Beginners' Technical Questions / Music trouble
Fri 10/02/2006 10:34:13
Hi all,

I've been having trouble with my music I'm using.

I have a music file, music0.wav, which doesn't seem to work. The manual said music0.wav should start playing when the game loads.

I also tried:
- the play music on room load
- interaction editor commands

I didn't try hand-scripting, but I have the feeling the problem is with the soundcard of my pc (which doesn't play MiDi's anymore), though this is not sure.

Hi,

I'm searching for a way to make a room with some people in which you can name the main character(s) of a game.

One person will talk to the main character, and ask for her name. You, as the player, will be able to give her a premade, or a custom name. How can I get this done? Do I need a GUI or the Text-parser?

Thanks,

Hi all, I'm working on some tilesets for some games of mine, but I think some critisism of others will be needed.

I'll change some colours later, but I need suggestions about the colours I already have, and which details I can add/improve.

So far I added:
- plain ground, 2 colourvariations
- rocks, 2 colour variations
- mushrooms, with and without dots
- flowers
- trees, 1 alive, 1 chopped and 1 lying on the ground
- water and wateredges
- water flowers

I'll wait for your opinion!

Hi all,

I'm asking a lot around (I'm sure of that), and this time I want to know or it is possible to create a savegame style like in the Zelda games.

With this I mean:
- Give your character a (pre-programmed or text parsed) name,
- being able to save in up to 3 slots only,
- Maybe some kind of password security

This may sound strange, but I want to try this out.

Hi all,

I've been using AGS for quite a while, but I can't use the Do Nothing command. I wanted to use this for special occasions, but it doesn't work.
Can someone tell the use of it to me?

Thanks in advance,
Yurina

Hello,

I wanted to ask you people if someone knows which gametypes are supported by AGS. I know Puzzle, Adventure and RPG games are supported, but what about Real Time Strategy, Platform, Action, Turn Based Strategy, etc.?

I'm asking this because I'm not just curioous about this, I plan on making a strategy game. I'm also asking for other game types for other people and maybe future games.

I hope to hear from you soon! ^^

General Discussion / Free game tiles?
Fri 23/12/2005 09:18:28
Hi all!

I'm looking for a site which offers free game tiles.

With tiles I mean those tiles used in a lot of 2D (RPG) games. I already had Ephralon's site (http://ephralon.de), but that's limited to only a bit outdoors and some objects.

Can anyone help me out?

Beginners' Technical Questions / Speech GUI's?
Sun 09/10/2005 16:10:34
Hi!

I'm currently searching for some way to make a speech GUI. I'm aware of the Text window option, but it doesn't work out the way I want it.

I use:
- 16 bit colour depth
- 320x240 as screenresolution
- Sierra Style as gamestyle (because of the portraits)

What I want:
- A speech GUI which also displays the speech portraits of the characters who are talking.
- Multiple portraits per character because of expressions

In a nutshell: I want a variation on the Text Window GUI which supports portraits just like in Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean (3D RPG, GameCube).

Can someone help me out?

Hi!

I'm currently working on a game that has 3 controllable characters. But I was wondering, can I have different characters use the same keyboard keys to move, but only when they're active?

This is the topic where I'm introducing my very first game. It's called Elestian Tales: Bittersweet Sanity. Here's the latest information:

*Genre: Adventure (+ different endings. But besides this it isn't really an RPG)

*(Current) content advisory:
- swearing: none.
- nudity: none
- fighting: none (yet, there may be mild fights in the end.)
- other content: if you don't like to read about blood and strange illness symptons, don't play this game. (These things won't actually be shown.)

*The world I used: Because I'm a fantasy fan, I made a whole world with it's own races. I won't bother you with a whole encyclopedia, don't worry ;). If you don't understand things at first, ask me.

*Main characters: I have 3 main characters of which you can play only one at the moment.
- Maya (17 years old, female): A young, sweet girl who lives in Narliru Village, together with her younger sister, Hannah. She likes to play detective.
- Hannah (10 years old, female): The younger sister of Maya. She's kind of nature and has a wild imagination. In general she likes her sister, but she hates it when nobody believes her.
- Kentah (16 years old, male): Kentah is a medical/white magic student who lives in the inn next to Maya's house. He's got an eye on Maya, but he's too afraid to tell her.

*Main story line:

One day, Hannah saw two strangers talking on the beach to the south of her village. They discussed some kind of plan, using a map. When she tells her story against Maya, Maya didn't believe her sister. Later on, a new disease terrorises Narliru Village. Hannah also gets ill, which makes Maya furious. After Kentah's research they discover that this disease isn't natural. Maya, Hannah and Kentah decide to search for it's creator and the cure of the disease.

What I have made already (now in percentages, estimated by 5%):
- Story: 50-60%
- character sprites: 30%
- backgrounds: 5-10%
- inventory items: 5%
- events: 5%
- GUI's: 95%
- sound: 0-5%
- video's: 0% (maybe I include short anime-like movies, this isn't sure yet... If I make any, I'd only make an intro and (one of the) the end(s).)

*Other information:
- the disease's symptons: throwing up (not the usual stuff, but a mix of blood and genetically manipulated honey), heavy nightmares, fainting at unpredictable moments.

This is all I can tell for the moment...

Hi!

I've got a question: I have inserted room music in two different rooms who are connected to eachother. However, when I walk from the first room into the other, the last played tone of the first rooms' music keeps playing!

Info about the music I used:
music1.mid: 34.4kb, 7:12
music2.mid: 86.0kb, 10:20

Is this because I have an old pc, the music file uses too much memory, or something else?

Please help me out!
