I hate making a post for this... but...

Some of you may remember before I left for Iraq, that I released a trailer for the unfortunately beyond my control deleted game Sky Tower Rescue. I was wondering, by some off chance that one of you may have it floating around on your hard drive.

I'd like to have it back :). Just another thing to add to my website, and maybe with enough prodding from people I may try to start it again (I'd have to find the damn RTP files again though).

Anyone if anyone has Skytower Rescue could you gimme a link or something, I kinda wanna see it again (and if it was as good as I thought it was when I released it).

Thanks

So due to a misfortunate misread on my part, my new mobo isn't compatable with my processor, and since the processor is more expensive than the MoBo, I decided to get a new one of those...

the issue, is now finding a MoBo that fits the specs...

The issue stems from the fact that the MoBo I purchased works for Celeron D, not Pentium D (which is what I have) I just saw the D and well, anyway....

So this is what I need... PCI-Ex16 X 1, 4-240pin DDR RAM, at least 2 PCI (3 prefered), Able to handle DVD-ROM, CD-ROM and 2 HDD's (all IDE), ATX,Ã,  and SLI would be nice, but not a nessesity (my vid card has the SLI chip with it, which I'd like to use, but if I can't find it, I'd rather have the whole computer working), finally an Intel motherboard capable of using the Pentium D 930 processor WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY A LOWER PROCESSOR JUST TO BOOT IT AND FLASH THE BIOS TO HANDLE PENT D 930....

Most of my research so far has brought up boards that need to have a lower grade proc put in it first so you can flash the bios to handle the pentium D 9XX series chips. Well unfortunately I don't have a lower chip I can place into the board so it really needs to be able to use the pent D 9XX right out of the box...

I'm reasearching more myself, but I figured if someone else out there knew of one that could let me know... It's really frustrating that a simple misread caused me all this trouble.

Thanks

EDIT: Ok nevermind.... I looked at my processor reviews and most people highly recomend http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813131589 <--- that mobo... and I looked at the specs and it will work for what I need.... sorry to have bothered you all

Ok so I've been working on my webpage off and on for months now... and at first I went with a entire table page, and after putting in all the information, I realized that most my pages had WAAAAY too much info on them, so I had to break them down, and the only way for it to look presentable in this form was to use frames (yeah yeah groan... I know, but deal with it). This also helps with the fact that I do have limited bandwith, and the big page (like the header with all the graphic buttons) only has to load once.

This leaves the problem with robots, since I have my sidebars and header, and footer page set for noindex and follow, leaving the main content pages, which while indexed, will probably show up in a webpage, and when clicked won't show the header and sidebar for the easy navigation part...

I found a solution for orphaned pages such as these works like this...

The Orphan Page
Code: ags
<script language="javascript">
passpage = document.URL
if (top.location == self.location)
top.location.href="http://www.yelloweyedstudio.com/master.html?" + passpage
</script>

The master.html page
Code: ags
origURL = parent.document.URL
contentURL = origURL.substring(origURL.indexOf('?')+1, origURL.length)
checkURL = contentURL.substring(contentURL.indexOf('m')+2, contentURL.indexOf('m')+5)

if (checkURL == "MUD"){
Ã,  sideURL = 'http://www.yelloweyedstudio.com/MUD/mud_sidebar.html'
Ã,  innerCols = '250, *'
}
else if (checkURL == "pro"){
Ã,  sideURL = 'http://www.yelloweyedstudio.com/projects/projects_sidebar.html'
Ã,  innerCols = '183, *'
}
else if (checkURL == "cam"){
Ã,  sideURL = 'http://www.yelloweyedstudio.com/campaign/campaign_sidebar.html'
Ã,  innerCols = '250, *'
}

document.write('<frameset framespacing="0" border="0" frameborder="0" rows="189,*,35" ID="outer"><frame name="top" scrolling="no" resize="auto" target="contents" marginwidth="3" marginheight="0" src="header.html" noresize><frameset cols="183,*" ID="inner"><frame name="contents" target="main" marginwidth="3" marginheight="0" scrolling="auto" noresize src="' + sideURL + '"><frame name="main" scrolling="auto" marginwidth="3" marginheight="0" src="' + contentURL + '"></frameset><frame name="bottom" scrolling="no" noresize target="contents" marginwidth="3" marginheight="0" src="footer.html">')
parent.inner.cols= innerCols

Basically, the master page checks to see what subfolder it is in, then sets the inner column width, and loads the correct sidebar, then places the accessed page into the content window...

