They had an airplane made of guns shoot guns at a gun-man in a gun landscape once. That was awesome.

I know, I know... it's shit.  :P

NEXT: Some retarded internet meme.

Well, you could make the first grain "item" a GUI button and an own cursor mode...  :P
#624
Same for mine.  ;)

Alright... first of all, thanks for the replies and the encouragement, everybody. You've made an inept artist very happy.  ;)
Now, for the detail...

Just try to improve the outlines, so there's no sudden "bump" or corner in it.

The small bumps and changing sizes are sort of intentional (I used the freehand tool for a reason, mind you!) but I'll see about the corners.

I've always liked your style before, but I think you may have made it better! I'd like to see you use the flash version at least in one game.

Thanks! Chances are I will.  :)

I think you totally got it!

It's just like I imagined when I suggested flash.
(let's use "hello, i'm a newbie" smiley here:  ;D)

Nice!
No way back now!

Paint style had it's own advantages, to be honest. I suggest to either keep sprites small - so they look cute, or start lea(are)ning towards second (skin) shade.

EDIT: Also, mouths rock. Use mouths. Draw mouths. The weirder, the funnier.
"Worms!"-style hands are pretty cool too.

First of all, whee, I got something right!  ;)

The sprites themselves haven't really changed in size, apart from the full-screen cutscene thingmabobs, so don't worry. I'll see what I can do about hands, mouths, and shading.

Nice bubbly hands for the evil german fella.

I know with your style, you usually don't put bubble hands on your characters.. but YOU SHOULD! :P hehe

More bubbly hands it is, then.

Oh no!

I'm seeing coming a new wave of Akatosh easygraphic games!!! xD

No, the style seems improved, but is need to be how fit this in a 680x640 resolution as much... 'cause in 320x240 the outlines could be very Biig.

Mmm, have you thinked to use the floating hands in the walkcycle, as many flash games? It could be cool

Akatosh.EasyGraphicsâ,,¢, please.  ;)

Anyway. Don't worry, I've been using 640x400 (or 640x480) since I my first AGS game, and I'm not planning to change it. As stated before, I'll look into using the bubbly hands, but I'm not quite sure where to put them in the walkcycle.

BTW, how do these images count as huge? Does most of the people here run there computere solution at 640x480?

I kid though. haha Looks great Akatosh. Too bad there is no vector engine within AGS. It'd be great to be able to create a totally flexible game using vector game assets outside of flash. :D Vector is the future!

Thanks for the encouragement, and yeah, vector graphics are pretty goddamn awesome. About the images... well, they're not exactly small, and I've suffered massive brain damage during the years I was stuck with 56K, which means I'm always overestimating loading times now.  :P

Again, thanks for the kind (and quick!) replies and the encouragement. It's definitly Flash from now on.   :)

Better suggestion, but still nuh-uh;)

Following some ancient advice by InCreator, I've tried to make a few sketches in Flash, using only (well... mainly) the freehand pencil.

A redo of the splash screen of Cheerful Science's intro.

The characters from the same game.

Uh... yeah... I got nothing.

So... any comments? Worth continuing this way, or is it back to MSPaint?

First of all, hello and welcome to the forums.  :)

Secondly, you might want to register an account so you can post in the appropiate forum areas. Once you do, you can post your idea here (if you just want help so you can do it yourself), here (if you just want to share it) or here (if you just want feedback). Good luck!

I'm downloading the free trial. Let's see what they've got there.

"This game is available in North, South and Central America only."

"We're sorry. Our Systems indicate you are outside the territory authorized for distribution by the software publisher of this title.

Unfortunately, we do not have permissions from the publisher to sell this title outside of our approved territory."

Well, if they don't want my money, it's their fault.

It's at times like this I wish I lived in Scotland. And interested in a carrer in gaming. :(

Then again, approaching the representatives of serious companies and handing them Me Go Store as a "work sample" just to see the look on their faces might be worth the travel.  :=

I'm not all too happy with the looks of the character in the second screenshot (especially the "smooth" scaling), but on the overall, this seems like a potentially neat game. Not sure if it will be Epic, but it does seem to have at least some potential.

Also, m0ds in your team = instant win.  ;)

You don't need to be completely strict, people rarely are in retro theme games, because it's a bit tedious making graphics for the actual system restrictions

So mind if I ignore the Gameboy's limit of 40 sprites maximum at a time? It's being a real, genuine pain in the ass...

Googling "LimpingFish" returns about 10 pages of hits split between me or him (mostly me).

Try googling "Akatosh".  :P

Alllright...

First of all, congratulations on starting your first AGS project without it being a fan sequel to Monkey Island, and welcome to the forums. The story doesn't sound too mind-blowingly innovative, but it's a solid start, and depending on the "predicament" he finds himself in, it might just do. Same is true for the theme tune and the player character: Nothing outstanding, but solid.

Now, the backgrounds... eh. Are those real in-game screenshots, with varying resolutions and everything? It's fine to give rooms different "sizes" by surrounding them with black, but you shouldn't go over the top with that (scrnshot2.png is fine, scrnshot-1.png is not, unless you want stuff to appear in the huge black area later on). Also, that wallpaper in the second screenshot... do not, I repeat, DO NOT use solid black lines like that. It hurts the eyes. (Coming to think of it, you might want to remove the vertical lines on the wallpaper entirely). And did you draw that background in a smaller resolution and resized it in Paint? If yes... don't. I made that mistake, too, and it's just... no. Don't. Coming to think of it... was that first screenshot bigger originally and you resized it to make it smaller? What resolution IS your game running at, anyway?

That's it for now. I hope that helped, and you're not too discouraged now.  ;)

This is starting to feel like the climax of Act One of the AGS Forums Opera. Kudos, and let's hope this turns out to be one of these vomit-inducingly happy plays!
