Messages - Alynn

July 5th at 12:41 pm Pacific time, my son, Nikolas Alynn Favier was brought into the world, weigning in at 8.5 pounds and 20.5 inches in length...

Mommy and Baby are doing fine, I just wish I could be there with them... but I'm in a war zone... so I will have to wait 6 months or so before I get to see him in the flesh.

But regardless, virtual cigars for all.... Smoke all you want, they are free, and don't cause cancer...

on_key_press already exists in the global script... you need to place your code in that function... not create a new function called on_key_press

I played a demo of Beyond Good and Evil... it looks sweet as hell, and was fun to play... I'll have to go get that too... I dunno if I should for PC or for my PS 2 though

They have that game for 10 bucks at Wal-Mart (US department store) and I haven't bought it cuz I havent heard a damn thing about it... but I think when I get back from Iraq I'll go out to get it... sounds fun... GORE!!!!

You adjust her breasts... I'm not going to touch them.... ewwww old boobs! (sorry I just couldn't resist)

Actually I had a thought like this... an external file that you can build your own function library... something that all games you make can use. It could save time coping and pasting from previous games into your global script...

Just a thought mind you... but it could be very useful

I have no idea what's going on.

Well, I was a frequent member of a RM2K website and staffmemeber as a midi maker... Then someone posted on the forum about a game over at Gaming World called 5days a stranger by Yahtzee...

Anyway I played it, and remembered how much fun I had with kings quest and space quest and all those games... when I found it was made on AGS I got it and downloaded it... when i found it had its own scripting language I got to work (rm2k is all click based scripting)... I program for a living, and as a hobby, so I was amazed on how fast I was at scripting things, even not knowing the scripting language at all... anything I didn't know how to do I searched the manual... I think I asked like 2 or 3 questions on the beginners tech and boom... been here since then... and that game is STILL in production... interupted on account of war :P...

I love that I can use that as an excuse....

EDIT: I remembered the name!!!

General Discussion / Re: Beard and long hair!
Mon 28/06/2004 17:47:37
Never with the long hair, but before the military I did have the beard... I'd shave it all sorts of ways... from the reverse goatee, to the whole amish beard thing... but now I'm in the army, and all I can have is sideburns that go "no lower than the bottom most part of the opening in the ear" (quote from the regulation)...

But I shall have it back, the ladies love it....

Thanks guys... nice that it is abandonware (which is what I was hoping for actually) only problem is, the damned webfilter they have here in Iraq won't let me get to the webpage :(

I had a version of it long ago, but it wasn't very good... everytime you picked up the box on your porch the game reset, I never figured out if it was the game or the computer (it was some old POS my mom had), but I figured I have nothing better to do here in Iraq... might as well find that game...

Thanks again...

Ok, I don't have a bunch of info to go off of, just my memory, and I'm damn near 27, so alzheimers is setting in...

Ok, it was an adventure game... and it had the artwork of that guy that did the Alien artwork and stage stuff (from the movies), and Jon Davis' mic stand (lead singer of Korn) I remember there is a scene of an alien getting injected into a dudes head...

I wanna find that game again... so if you can help... I'd appreciate it...

Truely the easiest way to do this is to either raise the baseline of the cabinet, and place the baseline of the glasses under it... (eventhough it was said a bunch of times I like to be redundant)

There is nothing quite like posting a demo, and having people say it's the best thing ever.

Amen... I'm actually glad I got a really good response for Skytower Rescue, it made me want to finish it even more... and I will once I get back from Iraq. And many people were mad because they had to wait over a year for me to even get to working on it again...

But in the end, its all about what you want. I am not making my game because I want people to worship me as a game maker, I know it wont happen... But I'm doing it for me, I will pull no punches, because this is not only a game I want to make, its one I want to play.

In the end some will hate it, some will be OK with it, and some will enjoy it... Thats the nature of making something that you will share with others... In the end its not what THEY say about it, its what you believe about your work... even if you are proud of it, if it bombs in the community, its still something you can be proud of...

Strange... When you downloaded the SDK and installed it it should have placed the JRE files as well, did it give you the option to install the plugins for IE and all that... If not you may have to go out and get the JRE, which I know asks you if you want to install the java plugins for IE (and whatever else you happen to have)

UPS at least has insurance.

So does the USPS 2 dollars for 100 dollars worth of stuff... thats decent if you ask me...

Besides USPS is the only way I can get a damn thing out here in Iraq... UPS doesn't deliver...

WaitKey doesn't wait indefinately... Unless you set it for some ungodly high number (like I said I have it set for 24000 right now for the graphic overlay to make sure the player has enough time to read the thing espeically for the slow readers out there) or unless I missed reading this, if you set it negitive it runs forever...

Yeah Scorp, thats basically what I did in my game (with a few added things to turn off the game timer for my pause script)

Hey... yeah I know there is work arounds... but damnit... I'm all about making others do the work :P

I'm sorry, don't put me in the hole again...

Then again, the hole is probably nicer than here in Iraq...

Maybe I missed this, but since it's been 2.5 months I've been AGSless because of being in Iraq, here is something that I could use in my game, and I'm sure it could be used on others...

WaitUntilMousePressed(int MouseButton);
WaitUntilKeyPressed(int KeyNumber);

It should be obvious, but these functions will block the game until the appropriate mouse button is pressed, or the correct key is pressed. This would be great for pausing the game (which I have coded in with the on_keypress function, but this could be a much easier way to do it), as well as when you read a note right now I have it setup with a graphic overlay with a 10 minute wait for a mouse, click to remove it...
This way instead of setting it up that way I could just have the game wait until the player clicks the mouse to remove the overlay.

In my mind (however empty it may be), it should be fairly easy to implement... but then again, I don't know the source ;)
