He shouldn't have loaned money from the Don.

An entry? Sure, though I'm not very likely to come through with that  ;D

Your main point is based on a lot of speculation and a couple of Dan Brown novels.

And a book by Michael Moore! Don't forget Micheal Moore  ;D

And your parade got caught in a back-up, sorry :(
#1663
Righto  ;D
No, I don't want hardcore debate. Geez, I'm still using windows, that should show you how "serious" I'm being  ::)
#1664
Could have as well been made up (both the code and the h4XxXxXor thing). And I'm certainly not going to google "Microsoft + hack + windows + source code"  ;D

Come on, I'm not talked into the ground yet!

I heard that all the big antivirus companies actually WRITE viruses! If they protected you against all known and unknown viruses they'd be out of a job! The Empire Never Ended!

Oh wait, I've never heard that at all... Nevermind.

Funny, there was a Dilbert comic about that.
Pointy haired guy: We're going to release Anti-Virus software. What do you think?
Sadistic personal chief: Hm... we're going to release viruses which only our software can spot?
Pointy haired guy: Funny. Exactly what I thought.

I don't understand how people can be lazy and at the same time so dedicated that they'll track every person on the internet and crack all their encryption.

Must... track... person. Connection... jumped... three hundred times... by now. Anonymizer... 256-Bit encryption... so... tired.

Minimum effort is always fine, isn't it?

Quote from: MrColossal on Fri 12/01/2007 16:23:00I also don't think you're entirely serious.
Not entirely  ;D

@EagerMind/ @OK. - Website: Enough computers. If you just use enough, you can even crack that code using TI-84+ calculators. The internet is big. Really big. ONE intelligence service has a CPU power of x. Two have a CPU power of 2x. The USA alone has more than 2 Intelligence Services.

And with the American thing I just meant that your Intelligence Services are more present. And bigger. And have a way bigger budget.

@Adamski: Get out of here, Mr. CIA.  ;D
I just quoted Arthur Miller because every thread needs an Arthur Miller quote IMO   ;D
And no, Hitler and Stalin lost the restaurant to Napoleon Bonaparte lately.
And admit it, you didn't know about chaos magic before.

Google doesn't control a majority of the searches actually, MSN is the biggest search engine, presumably because it's the IE default page for people that don't know how to change it.

There are three kinds of people: The computer noobies. They use windows and search via MSN because they don't know any other search engine. The not-so-noob ones who sometimes still use MSN and sometimes Google, depenend on their skill level. And the pros who either use Google because it's better than MSN or use Google because they hate Microsoft.

Quote from: scotch on Fri 12/01/2007 16:08:35Yes, all marjor search engines log your searches along with your IP, like the AOL ones that they
unfortunately released a while back.

There was an important word. Major.

Quote from: scotch on Fri 12/01/2007 16:08:35If you don't like it don't use a search engine, or browse anonymously via Tor or something similar.

Already using JAP.

Quote from: scotch on Fri 12/01/2007 16:08:35What's your point about skipjack? Who uses skipjack?

Uh... nobody? I just felt like writing that.

Quote from: scotch on Fri 12/01/2007 16:08:35
Also, most internet traffic travels over a few backbones with no encryption. The security agencies can easily tap into that, doesn't matter what google stores so much, so if you're extremely paranoid then yes you should encrypt all your communications.

Humans = lazy. I'm not talking about 100% secure stuff. They tend to give up after a while if you do it right  ;)

Quote from: scotchBut then, some hardcore paranoiacs would suggest that the NSA have magic mathematicians from space that have broken all the publically known algorithms.

You know that Microsoft Joke about god and the Internet? If you stick together enough calculation power you can even crack 128-Bit codes in a reasonable time.

Quote from: scotchThey probably shouldn't use the internet at all.

Yes. I've always wondered why they still do ::)

Geez, will I actually come through with this?
#1667
Yay! Someone believes me!  ;D

Anyway, the Google thing is why I use Alltheweb.com and Metacrawler. Also, did you ever notice Google places cookies without even mentioning it? Oh, they act all "We are the anti-Microsoft", but they're exactly the same. They should form a Goosoft Microgle Company.
#1668
*slaps his face*

No, I'm not yet finished with writing  ;D

You will see...

Oh, and Wargames 2 is going to be the biggest Mindf**k of all times. Terrorists. Uh-huh.

General Discussion / Conspiracy theory thread
Fri 12/01/2007 15:48:03
Just your average conspiration theory thread.

