The award should be a red herring!

Does the midi play fine normally

It sounds as if the stopnote command isn't registering OR (my mind escapes me at the moment for the name of this one) the command that works like a piano pedal (makes a note play longer without having to hold down the key) turns on and never turns off...

At first when you were talking about CTRLX to move rooms, I was figuring it was the latter, and all midi commands aren't instantly ended when you change rooms that way. I remember a long time ago where AGS didn't turn of all midi commands when music changed which caused the same situation you are describing, but that was fixed well over 2 years ago.

So I guess my question is, does it happen randomly in the middle of one song, or does it happen if the music happens to change at some point?

Thanks SSH, looks like the nearest hobbycrafts is nearly 50 miles away :(. But I found a stateside company that can ship it too me (with all the tools) for less than what it would cost at the other store with all the same items.

So I apprecate the help but I now have what I need.

And for those intersted https://www.misterart.com/

Bah I just found out they mail the clay by USPS, which means I can't get it here, I can have it sent directly to my house but thats 157 dollars for worldwide shipping...

Looks like I'll have to find another art supply store. :(

Well I thought about it, and thought about it, and thought about it. And I finally decided to at least TRY to make a stop motion claymation type AGS game.

I looked around and for the price Van Aken clay is considered the best for amaturish projects (or schools or whatever).

I heard of NewPlast which is the clay used with the Wallice and Grommit movies, but I have a feeling it's probably way more expensive than Van Aken.

Anyway I found a store here (just type in Van Aken at the search bar) which has tons of colors. However you can make your own colors by dropping the clay into boiling water and mixing them that way (oil based clay, so it doesn't mix with the water, I think you just use the water to keep it from sticking to the pan).

I know I'll need greed, red, blue, yellow, orange, white, back, and probably fleshtone. Mostly it will just the the characters in clay, I plan on using the D&D models and things I already have for furniture (and probably some of my daughters things too heh).

Well do you have any other colors that you think I should get as well. I'm not looking on spending hundreds of dollars on items, I want just enough to be able to work with it. Also, do you think 1 pound of each color should be enough?

Also do you know of an art supply place that is cheaper, I mean $2.37 per pound of clay is a good price, but anytime you can get stuff fer cheaper it's always better.

My idea is to create a backdrop and use my digital camera to take pictures of the characters to make the walk animations, and pictures of the individual rooms. Which will probably be made out of cardboard. (I have a bunch of large shoeboxes that could easily become the stage for the rooms. If anything it will be a fun exercise in clay animation, something I've always wanted to do, but never got to try.

Hrm... already mentioned but bubbles from the instrument. maybe make the background a bit more distorted, as if you were viewing through water.

Do you have any music playing/editing programs open, Windows media, midi editors, winamp.

Many of these programs "block" sound from AGS (because near as I can figure, AGS checks to see if the sound card is currently bound to other programs, and if it is, it disables sound.

I know that if I have Anvil studio open, AGS won't play midi music, because Anvil binds itself to the sound card's midi synth (and actually if you have an AGS game open, Anvil tells you that the midi synth is in use by something else).

For all those quesitons about the last area...

Spoiler
The main point is to input as many commands as possible, even if you can't actually move. Each time you do seems to increase a counter, eventually you will no longer be able to talk, at this point just input as many commands as possible (Get Idol for instance). Eventually Trilby will say the only thing keeping him alive was his own will. That's when you can finally die.

Do you mean how do you post up your game for others to play, or are you actually asking us how to get AGS to make a game.

If it is the former, then find a webspace, or beg someone with a webspace to upload it to the internet, then post the link for all to enjoy.

If it is the latter go to http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk and click download AGS. Read the manual start your work and when you finish, follow the directions above.

Lastly, if you already did download AGS, and want us to tell you how to use it. Then you need to stop, read the manual, and learn. We will not make your game fore you, but we will try to help if you get stuck on something difficult, everything else is mostly covered in the beginners FAQ.

