THe thing about underage drinking... one wise ass once said (and it may have even been me)...

"It's only illegal if you get caught."

If you drink and you are underage, and you are doing it quietly at your house or someone elses... the odds of you getting in trouble are just about nil... however, in a public park, with a huge bottle of Jack Daniels in your hand, while yelling obsinities at children, will most likely get you canned...

So anyway...

Wow... Gimp is gonna take some work to learn to use, at least with any amount of proficiency...

BTW, if you want to see an example of what I have done using iDraw please check out: http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?board=4;action=display;threadid=9487&start=0 in the Critics part of the Forum.

I am usually super critical of my own stuff (I hate just about everything I do) so I like to get others opinions...

Thanks ya'll for your resposes :)

My biggest problem is using preexisting sprites and graphics from an RPG based game editor... If I end up using the defaults everything becomes super large (a normal 320X240 room could easily be two fully stocked floors). I guess maybe I need someone to edit my sprites and make them bigger.

Actually, I guess the biggest problem is indoors, because as far as I can see, the trees and what not of the forest looks good. Unfortunately most the game will happen indoors, especially once the skytower is entered. Would possibly lowering the vanishing point for the indoor rooms give me better luck? (consider the largest character sprite being 24X32)

Also, I'm trying to learn gimp some (exercise in insanity presently) to maybe work things a bit better.

thanks for the opinions and feedback.

EDIT: Also, in the RM2K world... most things are oversized (think cutsy anime) so the desk and what not are correct for the world. The trees used in the forest are normally 32X32 pixels, I just resized them to make them a bit more realistic.

EDIT2: Actually after a bit more playing, the computer and desk is very large (the frontward desk is taller than the character. makes it more like a bookshelf... I'll have to go with making them no taller than 18 pixels at 100% zoom.

Did you mean the original window$ version dl page:
http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/downloads.html
or the installer page:
http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/
? I personally recommend download ing the installers, they're easier to handle.

The installers... They kept timing out for like 3 hours yesterday... eventually I gave up.

EDIT: I just tried again... they are dling now

Well I appreciate the replies... Well... this is a hobby... and with all my hobbies they are either free are damn near close to free...

BTW I tired getting GIMP but I couldn't get it to dl from the site (nor the runtime you need to DL for windows)... anyone know of an alternate site for it?

Ya know... I read and read... and read... and never saw that... I think its time for another beer...

How hard would it be to implement the auto code complete for installed plugins, IE the editor would read the DLL and load the script funcions into its database of functions (I dunno exactly how you have that setup so forgive me if I am completely wrong) so that when typing out the script the auto complete dropdown appears for those functions as well as the core functions...

Hello ladies and germs...

I have been working a bit on my art and what not for my first AGS game... since I am pretty new to the scene could you please check out

http://groups.msn.com/fostoria/skytowerrescue.msnw?Page=Last And check out the one screenshot and the other straight rooms I have worked on...

Would you, but graphics value alone, say these are ok, The house one is just an experiment I actually have one that takes all my best ideas from this room, this one just shows the poster and the computer (and desk)...

Secondly... My main sprite is about 18 pixels wide and 24 pixels tall... is that too small for these size rooms? and items...

The graphics are basicly being pulled from my RM2K games and the RTP and what not... Anyway... just wondering....

It also helps for people to have an actual pointer... I know that doesnt work for everything, but when the pixel you are using at the point for the pointer is right in the middle, it isnt at nice as a definate point... which I understand is not always possible... which is why for my little moving walk icon i put the point in his head...

Personally, a hotspot should be at least 5X5 pixels on small resolution and 10X10 on high... and just because you have a T shaped object (like a tap on a barrel) doesnt mean the hotspot has to be T shaped too.. nothing wrong with a square....

I guess in some ways its balancing between user usability and hardness of the puzzle (IE that tiny crack in the wall you may miss that holds the great key of winning)

Currently I am using IDraw for my graphics, and it gets the job done... But with only 256 colors to work with and its impossible to tone up and or down the color depth... Would it be worth shelling out the money for one of these programs? I'm not the worlds greatest computer artist, but with AGS its mostly perspective drawing which I'm fairly good at...

