Ok, darkened the jawlines on all of them and added a gutter and downspouts to the building.

They aren't shaded for a reason, I decided to forgo shading completely and just go for a flat style, because all my attempts and decent shading turned out shit. That and it takes me over 50 colors which is what I want to limit all the characters to.

And frankly Andail, had I the talent to do anything remotely like you just did there I would have done so. Also your edit had 70 colors in it, the game is only 256 colors, and 70 just for one character is too much. However, you are right about the posture, I've been toying with it, but nothing really turns out right. I may just have to do with the flat side view like I first thought of doing instead of going with this 3/4 view.

Bottom line is, I suck, and I know I suck, which is why I've limited myself to 256 colors and low res, which gives me a chance to leave out the details that I tend to want to add and add and add and it turns out crap. And even then, people think it looks like crap.

Bah, forget it, I just have no talent for this sort of thing.

The origional thread that started this all is here. However, it was getting crowded, and I was going to delete the old and unused sprites off my webserver so here we go.

I finished with the last character, now I have the full front views (well except for the sitting guy) of the 7 characters for the game, I kinda dread animating the guy on the right, I have enough trouble with arms and legs, let alone a walker.

Anyway whatcha think?

Also, just because I did finish this, and figured what the hell, the title screen.

General Discussion / Need Advice? Ask Alynn!
Sun 13/05/2007 09:20:47
Ok, this is really a shameless plug, but on another website I have an advice column. The premise is that of advice columns such as Dear Abbey, however with my own twist on things.

I'll answer any question you have on anything.
I will answer your question how I see fit, you may ask which type of dog best suits you, and I may answer on how you should get a cat instead.
I reserve the right to make fun of you if you ask something stupid. Or if your question is full of horribly bad grammar and spelling.

All in all, it's gone over pretty well on the website, with a decently steady flow of questions coming in, however the website has a smallish community, and with that, a smallish selection of advice given.

So that being said, I invite you to Ask Alynn: Welcome to Ask Alynn to read from the very beginning, or just Ask Alynn: Mom Mums Memory Money to read the latest entry. You can use the navigation buttons at the bottom of each entry to navigate the difference postings.

If you have any questions send them to askalynn@skytowergames.com, I never post email addresses, and all I really ask is that you give yourself a moniker like they do on Dear Abbey to keep questions asked anonymous. However, I don't alter the body of your email, I keep all your spelling and grammar errors in place, so any personal information you give out there will remain in tact, I do however, do some formatting changes for readability.

All in all, its just in good fun, and it's something I've been doing for people on that site for awhile with it not being a column, but with it's recent reconstruction I made it into a full fledged site feature.

Anyway, thanks for reading.

While not so much transgender fetish myself, but something equivilant is Futanari, which is the hentai version of girls with penises.

There are different flavors (sort to speak) but the ones that get me are the normal girls that can grow a penis and have their way with other girls.

But as far as Tgirls go, when they look like women, and not men dressed as women I find them attractive. So it really all depends on how womanish they look.

Otay, another update, yeah I know, it's been awhile... First off, used a darkish purple for the background... now the characters really seem to stand out, which I guess is a good thing but anyway it should help some...

Next, I added a new character to the line up.

General Discussion / Re: Lurkers

I'd just like to point out something...

If you have a lurker post, they at that point, stop being a lurker and become a poster, which instantly nullifies their reason for posting to begin with, and therefore making them a liar at the exact moment they push the post button.

Either that or I just think too much about the universe and stuff.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Turrets

But the whole point of the retractable barrel is to localize the recoil to the barrel itself and not affect the housing, or in this case, the mount holding it to the ceiling. If you were to have a hydrolic mount to absorb the recoil, you'd have no need for the retractable barrel.

With the turret, on the recoil, the smaller piece would retract faster than the back piece until a certain point, then the secondary portion will recoil at just about the same speed as the first part, they will then both expand to normal at just about the same speed.

Here is an example of what I mean

Ok, I adjusted the details a bit on the big men, changed it to just 2 colors for thier shirts, and I do like how they finished up. I've also moved the head of the doctor down a pixel or two. And now I introduce the newest character.  I've included a chair so it doesn't look like he is just floating there in limbo.

His far arm I couldn't really get right no matter how hard I tried, it's probably most likely the angle he is sitting at, and I've just realized while posting this that from that angle he should most likely have some sort of nose... anyway here we go.

Ok in an attempt to try to work with the saturation problem (and taking some of Ben's things into consideration... The desatuation thing I tried with a desat layer over my origional, the darker version just used darker versions of the same color on the palatte I'm using... so that all said I give you this..

Ok, and quick add... I do appreciate the paintovers, but I won't use them as is, I want to do this on my own steam as it were, so while Ben your redo was great, I personally don't have that kind of skill presently, so I'm working with what I have on my own. I take ideas from them, and do those ideas the best I can, with what I currently have.

Ok, here we goes again

Steve, Yeah I see what you mean, I'll work on that later once I get the whole cast done and decide if I need to combine more colors, for some reason I just favor brighter colors.

