Trying to access a certain fullyramblomatic folder. But I can't seem to manage it.
#1602
Damn, I can't seem to get in that *** folder. And I can't find a search engine valuable for XSS exploit. And I don't know his IP and can't fake it. And Google's locked out, too.

Geez.  >:(

/EDIT: Gaaaah! Die, security, die! AAaaaah! Damn, I have to continue working on _Access in order to learn how to do this. *sigh*

Okay, let's see what GIMP will make of the screenshot.

Orienting at GFW? That's good, but... please, for everything holy there is, do not use that buying/selling system! I mean, how easy would it have been to at least add "You have: XXX" to the selling dialog instead of having to guess around blindly / making notes? And why did the dialog always stop after guessing wrong and trading?

But this is no 'talk about GFW' thread. I hope you will give Mech Gladiators the time (and different title, oh please) it deserves; it could turn out quite good then.

Hm... I downloaded AGS around September 2005, had a general game idea in December 2005, decided to start working around February 2006, decided to get my lazy ass working around Mai 2006, started Juni 2006... and finished somewhen around August 2006.

Hm... the last one definitly is an s. Too bad Yahtzee thought of

-> locking fullyramblomatic.com/6days/ for public access
-> not uploading /title.gif yet  :-\

I'll let The Gimp on this when I come home today.

I'm fooling around with a game that uses keyboard movement (the module), and I have a problem with regions triggering scripted events. I want to have a little cutscene when the player walks onto a region, but the keyboard movement seems to cancel them. Any ideas?

That's strange. What is the exact code of your movement and the cutscene?

EDIT: Oh, and another thing: I have disabled all standard cursors except Interact, and I don't want to use right click to toggle modes. But I do want the look mode to be available on inventory only (I use the standard/demo Inventory GUI). How do I do that? The look-button on the GUI showed up disabled at first, then I managed to enable it, but it still won't change cursor mode when I click it.

Again, what's your code? Does the look-button really just do "mouse.Mode=eModeLookat;"? I guess you left the "override to look like the pointer" code in accidently and just thought the cursor wouldn't change...

Okay, I'll note down everything about Evil Genius that comes to my mind on my trusty Yakumo Delta and start working when _Access is finished. By the way, does nobody know someone who would do the music for _Access? Will I have to use non-licensed music from popular/not-so-popular bands?

[off]I know that "Can't finish a project before starting the next one", too. This has vanished a bit ever since I started using AGS, but in the times before, I had about 4 projects at once at least (for example, Papaya Wars, Metachaos, Maage, Winertia Drive, ... - the names are the only things the public will ever see of them).[/off]

Yes, it's amibitous. Yes, it combines different genres into one game. Impossible? No. Look at http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=586, for one well-executed example. Just one thing I'm curious about: Will the mech-battle be real time or turn-based (which I guess)?
#1609
Jup. You can start asking yourself whether people will actually play this when you're doing that as a job. Then you can ask that question, and you'll most likely get the answer "Why don't you make (game series you invented years ago and hate by now) XXXIV instead? People want to see (g.s.y.i.y.a.a.h.b.n) XXXIV! And buy the Doom (Year²) engine for it! And add lens flare!" and will be forced to do G.S.Y.I.Y.A.A.H.B.N XXXIV instead.

And for this game idea... well, looks like it's not trying to go out and change the world (gah, something at the back of my head keeps shouting "Adventures In The Mech War World: Beyond The Frontier Quest"  ;) Must get rid of these voices... No, Akatosh, don't kill. Killing bad. Don't listen to them. No. BAD thoughts.). But maybe, and just maybe, this will be the opposite to Update Quest: Not original, but great executed. And then, your third game, will both be innovative and well done!

Anyway, as Adven... MECH GLADIATORS will be Freeware, I think I'd play it.
#1610
Great. This leaves me just as wise as before  ;)
#1611
Ah... just perfect. Many thanks! (to you too, Ashen)
#1612
Okay, I'll change the title. But first admit you fell for it  ;D

Well, I haven't tried anything yet; I just browsed the help thing. I know how to do this in C++, but in AGS scripting language...

C++
Code: ags

TStringList *StrL;
StrL = new TStringList;
StrL->LoadFromFile("a.txt");

The ReadRawLineBack seems only to work with one line (or the whole text file at once?), and the ReadStringBack funciton description strongly advises not to use this on text files.
#1613
So, I've got that text file. And I've got that string array. And now, is there any easy way to get the text file's contents in the string array (line one in array[0], line two in array[1],...)?

If no, is there any way at all? If no, is there a plugin which makes this possible?

Thank you for your time.

Seems like no one noticed this, but...

Scroll down, and you'll probably notice a picture and game name familiar to you... well, and a real name not familiar to you.

I still haven't won the P3NIS-award. Maybe this is my cue to re-re-re-re-rerelease Lassi Quest.

I WANT MY GLORY

I haven't ever been interviewed, and nobody knows me anymore.

Who are you? And what is "Lassi Quest"?

(Sorry, I just couldn't resist that one. ;))
#1616
This, of course, leaves me to decide whether to finish _Access first and let this lingering around some time or to immediatly start working on it and freeze _Access.

At the copyright topic thing: In this case, it's extremly nice to live in the Federal Republic Of Germany. We don't even have to specify our copyright with (c), and violations against the "Urheberrecht" as it's called here can be punished with up to five years of sleeping in a nice, comfortable prison bed.  ;D

General Licencse Agreement For All Knollware Entertainment Stuff Try to steal any of my stuff and you'll have to fight the whole german bureaucracy (not nice. trust me). If you are dumbass enough to wound/damage/lose/burn/etc. yourself/your computer/anything else while doing something which could have to do remotedly with Knollware, that's your fault, not ours. Don't try anything. If you want to meet me in front of someone to-be-called "Your Honor", steal something I own instead. Hope you get it. If not, I don't care, either.

Also, background animations can only contain 5 frames, so don't forget that as well.

You can bypass that via placing an object rather than drawing the to-be-animated spot directly on the background. Also, there is no hard coded size limit on sprites, but if I remember the AGS tidbits right, it can't be bigger than the room size or something like that.

Also, AGS does not support lens flare yet (NOOOOOOOOOO!)
#1619
Oh, yeah, I miscalculated. Sorry. I for some reason used 4^4 instead of 4*4  :=

Nice to hear you like the idea (and there actually is someone willing to help me so I won't have to rip the sprites off the The Kingdom of Loathing).

BaRoN - don't worry, I'm the laziest intelligent being in this half of the universe. I think I have a certificate somewhere, but I wasn't able to bother and hang it on my wall.  ;D