It just doesn't seem very... elegant, and it places a long url like
http://www.yelloweyedstudio.com/master.html?http://www.yelloweyedstudio.com/MUD/mud.html

Which plays havoc on bookmarking... Does anyone know a better way, something with as little scripting as we have here, but less... Obtrusive... And yes I know I can cut down the URL to just the MUD/mud.html, but it still presents the same problem.

So what I have is something that works, but doesn't work as nice as I'd prefer... so if you have any other suggestions... let me know.

Yes I am now in the UK... I have a house that I move into on thursday... but jeez I can't decide on an ISP, so now I ask for your help....

So far NTL seems my best bet... both Phone and TV for 32.99 a month (this is in pounds, I have no clue how to do the symbol), BT is a close second but since it's DSL and my distance from the exchange I can only pull about 512K down, and since I need the 20GB download plan (26.99/month) + the 11/month for the phone line comes to 37.99....

The only thing is I still have to call NTL to verify they have service in my area...

The biggest selling point is the unlimited access which Pipex offers at 17.99/month, Talk Talk at 29.99/month  and UKOnline 19.99/month NTL is unlimited as well...

I've been looking around on the net for an hour, and once I know for sure if NTL is available then I'll have a better look...

But anyway what do you use/suggest

FYI I'm considered to be in postal code PE28 4DA if that helps.

Thanks

General Discussion / Personal questions :)
Sat 28/01/2006 07:02:02
Ok, I've been absent again, but if you remember I'm moving again, this time to the UK... been really busy.

I have some questions kinda personal in nature, however to be sure I don't break any forum rules I'd like someone that lives in the UK to PM me. Not personal as I'm afraid to share it, but it may have some adult themes that may not be suitable for all audiences :). (wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more) It revolves around alternate relationships.

In the US you can, if you have the nerve, walk up to a random girl on the street, after making eye contact, or even just if you find her attractive, and start talking to her, attempting to get a phone number or what have you. Does it work the same in the UK? I would assume it would, but it may be different.

Like I said, there are more questions, but they revolve around the first part of this post.

Also, I'ld like to thank all of the UK folks that have helped me out already and answered the questions I have had to this point. With my move only a month away it's eased my mind and gave me an idea of what to expect.

So, please, if you would PM me so I can ask my questions :). The reason I ask here is one of the few message boards I frequent that has a high concentration of UK people.

Thanks again.

Critics' Lounge / Wire frame C&C (perspective)
Sat 12/11/2005 07:14:37
Ok, doing as I usually do, and building a wire frame of the room before I actually create it I came up with this. My main concern isÃ,  the drawers making sure they are in perspective... since they are technically the same size... I've always had issues with things that are supposed to be the same, and makeing them realistically smaller as you get farther from the POV. So anyway, advice would be appreciated.

So I've been looking over different companies, and I was mostly disappointed with the abysmal 2mb DSL speeds, with limited monthly usage,  for the same price I'm paying now for 6MB cable speeds, with unlimited usage... But then I found a cable broadband, which would have been nice had it not been for the 3 pense a minute charge for using it (for me about 1296 pounds a month, sheesh).

So what do you use for your phone/TV/internet needs? I want to make sure I make a smart informed decision when I get there.

Critics' Lounge / Suggestion for wood panels
Tue 08/11/2005 17:50:22
So I'm working on a room background, where the walls are wood paneling... and I started to do wood grain... but to make it takes a long time per panel...

Is it really needed though... as you can see its only the first few panels on the left the rest is flat... Just wanted opinions on should I add the wood paneling or just don't worry about it.

And don't worry about the black, that's actually where the GUI sits. So anyway

This suggestion came to me when trying to map the arrow keys to the gui arrow keys for my game, which is in first person view.

Being OO as I am I tried this first

Code: ags

if (gUpbutton.Visible == true && keycode == 372){
    gUpbutton.Controls[0].AsButton.Click();
  }

Which of course doesn't work, because Click doesn't exist. I can work around it by calling

ButtonUp_Click(gUpbutton.Controls[0], eMouseLeft);

EDIT: It seems I'll have to adjust where my functions lie because the ButtonUp_Click function is after the on key press function... which is really a pain so the button.click is still my best bet :)

Now... we could add something like Click(int mouseButton) just so the correct mouse button is passed, but thats for you to decide.

I'm sure other interesting things could be come up with for other gui controls, but I can't think of any off the top of my head right now...

Thanks :)

Getting reaquainted with AGS, I made myself a GUI which has the mode button bar on bottom, and the inventory on the left side, and to make it nice and pretty put a border around the area where the action takes place. This gui is full screen.

