mythology (maybe?) and I was having trouble thinking of something unique and semi-clever. All I knew is that it had to have "13" in it somewhere because that is my favorite number.

I thought about it for about a week. During this week, whenever anyone would ask me about my name, I would say "I don't know. Its going to be something, followed by the number 13."

After awhile I realized, why not just make my name something13?

And thats how my name came to be ;)

Overall, it is a very good song. You did a good job of capturing the general emotions of each part, and your material is good.

Now for the criticism... Personally I feel like the middle section needs to be longer. It is the section with the biggest contrast compared to the other two, so feel free to develop it more. Right now it seems like the middle section is rushed a little.
I also feel that the last section seems to be too sad for what is happening. I understand that it is sad that the blue-eyed girl is leaving, but right now it almost seems like she is dieing. If you want that feeling thats ok (since you could make the argument that when she leaves it is like she is dieing). If you don't, then I would suggest using brighter sounding minor chords and/or using a few less of them.

All in all it is a wonderful piece of music that would definitely work well in either a cutscene or a movie. I had a movie going (on mute) when I listened to your piece and the first part of your song fit the mood of the scene in the movie perfectly :o (it was a touching romantic scene) so good job there :)

It's ok, simple piano music, yet effective. I have a certain taste for the dramatic, so it sounds to me like it lacks that epic feeling, I'd suggest at least adding some reverb on that piano.
Do you have any suggestions as to how I can add something to make it epic, but still keep the same overall feeling of the song?

Critics' Lounge / Song for Critique!!!

This is my first song that I have posted on this critique board. I have written some stuff, but a lot of it has not been looked at by other people, so I am really looking forward to getting some good critique on this. This song is in a video game. It loops whenever the game gets really intense and your character is in danger.

Well here is the link http://shutupload.com/user/20464bf085f212882e812dfc9ecd4d34 Have fun critiquing!  ;D

Music- I can write some good instrumental music for your game. I really enjoy writing music that sounds a little wierd, but I can write normal music too.

Sounds like a suspense filled game. The screenshots look great too. Although in the first screenshot the wall looks a little empty. Any chance of putting windows on it to fill in the space?