So anyway... is it worth it?

There is: http://www.urbandictionary.com/ - it's user submitted, so it has most of the 1337 phrases in it. pwn is in there.

Hrm... thats ok... but I want a published book... I guess I should have mentioned book earlier... I really dont think of publishing as something done on the internet....

pwn verb - own - To have control over. Also a synonym for being the best, such as "That game pwns!"
pwned verb p.tense - owned -  The individual that has lost control, coolness, or embarassed in some way. To beat someone in a compitition with little doubt of who was the victor, as in, "I was playing Quake II with Rich, and I pwned him the whole game."

Example:
LOLOL!!!one111one!!11!! IJUZHAXX0r teh n00b!!!!!!!!!11111LOLOLOLOLO pwned!!!!!!one1111!!!!oneoneoneoone!!1

(He... someone should publish a 1337 to english dictionary.... for some reason I think it would be funny)

Note: I dont really claim to know any of this stuff... so if I'm wrong... I dont really give a damn... this was meant at an attempt to be funny... which probably failed.

That works for me too... Thanks

BTW I hate learning new systems... but its fun... at least this editor lets me actually CODE something I code  so much faster than I can point and click...

Out of curiosity was the redhead supposed to lose her glasses in the evening dress? (If a person has contacts they usually wear them all the time unless they are at home just chilling out).

Not sure about the color for the glasses either... you could easily use black for both poses, and it wouldnt clash too much... (I know im new here, but constructive criticism is appreciated, no?);

I know I am new here but I'm looking over the stuff about adulthood in the US and what not...

Mostly it depends on the state, but as a general rule it is 18. Like in the state of Missouri 18 is considered adulthood, but you can be charged with statatory (sp?) rape at the age of 17, which 17 is considered an adult in that case. However, in Missouri the MINOR that goes across your drivers license will be there until the age of 21 (legal drinking age). Which BTW is considered the minimal age of an adult in some states...

FYI, you Euros (BTW I spend 3 years living in Germany, and I traveled all over so I do know a bit about Europe) who are used to ordering beer and the stronger liquers, at the age of 15-16, can forget about it in the states. (Unless of course you can find someone to buy it for you, or you are over 21) which if you are caught drinking, the oldest person at the event (party or just chilling at the house) is the one charged with the crimes... Oh and no ciggies purchaces until 18... so if you are under the above ages, don't expect to procure these things yourself...

global room variables are not destroyed.
But you can't call them from the game global script.
If you want to call it from the global script (or from other rooms ) you have to use a global int.

No.

Basicly I have a guy you have to talk to 3 times before he gives you an item, I have a room int variable that counts how many times you have talked to him (I will use the same technique for rotating messages with other characters). I just wanted to make sure I could use it as a room var int RomanTalkedTo = 0; so if the player didnt talk to him 3 times while he was in the room it would still work if he came back and talked later...

Thanks for the info...

AnimateObject
or
AnimateObjectEx

Should do it for you

Out of curiosity, and before I spend hours trying to figure it out for myself...

If you have a global room variable, and you leave that room, is the script that runs that room destroyed and the variable reinitialized when the room is re-entered, or do I need to make those variables in the global script so they will not be destroyed?

Personal preference has always been to make the scope of any variable in the lowest possible block of code, but if the room object (sorry I'm mostly a java programmer) is left is that room object destroyed until the room is reentered, and so reinitializing my global room variables?

The sound is so short (sound of an axe hitting wood) that it plays twice during that single frame of animation, making it sound horrible so I had to add the IsSoundPlaying check so it would only fire once during that frame of animation...

The reason playambient wont work for me is ambient sound automaticly loops the sound, when I only want it to play when the axe hits the tree, and trying to edit that sound by putting silence in the right places was getting tedius (I spent 3 hours trying to get the timing down and I could never get it perfect) So this is pretty much the only solution I have at this point. At least to get the effect that I am searching for.