Anyway, 32 colors here, includes 4 of the 7 characters. The two big guys should have more defined arms, but any attempt I made to give definition between the forearms and the biceps tended to look wrong, so I scrapped that completely, and just had the indention from the top of the forearm to where it meets the wrist.

Anyway, for more character goodness...

Ok updated again (check 2 posts up)

I realized after others said it that yeah, I made him a bit chubby, so I thinned him out some, flattened out his feet in the front view, and made the robe sleaves a bit wider (after noticing how big they are on my wife's robe).

I see what you mean with the feet, but his pants are baggy.  Tomorrow I'll move them back a pixel and see how it looks.

Oh and sparky, what makes you think he's at home muhahahahah! Sorry :P

If Dr. Who's Tardis is destroyed, then rebuilt, is it then called a Retardis?

What did one lesbian frog say to the other?  "Hey! They're right, we do taste like chicken."

He's not supposed to be very old, just old his 60's give or take. I'll see if I can wrinkle him up some, and work on the arms a bit, and try with the solid shading. Thanks for the advice.

EDIT:

OK, I lenghtened the arms, gave a bit of definition to the hands in the front view, salt and peppered up his hair a bit, and added head wrinkles (only place I could really put them) and did a preliminary sideview. Let me know what you think.

The one thing I can see is I may have to adjust his feet in the front view, flatten them a bit to match the side view a bit more.

Ok, well some of you may know that my artistic ability is... somewhat limited. So instead of fighting it, I decided to go ahead and try a 320X200 game, with 256 colors. Perhaps by starting small I'll gain the skills needed to come up with something decent in larger resolutions. So I finished a front view of what will be the main character (probably), so I'd like some critiques. Grand total 12 colors, 13 if you count transparancy.

I tried making his arms a little longer at first, but it just didn't look right (made him seem as if he had monkey arms).

Anyways, thanks in advance.

Noise never bothered me, between where it sits in my desk (closable drawer muffles alot of the noise), the television, and the kids, you don't notice it anyway. Hell my wife's computer sits out in the open and you don't notice it. And power, well who cares :P. All in my opinion of course :D

Thanks for that Yak. With only an average of about 18% loss of performace between all those tests, it probably won't be enough that I'll notice, and it will still be a massive improvement over what I currently have so I'll go ahead and save myself 200 dollars now, and SLI in a year or three. The only thing now is I'll have to look up a new PSU that has 4 PCIE power leads, since the GTX takes 2 of them.

Anyway my wish list is updated, click the link at the top again to see the new specs. All that is really left is to add the OS to the list and then buy it... oooooh, I'm giddy

Hey, double post I know, but it's been 2 days with no reply.

Has anyone seen any comparisons between the GTS in SLI v. single GTX? I've been searching, but nothing for these two configurations. The reason I'm asking is because if the difference isn't huge, I'll probably go with just the GTX and SLI them in a year or two when I upgrade.

Most comparisons are the 320MB GTS in SLI with single GTX's. If you see one or know of a URL with one, could you let me know...

Thanks.

Sound isn't an issue, my current sound card (X-Fi) will come out of my current computer and move into the new one. The Motherboard was chosen for it's capability to handle quadcore, which I will be upgrading in probably 2-3 years, this is actually a newer model Mobo because the one I had before (an ASUS) wasn't on the list to have a BIOS flash for Quad Core support. And I have a Big Typhoon for the CPU, although I may just keep it in the package as much of the stuff I'm looking at really points that the stock cooler does the job because of the relitively coolness of the CPU itself.

The case unfortunately is the best one out of all the full towers I was looking at. After building my wife's mid tower I realize that I really like the elbow room of a full tower case.

Generally when I build, I don't just build for now, I build to easy upgrading in 2-3 years to keep the machine somewhat up to speed for another 2-3 years.

Honestly, I did look at the GTX, but I decided that running the GTS in SLI is what I want to go with, since running the GTX in SLI is well, a bit over what I want to spend (I set a personal limit of 2500 dollars, for no other reason then to keep me from going really crazy, I tend to overbuild)

Finally, I didn't find alot of DDR3 compatable Mobo's, but I figured the FSB upgrade would help in many respects (currently running a 533FSB so I effectively doubled my FSB).

I'll consider the GTX though, it'd save me about 200 dollars, and I can always SLI the bad boy in a year or two. but looking at where the heat pipes are located it may be a tight/impossible fit. Then again, the cards I'm getting might be tight anyway.

Ok, that werks for me, and yeah XP SP2 it is, I was doing my best to keep my compulsions to a minimum on buying it, since I really don't need it. Also, if this helps you any, I don't overclock and tweak, I find it's just easier, less of a hassle, and if you are running them at what they are rated for, they last longer (a poofing CPU and loss of 500 bucks just isn't my cup of tea).

Hey all,
I think I've finally decided on my newest computer build. If I keep looking I'll probably decide to change things again...

However, I'd like some feedback on what I have here, just to make sure I'm not missing anything. The last thing I need to decide is if I want to Vista or not, if I do, I will get another 2 gb of RAM. But to be honest, I'd probably be better off with an OEM XP copy for another 80 bucks.

Anyway I'd appreciate comments.

Here's the link.
