Aaah yeah that Issue IS sweet! I bought it too and it's really worth it. Many of the games I knew, but I found out about some ones I didn't. Real good.

Nothing that fancy. Our engine is called Wintermute Engine. VERY good and solid, specially for 2.5D games.

And keep me posted about it. It would make a wonderful adventure game. I do want to, but I think it's hard to hold a candle to G.K.chesterton's work, even as homage.

I've always thought that A series of unfortunate events would make an awesome adventure game too.

oh if you want to use the outline to base the sprite on it DO go ahead. After all, I did it to help.

When you're lacking reference for how a character should be seen from several sides, Do the following: Check the internet for model sheets for animation. They're golden reference for this kind of character. Do a quick checkup on proportions. You can (of course) vary some of them like the head, or the proportional height of characters. But stuff like Short/long arms and legs stands out easily among other anatomical errors.

A good tip, proportions aside, is to check how the cape drapes around the girl. Use that cape for effect! Capes can look very dynamic done right.

Arms are more like it now. Allow some minutes and I'll make something for you. I think you just need a push in the right direction and having visual reference is always better than words. hold on a bit.

Meet two more of the Diverse Denizens that inhabit the border town of Cog South!



Margot is the quiet, knowledgeable and light hearted eldest orphan. She’s so responsible and loving that Miss Dickens already took her specially under her wing to inherit the orphanage, and gives her private classes in many lady-like topics.

Margot loves to read stories aloud, and dutifully does all hard work at the orphanage such as laundry and cooking. She loves nurturing children and all orphans have a very special place in her heart.



Miranda is the silent and oddball orphan of the bunch. Being a bit shy and unfitting at times, she prefers to speak through her puppet avatars: Akai and Kuroi. Even if she comes off as a strange one, she means no harm.

Actually I like the original better too. It's done by an amazing artist: Christoph Siemens. He's produced some mad  backgrounds for the game. The problem is that to make the 3d characters blend well in that background we would either have to:

1- Use outline shaders or
2- Spend some more time (and moolah) achieving a more refined, outline free coloring of the lineart.

The problem is that the first approach makes our game more taxing on the pc, therefore, reducing the quantity of people that can play it, and the second one just costs more money to develop.

The 3d background has something else going for it. the fact that there is an actual plane as floor, serves well as base for the collision box/walkplane needed when doing this kind of thing.

The sprite is large enough. The first thing I would crit is the fact that her arms are too long. check out those proportions! :)

Not really, It happens pretty quickly, it's not something that happens after a game or so, it happens almost at the onset to get the story going. and she grows further from there. It is important for us to show they won't stay as simple orphans. Not a spoiler at all.

Oh I can recommend the Sam & Max episodes. They start slow, but get good. And you can actually buy both seasons in nice boxes now. I'm eager to play Wallace and Gromit myself. Adventure games that are episodic are a good idea.

Blog or website... nope. The game's website is www.sov.imagineergames.com but it's merely parked space till we release the long trailer by next week hopefully. What is an RSS feed?