Note: The overuse of smilies is just bad form, and most people won't take you seriously.

Or just an option to set the colors... (I haven't looked at this jsut putting this in)

Lightning.SetOuterColor(int color)
Lightning.SetInnerColor(int color)
Lightning.SingleLine(bool singleLine)

Then they can set it to whatever they want. Normally uses the Inner color if singleLine is true, if not uses inner and outer colors.

I sense a war brewing...

SSH, You, Me, Roger, and a bunch of random letters have a date.

Actually, maybe I shouldn't use the word date. Roger might get excited.

Actually I look forward to playing Acro once in awhile, I played it all the time in Iraq, but for some reason the site I used to play it on doesn't work on my home computer (most likely because I have higher secruity).

Believe me, I used to win all the time, because I'm odd.

Actually sorry about that... went poking around...

Aparently my virus scanner blocks certain ports as well, and wouldn't you know it, it has 3 rules by default blocked

Block email worms
Block incoming IRC traffic (6666-6669)
Block outgoing IRC traffic (6666-6669)

Which is why my firewall never saw it, it wasn't getting to the firewall because my virus scanner was blocking it...

Good god I have some redundant systems..

But thanks for that Hajo...

Except for the fact that I keep getting Software caused connection abort, on ports 6666-6669, 6660-6665 are giving me connection refused, along with port 7000.

Oddly enough I checked my firewall, and there are no settings blocking those ports, and when logging all mIRC traffic, it sees all the connection attempts  for the ones that are refused, but for the ports with the software cause connection abort, they never reach my firewall to be logged. It's like they aren't even trying to leave mIRC let alone my computer...

so uh, whomever is running the server, can you open port 7000 so I can connect?

Actually I just had a thought, could the fact that I don't have mIRC registered have anything to do with it...

I finally got my old AGS game fixed and back to me, and when I tried to view it I recieved the expected errors of needing to recompile, not having a global script, my gui's not working... Nearly all my sprites were in 2 folders instead of the 5 or 6 I had them in origionally... Again, probably a process of getting them back... That isn't a big deal... The interesting one is the error.

(paraphrased)
"There are some orphaned sprites, but they can not be recovered because you have too many sprites in the main folder"

Ok well what that said to me is, we have some sprites that aren't viewable right now, but we can't recover them until you clear out some sprites on your main file.

However in order to do this I would have to move them around and save again. My question is, will those orphaned sprites be then overwritten, since they are no longer in the editor? I haven't done the recompile of the rooms or anything, and I lost quite a bit of sprites (but luckily enough, I seem to have every one of my character sprites, which was the important part), I just don't want to lose anymore if I can help it.

I'm sure there has been one or two of you that has had to do this... and maybe you know the answer, or maybe this is a CJ issue... dunno...

Thanks in advance.

Naw, I don't need to win the lottery anymore, I just have to wait on that huge amount of cash to come into my account from that African country.

Bah SSH You remember everyting :P

Ok well for those that care http://www.yelloweyedstudio.com/data/STR.zip

Oh and one per customer please, I don't need you guys eating all my bandwith :P

It doesn't work quite the same way it did when I first released it... I have no idea why, but I dunno, it still makes me laugh. Or you can just say, it sucks don't bother, and I wont...

But thanks SSH and Gilbot... I'll just have to wait for the big man to see my humble plea.

As some of you may remember, I started an AGS game like 2 years ago, and was able to release a demo just before I spent a year in Iraq, and when I got back, found my computer riddles with viruses, since my wife didnt remember to run the scanner and updater... Which meant I had to comepletely format the whole computer, I lost everything...

Well I finally found the old SkyTower Rescue compiled game, and I seem to remmeber someone mentioning about a reverse compiler or something. I'd really like to get my graphics out of it, and if I could get the whole game out it would be even better. Frankly I watched the game again, and it cracks me up... and I decided it would be a shame to let it die if there is a way to revive it.

Thanks :)
