I'm talking about the format. I have no shortage of ideas, I just need to figure out how to get them on paper properly.

I think Kubrick described the screenplay as "the least expressive form of writing in existence" (paraphrased). Writing's not easy, and there's no computer program that will make it so.

There are however many resources that will tell you the format for screenplays, including the link in my previous post. Here it is again, more specifically:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/scriptsmart/screenplay.pdf

It even tells you how to have two characters talking over one another, plus speaking in foreign languages.

I enjoyed the Myst games. But I enjoy playing MindTrap, too...

I love Mindtrap and Myst! Once I went through the whole set of cards solving every one (except the maths-based ones).

But any old word processor is fine - final draft just makes it easier. Guidelines for formatting a screenplay can be found here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/scriptsmart/formats.shtml

As well as a plug-in (I think) that makes aids writing screenplays in Microsoft Word.

I think fawlful really ought to be given a break, this is a very nice sprite!

I'd be surprised if there's an AGSer who hasn't tried imitating the pros in order to improve their artwork. I know I've tried to draw CMI's LeChuck before.

The only thing I'd suggest is making that teal outline darker, so it's less noticeable, or much lighter so it's clearly an ethereal glow.

If it would help you, I have maps for the IF Zork games, and walkthroughs. I'd suggest you match the atmosphere of Zork Nemesis rather than Inquisitor - it's the best Zork game I've played by far. The humour was much darker and underplayed.

No one thinks It's a wonderful life is too serious for christmas day TV, but it has a very similar premise to your game. I think your story would only become really miserable if you got the bad ending.

REVENGE of THE SITH

I suspect...

REVENGE of the SCRIPT

...will prove a more accurate title.

No amount of special effects can save us from it:

Inkoddi, you shouldn't let wildlife into your PC.

My lack of a camera means that none of you get to see my AST 7001 Advantage series PC with Windows 95 preinstalled. Oh yeah.

Blade Runner ... was advertised as "the first realtime 3d adventure" and while certain elements of it seemed to be so, it really wasn't.Ã,

I think they were using clever wordspinning. The graphics were pre-rendered 3D and the gameplay occured in realtime - characters moving around locations independently and so on.

I'm not sure it was intended to mislead. My Space Quest IV box says "Amazing 3d graphics!" - it's true Roger does walk left and right AND up and down.

I disagree:

The idea of human nature is something of a construct
The idea that it's concrete often goes unchallenged

Poems don't have to rhyme.

Here's my entry, a triumph of slight tiredness over my ability to do anything worthwhile.

Entry withdrawn because I'm going away and will miss the end of the contest.

*Laughs at DGMcphee*

flinnt, you started by making a sensible suggestion that a game featuring racist characters should have a warning. Entering into a slanging match with DG Macphee has only made your argument look silly.

Take for example Walt Disney's Song of the South...
There is nothing wrong with it. And yet the film is banned

I had no idea that film was banned! I saw part of it on TV a couple of days ago (BBC gor' bless). Weren't you concerned by the rose tinted portrayal of the master-servant/white-black relations Potch? Perhaps if I'd seen the whole film I would have felt differently.

I'm in the same boat as you and your sister Haddas, on the 4 front.
#2776
Thanks, but I can't win, I won't have internet access around the 14th.

Plus I moderate this contest, so it could be seen as a conflict of interest.

Most importantly, many other entries are much better. Eggie's spiggot is darn fine, for example.

???ali is that sirecasm or do you really mean it

It wasn't sarcasm, but is was barefaced lying. Don't worry, just ignore me and look carefully at Dragonrose's post and the description of the Photoshop Challenge at the beginning of the thread.

So here's my entry:

I think the Handiest GUI I've ever come across was Lure of the Temptress

I didn't like Lure of the Temptress's GUI at all I'm afraid it was over complicated. The only GUI worse than it was the one in that classic of classics Return to Zork. But that game allowed you to throw all of your inventory into a river.

I'm also not a particular fan of the status line except for comedy purposes, as Bagpuss pointed out.

And when Bagpuss goes to sleep ... All his friends take his stuff

I think the most important thing is to make the interface intuitive. A freeware game called TeenAgent has the right mouse button as activate/talk and it feels really unnatural.

England sucks.
...
Lousy weather, nanny state interference, expensive goods, high taxes, Tony Blair... the list goes on.

I don't know... I hate England as much as the next man, but as a non-drinker, non-smoker, non-luxury-item-enjoying second-hand-clothes-purchasing student the taxes don't bother me that much.

Plus the weather's great.

Glad you enjoyed your trip Eggie, but it always baffles me when people talk up American politeness. What's wrong with being generally unfriendly towards people you don't know?

Ah, England's the country for me.
