Where I am moving is RAF Alconbury which is near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire.

Somewhere in that area anyway.

And yeah, from what I have been reading, they have people with detectors that sense the electromagnetic field a TV gives off, if they point it at your house, and you have a TV on, and they check the database for your address, and you aren't in it...

Well your screwed... 1000 pounds which is somewhere around 1800 USD

Well technically I don't need one until I get a multisys VCR or a converter, since my NTSC sets won't pick up PAL signal. I'm currently looking around for alternitives... Because basically AFN (Armed Forces Network) blows chunks.

this is of course if we do have to live off post, in the off chance that housing is available on post then I don't have to worry about it.

I also gotta look around and see what internet access is available... it's going to really blow going from my 6MB cable line to a 2MB DSL (or worse) line for around the same amount of money.

Yeah, doesn't matter if you watch it or not still gotta pay (another thing my wife is peeved about). I'm trying to figure out a way to soften it, hell, I should have just gone to germany... less crap to deal with, she's already mad at me for the whole pet situation...

Oh well...

Ok I know the prices and what not, but my little info packet, and the tv licencing webpage didn't answer this for me... and FYI I'm moving to the UK sometime in march, so I'm not arbitrarily asking.

I understand if I have a television, computer with a broadcast card, vcr, dvd recorder, basically anything that can recieve a television signal, then I need a license.

I understand for a color licence the price is currently 121 pounds, and I understand it covers everyone living in the household, but does it cover every device in the house, or do I have to have more than one license for each device.

IE: I have 2 televisions (one for me, one for my kids) and a VCR, my computer doesn't have a broadcast card so I'm not worried about that. So my question is, am I paying 121 pounds, or am I paying 363 pounds for 2 televisions and a VCR?

My wife is freaking out about the move, and is generally in a really pissy mood because of reading that if we live off base we will have to send her to a off post school, she'd have to wear a uniform, so on and so forth...

So if you would please let me know, because my first instincts is to say it covers every device in the home, because 242 pounds because you like to watch tapes and TV seems like a ton of cash.

I own a licenced copy of RMXP (the newest version) many of the problems she describes are issues with the older engines.

While the old interfaces still exist in XP the core of the thing is ruby scripting, so you can go in and edit and change whatever you want, in fact you can forgo the front end completely and do the whole thing in ruby...

Also, the older verisons expect things to be in certain folders and so on and so forth, which is true with XP, however you can package the whole game together (much like AGS does). How the older versions worked is it looked for the file, if it was an RTP file (run time package, think of it as default graphics) it would look for the default rtp folder, if that folder didn't exist, it would throw an error... if it was a game file (imported into the game) and it wasn't there, or named wrong (because of people changing the file name but not in the engine) it would throw an error.

It also comes from the "illegal" nature of 95 2k and 2k3, these were never released in english, others hacked it and translated it, others wanted to get more maps, or add some other functionality to the program so they hacked it again to gain more variables or switches (booleans).

On top of it for some reason the community is very wary of each other, on top of trying to cut down on bandwith usage of their free sites (many use geosh*tties) they don't include the run time executable, for viruses and to make the download smaller.

Another advantage of XP is the higher resolution, and no longer are you limited to 256 colors (although technically it was 256 colors per graphics sheet, you could have millions of colors).

The only one I use now is RMXP, Enterbrain finally translated it into english, and you can get it at download.com... it is reasonably priced at 60 USD. The only reason I haven't done anything with the program is I haven't had time to learn Ruby.

Being a veteran of that scene and one step away from admin on a RM website, I have a good knowledge of the whole thing...

Hope that was informitive

He probably didn't have to go through that many names to see me. After all, A starts the alphabet.

But yeah, it's good to be back... finally downloaded the 2.7 version. Gonna start mucking about and see what I can figure out... Then maybe I can go help out again in the beginners tech forums... and maybe even make a game again... after I get my webpage up again anyway.

Actually I didn't see much of anything... Just ran from mortars, and fixed computers (my job). I was actually trying to figure out an AGS spin to the deployment, but all in all, it wasn't all that interesting.

Except for the following theory: The attractiveness of females becomes exponentially greater in reference to the number of months spent in Iraq.

Example: A female who is currently a 2 the first month of the deployment.
At month 2 she is now a 4, month 3 she is now an 8, and month four a 16.

Well, seems to be a scripting problem I've found on it, the game crashes, so maybe not, but after letting the swami guy know where the cat was, getting rid of the first demon, and having the clown demon in the pentagram, any actions on the lady that is hypnotized at the park causes a crash.

Just thought I'd point that out.

Maybe you remember, maybe you don't, but I was here quite some time ago, then this little thing called an Iraq deployment kinda took me away from here. And when I got back I kinda forgot about this little place.

Until I went through my old storage folders and found AGS tucked away in there.

And now I'm back! Maybe I'll get to work on Skytower Rescue again.

Oh, and I'm moving to the UK in March, so maybe I can even make a Mittens or something :)

Anyway, welcome me back, I'm sure you missed me!

The most important inventions of all time are the toilet and toilet paper...

Think about what we would have to do if we didn't have those two things in our lives...

BTW F8 is better for your computer and avoids any kind of data corruption...

basically... just as your POST screen is going off... slap the shit out of that F8 Key

Well, the good thing, this allows me to change how I'm doing things... I'm getting away from the whole Sierra Gui thing. Going with a single click interface with a one line inventory at the bottom of the screen. Already did the cursor icons.. and coded up the rep_ex to change the cursor depending on what you are over... just gotta get the fonts I want loaded up and I can start with the artwork again...

which involves emailing my friends and seeing if they still have the sprites and things I sent them for critiques

MAC = POS

Seriously, I wouldn't touch a mac if my life depended on it... They are only good for one thing and one thing only, heavy graphic/video editing... other than that they blow.

Sounds like someone needs parantal controls... also, would be a good idea to admin pass your bios, and do a search for some reghacks... we had an internet cafe in Iraq, and we reghacked the hell out of it so that normal users couldn't do shit... and since they were limited (they couldn't even open Explorer to see the file system) we had the undo reghack on the admin side... so log in as admin, undo the hacks, do what needs to be done, merge the hacks back in, reboot the machine...

But you know... thats up to you :P

Yes I know you were all interested in Skytower Rescue... but I have some good news and bad news... the good news is... I am still working on it... the bad news is, I have to start over...

Looks like my wife never updated my virus scan and did checks on my box while I was gone... my machine was so riddled.... well put it this way... I had to burn the entire box to get rid of them all... which means I lost all of my AGS stuff.. including my art... I would have backed up the art on CD's however, the virus's found their way on the burned CD's as well... so I lost everything... so basically I'm starting over from scratch... which means... well it will be awhile...

But hey... at least I'm home....

Actually I was lucky enough to have never had to fire a shot... oh... and BTW... I'm home... coming to you live from Washington State....

Do you know how good it felt to get a good long hot shower (in Iraq you can only have one of those three at a time)

BTW... comeing home from deployment sex... is THE best sex. :D
