Hints & Tips / Re: 6 Days A Sacrifice
Sat 27/01/2007 18:41:05
Well, as in all Yahtzee games, I got stuck right at the beginning and then played the game through fluently and easily. Though, I wouldn't have been able to write a walkthrough that fast.

And a defect shift key. Crap, we already used up our "allowed dirty word" from the seven dirty words list, so I can't properly insult that guy. Bah.

So we're at a total of 1 entries, right? Shall I do an insane rush to make up a completly bad, buggy and pointless game?

/EDIT: I started to make up kind of an hourgame "just for the hell of it", but all over sudden, my mind returned. So no Turtle Quest. This is how far I got before the mind thing happened.

Okay, to put it in a nutshell:

Programmers/Game Developers = Slaves without any rights
Companies = Vampires
All games today are buggy, expensive and without any innovations. Let's change that.

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Scratchware

As recommended there, I'm spreading the word around. Also, I think this just perfectly fits to AGS - it's free, you (in general) have very low costs to develop an AGS game, you could run commerical with it (theoretically), it supports/encourages 2D graphics... so, what do you think about that "Scratchware" thing?

Taking everything into regard...
Spoiler

The caretaker did not make Chzo's plan a success on the whole. And that doesn't make sense - I mean, he helps Chzo getting his... erm, helps Chzo to get Trilby, but then takes him away again after some time?

And I guess John DeFoe would have been a major problem. There was only one Trilby left, and I think that one could never have stopped John DeFoe from actually rising again. Remember, his mind and desire to kill were left. He would have probably corrupted and killed the whole city above him.

What did Dacabe do... well, he survived the attacks of The Tall Man. Doesn't that show he's better than that guy?

Is it just me or was the only game you really, really, really had to play Trilby's Notes? I mean, okay, you understand a bit more of the plot if you played 5DAS and 7DAS before, but the whole Chzo/Tall Man/Realm/Dungeon stuff was in Trilby's Notes! Alas, the net result after the whole plot:

Spoiler

* John DeFoe is dead now. Really. This time seriously. Totally.
* Chzo has a new servant. And Trilby.
* There now is something like the "caretaker" enforcing destiny's will.
* The realms are, again, seperated and it doesn't look like there will be another bridge soon.

There is one thing I noticed, though, that doesn't seem to fit.

Spoiler

In 5DAS Trilby uses magic twice, if you remember. But, as it seems, that realm he lives in is the "Scientific Realm", isn't it? And in 6DAS, it is said that "the Scientific Realm has not the slightest background magick". Why did the wraith summoning / body tracing work in 5DAS? Or is Trilby living in the "magick realm" and I just didn't get it? How can there be something like the Mephistopheles, then, if it's not the scientific realm?

As far as I know, you cannot directly manipulate the X/Y-coordinates of the text window GUI. Alas, you can use the Display At command.

Quote from: ManualDisplayAt (50,50,100, "This is a message");
will display the message at coordinates 50,50 in a box 100 pixels wide.

Also, the blue cup thing happens if you don't use images for the buttons surrounding your text GUI. To stop that, change the images. Alas, they shouldn't be bigger than about 4x4 pixels; otherwise, the results will be quite... interesting.

Cheap self promotion drawing near! Beep beep beep! Cheap self promotion! Danger! Danger! Danger!

If you liked Uplink, you might also enjoy _Access.  ;D

You're welcome  :)

Everyone makes noob mistakes at the beginning. Also, welcome to the forums!

This scripting command refers to a custom inventory window named "invCustomInv".

You deleted the custom inventory window named "invCustomInv".

You replaced the gui control named "ScrollUpArrow" or something like that.

There is no custom inventory window named "invCustomInv".

The code tries to refer to a custom inventory window named "invCustomInv".

Any clue what went wrong yet?

I don't think you should just strictly follow these x-of-6 rules. The result could be like this:

I mean, it's cute (animal), naughty (stabbing), bizarre (talk stuff), clever (IQ), recongizable (I don't think I need to explain this) and cruel (same here), but still it's not funny (oh please, let this be not funny - it always ends up funny when it should not).

Also, I actually found the first one quite funny, but this probably just is the omnious german humor striking again. The second one, however... you may want to have a look at this.

/EDIT: Now actually with picture.

/EDIT EDIT: Meh, I just discovered leftovers of what I once wanted to turn out as a webcomic someday. Now I know why I never showed this to the public... http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a23/FAMILIAR_QUEST/6-FamiliarQuestgoesHollywood.gif
Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb. 1 out of 6 (strangeness). Difficult-to-follow print. Insaneness. The work of a sick mind.

/EDIT EDIT EDIT: On re-reading, that damn blue-screen comic seems to be actually funny. Don't you dare to laugh about it, though. Don't even smile.

Please swat your face because I can't do it from over here. And mark this thread as "[SOLVED]"  ;)

Well, this is what happens if you put the "else" into the "if" command block thingy.
#1594
Playing through this game has given me way more time to work on my own projects. Why? Because I played Trilby's Notes and this one in a row in a completly dark room and it'll probably be like ten weeks 'till I can sleep again. So I have the whole next 70 nights to work on _Access.

"Sacrifice"? Not what I guessed. But then again, being 'right' is for noobs.  ;D

Whenever someone gets a name wrong, he unleashes a demon which tortures the souls of dead adventure characters  :(
#1597
I'd still guess the last letter was an 's', but yes, with that font, it could also be an 'r' or even a 'c'. 'Sinner', 'Sacrificer' and that stuff seem to be the best guesses, though 'paranoic', 'maniac' or such would match the "distrust chain" (stranger -> skeptic -> paranoic) in the titles. Or it would be something with a "distrust level" between stranger and skeptic. For example, 'someone careful'. No, wait, that's too long.

To avoid confusion, I from now on will to refer everyone else as "Heinz", starting... now.

Heinz, what kind of post was that? Heinz wouldn't be happy to see that happening, as these are his forums, and he doesn't run them to have people like you, Heinz or Heinz spamming.
And Heinz, I think you're right about Heinz's avatar, we need that one back (even though I wasn't there...). Oh, and Heinz, if you get confused about Heinz's and Heinz's avatar, consider yourself lucky Heinz and Heinz aren't using it (although I guess Heinz will in a short while...)

Thanks, but I don't think I deserve the honor to be called a hacker. GIMP doesn't know what to do with the text either. For fullyramblomatic... well, I'm pretty sure I could find something useful if I just hardcore brute force type everything I could think of in the address bar. But, then again, not if there are only a few days left. I could try hunting down the hosting service and try to crack Yahtzee's account, but, then again... nah.

See you on IRC (...when I come to it again...)
