Black Flames:Ã,  Path of Methias (first-playable alpha):
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Okay, I know it is extreemly buggy already, but all the bugs are fixable eventually.Ã,  This is my RPG, or, at least, my RPG's first playable alpha.Ã,  It currently only barely introduces the storyline, and shows you how the system will work.
Features:
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Bird's eye view
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Turn-based battle system with multiple character interface (currently two playable characters)
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Working shop
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Array of items/weapons
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Ability to share items with party members by clicking on them with the given item, while maintaining that every character has their own inventory.
Bugs you should know about:
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Save/Load gui does NOT work yet, use instead F5 (save) and F7 (load).Ã,  The "quit" button on the save/load gui does work.
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Game does not auto-quit when you reach the end of the demo, you should quit when you receive the teleport option to Avadelphia (you don't have to, but nothing else interesting happens)
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, FOR CHEATING EYES ONLY (pressing F9 will result in healing the current character)
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, Items "lobster", "raw sushi", and "shrimps" are incorrectly sized, and will therefore appear x2 their size (sorry)

Anyway, I would like anyone interested to test it out, and tell me any (other) bugs they find, and their suggestions on the gameplay/battle system.

The story:
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, You play as Methias Brokke, a young man who finds his life devastated after a Galarian attack on his small village.Ã,  (now for things not in the demo):Ã,  Methias, along with Everaldi, a tall, quick-thinking elf, Jadam, a Fepleus (chaos sower), and Christeen, a young Xiasian woman fight against the powers of the Dark Flame god's son, Demal Acknutauk, a demon born into the world of men.Ã,  Will Methias be able to defeat this demon, or will he find it in his best interest to join him?Ã,  You decide.

Story:Ã,  30%
Code Basis:Ã,  91%
Playable:Ã,  14%

Create the gui for save/load/quit, then make the interaction on your Icon bar button:
g(name of save/load/quit gui).Visible = true;

Beginners' Technical Questions / Re: Dialogs

You mean the dialog options, I assume?  Check the "General Settings" pane in the editor.  I believe that there is a tickable box "Use gui for dialog options".  You could use that.

Hehe, funny evil.  Did you make it?  If you did, it would look better if you cut the hookah, invert the colors so that black background and white letters show, and then reinsert the hookah.

No, there are about four playable characters.  Sorry, any other solutions?

I have a game.  The camera is located at a bird's eye view point, therefore, all characters are visible only from the top.  I am having this problem, I do not know how to alter their baseline and blocking range in way that will allow them to move around regularly, but not stand on top of one another all the time as they do at present.

General Discussion / Re: Nightmares of Old

I, when I dream, dream either of very unpleasant things (getting in trouble at school and then at home, getting in trouble at home for stuff I didn't do, etc) or the things that are very pleasant.  I will tell you the truth about my dreams now, the ones I truly fear, are the very pleasant ones.  Do you know why?  Maybe you can relate, and maybe you cannot.  Either way, I will describe my feelings about them.  Do you know what it's like?  Waking up after something so wonderful that you can hardly stand the fact that it was not real.  Have you ever woken and wanted to go back to sleep not because of your weariness, but because you want to return to the beauty of the dream?  I have.  The greatest nightmares are those that don't bother you until after you wake... yes... those are the bad ones...

It's not related to drugs, just stewie really, and it's not YOUR mother, it's supposedly stewie talking to HIS mother.  Don't you watch Family Guy?

General Discussion / My anti-drug

I've noticed that many spinoffs of the "anti-drug" campaign have been surfacing lately, so I decided to add my two cents.Ã,  Here's my anti-drug:

(btw, JxTx is the signature I use at school, stands for my first and last names)

I'll do that, thanks for the input so far.

Here, it is finished.Ã,  I scrapped it together rather quickly.Ã,  It is very basic, and very adaptable, if, of course, you take the time to understand it.Ã,  The file itself is a test "game".Ã,  It is one room, two roger's standing in it.Ã,  (Your the roger that's off the walkable area).Ã,  You can sell items to the shopkeeper by clicking on him with them (a "do you really want to sell" gui or keypress can be added easily) and you can talk to the shopkeeper to access his shop, where three items are available.Ã,  You understand, of course, that this "game" is far from glamorous, has horribly drawn everthing, but beautiful coding within.Ã,
Ã,  Ã,  Ã, The system itself is ListBox based, and you could probably change it up rather easily.  As far as adding it to an existing game, you'd have to export the ListBox that controls the shop, and copy the code out, maybe even export the shopkeeper character.  This won't take too long.Ã,  Anyway, without further staling, here's my entry:

Ahh, I see now.  I found my error, it seems I left off not only a ";", but a whole closing bracket.  :-[  I really should look over my scrips more carefully.  Thank you.

Runtime Error:Ã,  unexpected eof

Ã,  Ã,  Ã, I have gotten this error many a time now, and have always been able to tinker with my scrips until it goes away, but it is getting harder to get around, so I need to know exactly what it is, and what in scripts causes it.

General Discussion / Paint.NET
Sat 03/12/2005 03:35:06
Has anyone tried Paint.NET?  I found it when surfing Wikipedia.  It is soo cool.  It has almost every feature a basic photoshop has, along with a freelance, open-source liscense, and it's free!  I'm messing around with it now, and I am loving it.  If you don't have it, at least try it.  Does anyone else have it?  And if so, have you used it in your games?
#739
It was no problem.

Platypus (shoot-em-up) had all it's graphics done with plastacine models and looked really unique.

On the can't draw side, I don't give a toss about graphics, (see my games), I can't really draw but I am getting better with practice. For me AGS is Adventure Game Studio, not 'look how good I am at drawing' Studio. If it's an Adventure I'll play it, in a way the graphics can detract from the game, removing the players imagination, and ultimatly greatly slowing down the development time. Everyone nowadays is TV brain dead, and judge everything on appearance basically because we all know what real life looks like and can easily say good or bad visually. If your game is strong enough to get the player 'into' it, immerse into the story and just be there, the graphics serve very little purpose. The brain fills in all the gaps.
Personally I despair at the critics lounge and games production threads and their obsessiveness with graphics/walk cycles/perspective/lighting. I could go on but don't wish to 'rock the boat'.
Graphics should be functional and stlylistic, setting an atmosphere,Ã,  they are the packaging not the content.