Well because my GUI is clickable, I can't interact with the hotspots that are under it, even though the GUI is designed to have the viewable part of the room visable.

There are 2 work arounds, one which won't work for what I need, which is to change the clickablity in repeat_ex depending on the xy coords of the mouse. However due to how I have things set up, that doesn't work because if you can move the view downwards, when you move the mouse over that part it changes the mode from what you want to the move down mode...

The second is more obvious and that is to make 4 seperate GUI's.

The second one will work better than my first work around, however, it really seems pointless to create 4 gui's when I only really need one. And thus my suggestion.

Would it be possible to let something like a mask to be imported to create a "clickable area" for a gui, or something similar.

Ok I know the prices and what not, but my little info packet, and the tv licencing webpage didn't answer this for me... and FYI I'm moving to the UK sometime in march, so I'm not arbitrarily asking.

I understand if I have a television, computer with a broadcast card, vcr, dvd recorder, basically anything that can recieve a television signal, then I need a license.

I understand for a color licence the price is currently 121 pounds, and I understand it covers everyone living in the household, but does it cover every device in the house, or do I have to have more than one license for each device.

IE: I have 2 televisions (one for me, one for my kids) and a VCR, my computer doesn't have a broadcast card so I'm not worried about that. So my question is, am I paying 121 pounds, or am I paying 363 pounds for 2 televisions and a VCR?

My wife is freaking out about the move, and is generally in a really pissy mood because of reading that if we live off base we will have to send her to a off post school, she'd have to wear a uniform, so on and so forth...

So if you would please let me know, because my first instincts is to say it covers every device in the home, because 242 pounds because you like to watch tapes and TV seems like a ton of cash.

Maybe you remember, maybe you don't, but I was here quite some time ago, then this little thing called an Iraq deployment kinda took me away from here. And when I got back I kinda forgot about this little place.

Until I went through my old storage folders and found AGS tucked away in there.

And now I'm back! Maybe I'll get to work on Skytower Rescue again.

Oh, and I'm moving to the UK in March, so maybe I can even make a Mittens or something :)

Anyway, welcome me back, I'm sure you missed me!

General Discussion / Good News/Bad News
Tue 21/12/2004 17:59:31
Yes I know you were all interested in Skytower Rescue... but I have some good news and bad news... the good news is... I am still working on it... the bad news is, I have to start over...

Looks like my wife never updated my virus scan and did checks on my box while I was gone... my machine was so riddled.... well put it this way... I had to burn the entire box to get rid of them all... which means I lost all of my AGS stuff.. including my art... I would have backed up the art on CD's however, the virus's found their way on the burned CD's as well... so I lost everything... so basically I'm starting over from scratch... which means... well it will be awhile...

But hey... at least I'm home....

General Discussion / Video Cards
Tue 30/11/2004 10:50:50
Ok guys... As a gift to myself for being in Iraq for a year, I am upgrading my computer, I've already bought the 512 stick (bringing me to my max of 1gig memory for this motherboard), The new HDD, the wireless keyboard and mouse, last thing to purchase is the Video card...

To start, I decided if I'm going to upgrade, I'm going to upgrade big, so I'm going with a 256MB card. Since I'm not much on keeping up with hardware I've been doing some research, looking at comparisions on the web and what not...and the ATI 9800 Series cards look to be the overall best (on all those fun comparisoins I've been looking through)

The TX is the best out of the 9800 a bit better than the Pro, which is better than the 128...

I plan on going for the Pro, being that its about a hundred dollards (or a bit more) cheaper than the TX (TX runs about 500+ dollars) the Pro is about 375-425 (that I've found)....

Anyway if you want look up these cards and let me know if you know of any other 256 cards out there of comparable (or cheaper) with the same abilities....

Thanks y'all

It is a conspiricy I tell you!

3 days ago I go to come to the forum.... and the big Websense banner pops up and says the cataglory
"Games" is not allowed...

Sure they could have filtered out the download page... but to kill the forums off from me as well!!! The horror (In case you wonder why I am here now, once a week we work the internet cafe which doesn't have it blocked)...

the army is trying to suck the life out of me! But anyway....

I'm not around for that reason... and I had so many wonderful things to show you (like the unveiling of my new logo) but that will wait for next time...

July 5th at 12:41 pm Pacific time, my son, Nikolas Alynn Favier was brought into the world, weigning in at 8.5 pounds and 20.5 inches in length...

Mommy and Baby are doing fine, I just wish I could be there with them... but I'm in a war zone... so I will have to wait 6 months or so before I get to see him in the flesh.

But regardless, virtual cigars for all.... Smoke all you want, they are free, and don't cause cancer...