Harmless Section - things found in Wikipedia
Magic Works
You have more than two intelligence services
ECHELON

Think about this...
* George Bush owned an oil company.
* Big companies pay both the Republicans and the Democrats money.
* The Skipjack Encryption Algorithm was designed by an American Intelligence Service.
-> They earn their money via cracking codes.

Stop using Google.
* Nearly all searches today are routed over Google.

Information Control
* Normally people don't bother with any results after page 2.
* The Google company decides in which order the results are displayed.
* In fact, they can even decide whether a site is skipped by the search.

This should ring a bell.

Total observation
* Your search submission does not get encrypted.
* Your IP gets logged.
* Looking up the location of an IP is as easy as eating pie.
* Nearly all Intelligence Services employ Hackers.
* Why should Google bother with making a simple search server a digital fortress?
AND
* The Google bosses are humans.
* Humans like money.
* Intelligence Services have money.

Microsoft is evil - even more so than usual.
* 95% of computer users use windows.
* I guess 98% have it at least installed.
* No-one ever saw Window's source code.
* Microsoft is an American company.
* New windows versions are never ever started from scratch.

And now, how easy would it have been to sneak a little backdoor in, let's say, DOS 1.0? Or even QDOS? They can view YOUR data, and if they didn't throw you in jail by now, then only because they weren't interested in you.

Conspiration Theoretics? LUNATICS!
This is very, very, very serious. Read this carefully, one by one.
* There are extremly few BIG media corporations, and even fewer IMPORTANT ones.
* So if they don't like a certain person, what would hinder the corporation's bosses to start a campaign against that person? This actually happened.
* More than once - that was just an example.

There are actually some novels mentioning this. Even the propaganda scum, pardon, thriller "Digital Fortress" by "Dan Brown" mentions this (as a good thing, though. Propaganda trash, pardon, great thriller.)

Keep this in mind.

Quote from: Arthur Miller: Death of a SalesmanEverybody likes a fool, but no-one lends him money.

* Or: Who would believe a comedian on a serious topic?

Now combine it with the media thing. Make a fool of someone and no-one will ever believe something he says.

Have you ever seen a single serious attempt on talking about conspiration theories?

The overkill are, anyway, these "studies" by "independent experts" that conspiration theoretics are just paranoid. You often hear said counter-arguments, but you never believe them. Why?

I think the "best time" for making a game freeware is when the 4,99â,¬ budget version releases, it lands in the "Pyramid" or a "Green Pepper" version is released.

Or about two weeks before the sequel is released, especially if your game ends with a cliffhanger .

To the 99%-don't-play-thing: Sure you'll loose a lot of potential players via choosing to selling your game instead of releasing it as freeware. But you don't have to go the EA Games (tell them I say hello) way and charge 59.99â,¬ (>60$) for a bug-plagued Battlefield sequel when even Battlefield 2 doesn't work properly (and is still sold for about 49.99â,¬ (>50$)) - that is the best imaginable way of loosing 99% of your potential players.

And then there is the Trackmania producer's (forgot the name) and Introversion Software's way: Releasing great games for a hell cheap price, patching them thrice a month, no matter how minor the issue may be and (in case of Trackmania) even constantly upgrading old games and releasing mostly-usable Trackmania sequels as freeware. I guess way more than, let's say, 50% of those who played any demo/ freeware equivalent to these games will buy a full version. For example, I did that with both Uplink and Defcon (alas, not with Darwinia, bringing my record to 66%), and my grandpa did with Trackmania and Trackmania Sunrise.

Quote from: RuiTell that to the whole wide world.
If I started with these things, I'd have to tell them about stuff like Echelon, The fact Microsoft continued with Palladium, The fact magic actually works and everything else too.

(while we're at it, did you notice you can get to a Nazi-Related Wikipedia article from any other Wikipedia article via just clicking on the links? With less than five clicks?)

Click on the links... fast. I fear the CIA will be here to pick me up soon, and my AK has only 28 shots left  ;)

/EDIT: Or just on my sig's link.

I don't know what you all have against UpdateQuest. In my opinion, it wasn't that bad at all- just way too short and easy!

Just rated and commented Enoworld.

/EDIT: Also rated AWIDT. The worst I've ever played, and that guy actually rated his own game best-possible.

Perhaps you missed something out. I'm stuck at a completly different spot:

Spoiler
Compare the paintings. I can't find a single pixel with a different color and clicking around randomly with the mouse mode 'touch' doesn't help, either.

The Rumpus Room / Re: AGS Questionaire!
Thu 11/01/2007 13:26:45
Name: Akatosh  ;D

Age: 16

Female/male: Male

1. How long have you been involved in the AGS community?

Since about spring 2005.

