640x480? The screenshot looks widescreen. Either way, perhaps Unity allows 640x to play fullscreen on modern devices more flexibly than AGS?
#662
Probably because Unity offers more flexible resolutions and easy portability to Mac / iOS / Android?

It looks nice, but I can't understand why people keep coming back to the Scumm GUI.

I'm afraid I don't think video games have had a Citizen Kane, certainly not adventure games.

Perhaps that's because the impact of Kane is to do with its impact on film critics and theorists. People for whom the 'is it art' question hadn't been relevant since cinema was a sideshow attraction. I don't think there's a parallel for video games yet, as popular and mainstream as they are. There are no influential groups of intellectuals taking mainstream video games seriously in that way.

I'm not saying that an adventure game isn't or couldn't be equally good. I love Grim Fandango and Myst (well, Riven). It's a question of cultural impact and status. People who haven't seen Citizen Kane still know it's a great film. People who haven't played Grim Fandango, haven't heard of Grim Fandango.

I genuinely struggle to understand what you're saying. But you do seem to have a lot of confidence in your viewpoint.

I do not know what being killed has to do with being smart, knowledgeable, and having a just cause.

I don't know what 'being smart, knowledgeable, and having a just cause' has to do with what I said. To dismiss the protesters as idiots is facile and tasteless.

I didn't say he was part of a clandestine organisation. But Morsi having achieved a small majority doesn't justify his exclusion of secular groups from power. Especially since the protests which ousted Mubarak owed so much to them.

You're talking about the Egyptian people as if they were children who got what they asked for and then changed their minds. I think that is a naive perspective when there are people being killed on the streets.

I also find it a bit weird that you've edited your original post.

My bad. Add professional mike holders to the list  But still, couple grips would sure come in handy on a documentary set, right? (laugh)

Oh yeah, stuff always needs gripping! But the costs for the documentary were very clearly set out in the original pitch. In fact it was a key selling point which might even have paid for itself in terms of the extra pledges it brought in.

I agree with Ilyich. With creative people like Tim Shafer we're always asking 'why won't the publishers/producers just throw money at them and then leave them alone to do their stuff?' I think we should try here and see if it works.

Grips don't hold mics.
#669
I agree. Gribbler is seriously underestimating the amount of time that goes into documentary making.

Documentaries are really intensive, even beyond shooting. They produce masses of material. All of that material has to be watched, annotated, possibly transcribed, then sequenced. That takes time and money.

Somehow they actually democratically elected someone to rule them, who I have been told was generally honest with his all his intentions and beliefs, and he is overthrown by a military coup, and one of the old officials from two years ago is put in charge.

So basically everyone thought they could rule better than the original rulers, but apparently it did not turn too well.

I think you take a naive view. Where have you heard that Morsi was 'generally honest with all his intentions and beliefs'? Secular Egyptians accuse him of being aggressively divisive in his pursuit of an Islamist agenda.

But I agree with biclotti that, as much as I might dislike the Muslim Brotherhood, the ousting of an elected leader by the military is a very worrying sign. We talk about Egypt as if it's undergone two revolutions in as many years, but I wonder how far the power has ever shifted away from the military establishment.

It's preferable for me to deal with Kickstarter backers, because it's easier to keep track of reward fulfilment and updates that way. On the other hand, PayPal fees are slightly less than Kickstarter fees, so it's not a tragedy if someone switches.

Here's hoping CW finds a way to make it work!

Congratulations, Ali! It deserved to go much higher

I know, right?!

That looks really, really, really good.

Sorry for the double post, but my campaign just finished with a respectable £20,450 including PayPal backers. Thanks to all the AGSers who backed and plugged the campaign.

I'm keeping the PayPal option open for two weeks for 'Slacker Backers', and I'll open up Pre-orders after that:

Thanks again!

This used to happen to me on an old computer. I put it down to general slowness...

You know, the anti-gay attitude isn't always related to religion. Some researchers just see homosexuality as a genetic abnormality like polydactyly or Downs syndrome (since people were biologically intended to procreate, they believe same-sex attraction to be counter-evolutionary).

That might be true, but it's no grounds for a moral objection to homosexuality or gay marriage.

I'd be shocked to hear anyone objecting to gay marriage on those grounds who wasn't also religious. If you're against things which are counter-evolutionary, you really ought to object to condoms. Remind me, which group is it that usually objects to homosexuals and condoms?

@SarahLiz: Thanks for backing!

@AGD2: Thank you for the plug! How nice! And congratulations on your uber-successful campaign.

@Monsieur OUXX: Good suggestion, I'll make it as clear as I can when the hammer falls!

EDIT: And now we're into the last 24 hours!

Maybe 'filter' is not particularly helpful either, from a player's perspective.

Bearing in mind that AGS doesn't really support any high resolutions, taking away low resolutions would leave no resolutions at all.

If low-res was in some way hindering HD, then there might be an argument for dropping it. But in reality it would be a step backwards to lose low resolutions.
#679
Thanks guys.

You might be right selmiak. Once again I suffer for being self-employed and not knowing anything about real jobs. We're considering leaving the PayPal option open for a little while after the campaign ends, in case a lot of wealthy relatives die over the weekend.

We just hit out funding goal this morning! Thanks for all the AGS-love that went into that achievement.

We have 4 and a half days to focus on Stretch Goals, so please keep up he relentless plugging of the game and the hassling of friends and family. Hassle them, I say!