2. Why did you get involved in AGS?

I played these strange games named 7 Days a Skeptic, Apprentice I and Apprentice II (how I got to them? See that other thread). All three mentioned a strange "AGS" thing in their credits, and I went checking. I quickly discovered the Adventure Gaming Studio was just the thing for me.

3. How do you feel that the fact that AGS is a freeware program affect the community that has built up around it?

I doubt there would be a that great and big community if AGS wasn't freeware.

4. How big a part does the AGS community play in your life?

Well, making games is one of my biggest hobbies, and during holidays I visit the AGS boards up to multiple times a day.

5. Have you been involved in making any games using AGS? You may list them if you want

Koffee Krisis - Episode I, Kristmas Krisis, _Access (being done), Ninja (will never be shown to the world), ThinkTank (same there), BBIC (currently paused).

6. Answer these questions if you have been involved in making AGS games:

a. Were you interested in game design/programming before you started using AGS?

Yup. C++. Borland C++ builder.

b. If no, do you feel that you would have got into game design without AGS?

I don't think I would have gone on with making games without AGS. Before I discovered it I didn't finish a game in 6 months and had several bug-ridden bad game attemps lying around (some of them still are).

c. Do you make games using other programmes, either freeware or not? How does the experience differ?

AGS is great because it actually is dedicated to games.

d. Has AGS inspired you to try and take up game design professionally?

Yup. I actually entered KristmasKrisis in the Gamesload newcomer award... and got 4th  :P

7. Do you feel that there is a gender divide in the AGS community?

If I paid attention to that, I'd probably be able to answer that question.

8. Are you likely to feel differently about a game if you discover it's made by a female? In what way?

Why should I?

9. Do you feel that AGS makes it easier for females to get involved in computer game design? In what way?

No idea.

10. Do you feel that there is a difference between the types of games created by males and females?

Not in Freeware games... but if you look at the game industry you'll notice some differences. You'll never be able to tell if the designer was male or female, but in retrospect (how do you write that ???) and with the knowledge (geez, why do I always want to write knowdoledge?) about the designer's gender you will probably notice some small detail differences.

11. Any other comments?

School starts again on Monday  :'(

I think the ICPs had that weird red glow... but I'd either have to do this:

via e.g. GIMP, which would De-De-Antialias the sprite (antialiased glow) or
per hand, which would take quite a bit of work and mostly likely look like crap.

Let's see if I'll add it...

/EDIT: I just went checking. Byte has a blue glow, but I didn't notice anything on the ICPs...

General Discussion / Re: iphone

Mmh... decent technology...

I have always waited for something like that to come out - I mean, it has only ONE key! Finally we won't have to type all those numbers on a normal handy "keyboard" anymore but can "control everything with our fingers"! That sure is a great progress towards old thumb-controlled handies! Wait... handy... that thing originally had a purpose or something. What was that... calling people? Nooo, impossible, in that case the i"Phone" surely would have keys with numbers on them! The purpose of mobile phones sure was downloading "funny" movies for high prices from the apple database! Not to mention all the jamba ringtones we can buy with that in no time! And ooooh, pointing in a direction with our fingers is far more accurate than scrolling through a menu, especially in a crowded place! Voice control, anyone??

*cough cough cough*

DISCLAIMER: That was meant satirical. And I don't have anything against Apple in general, I just don't dig the idea of this lookie-what-my-4000-â,¬-handy-can-do stuff. In fact, I used a handy without even a display for years. Today, I'm quite happy with my trusty old SIEMENS ME 45 that doesn't even have working internet acces nor a color display. Oh, and  my MP3 player consits of
* Volume Control
* Play
* Power
* Next/Last Track.

It cost me about 15â,¬ (should be about 20$ or so) and I'm quite happy with it.

/EDIT: Wait, how do you make this iPhone call numbers not in any list of yours?  ???

Critics' Lounge / De-Anti-Aliased Tron 2.0 ICP
Wed 10/01/2007 17:06:03

So, what do you think about him?

NOTE: No, I didn't draw this all from scratch. Basically I started off with a very similar picture of a Tron 2.0 ICP - see subject - and in a painful progress resized and deantialiased it (and removed the '.jpeg stain' :P). Also, I've added another defense shield and changed the colors a bit.

/EDIT: Wait, how do you spell "antialaised"? Antialiaised? Antialiased? Antiailiaised? Antialaised?  :P

*cough* MANUAL! *cough*

Seriously, look up "Dialog" and you'll find exactly those questions answered.

And IMO you're right - it doesn't look too horrible - but you should definitly work on it a little. At least the text on the signpost should be a bit centred.
