Critics' Lounge / House/Woods C&C

Hi,

I just finished this background, I'd like a little C&C.  How's the forest in the background look?  Should I add/change anything?

Thanks

You know, I don't often think about night terrors anymore, but in looking around the internet, I find that I'm in good company.  From wikipedia:

"The most famous avowed sufferer of night terrors is probably H. R. Giger. H. P. Lovecraft is widely believed to have experienced them as well."

Well, perhaps this is why I am, as my girlfriend says, "fucked up".

It's not a common problem at all, actually.  When I was a kid, they really didn't know much about it.  I read on wikipedia that 3% of children have them, but that number seems quite high to me.

It's not that adults don't get night terrors, it's just that children are more prone to them and children that have them also often grow out of them.  This happened both with myself and my father.

I grew up having night terrors, and later something similar to what you seem to be experiencing.  How old are you?  Maybe you don't want to say, but as LGM mentions, younger people tend to have all out night terrors...and from what you describe, that doesn't sound like one.  Night terrors, at least in my experience, are extremely frightening, and you don't really remember much once its over.  You also, or at least  I, would walk around, run, hit things/people.  All kinds of stuff.

Later, when i was in high school, I'd sometimes wake up from a nap feeling extremely apprehensive...and felt like I couldn't move.  It would last for only a few minutes, but it wasn't fun.  I've had people (and my former neurologist) decribe them as auras...sort of the experience and symptoms you get before having a seizure:

That description actually sounds closer to what you're having.  I'm no doctor, but maybe you have some type of seizure disorder or epilepsy.  Epilepsy comes in all kinds of ways, you don't have to have grand mal seizures to have it.

If you can, I'd think about going to see a neurologist.

That was a great game!  Unbelievable goals in the last minute (or two) of double overtime!  Hooray for Italy!

Ok, the date is set.  Check out the first post.  This should be fun!

Well, as I said in the first post, some people could potentially crash here if it's just for a weekend.  But I only have a one bedroom apartment.  And my girlfriend probably wouldn't love that idea.  There are hostels around, lots of hotels.  But they can be costly.  We could also do the camping thing...there's actually an island in Maryland I've always wanted to go to...they have campsites and even wild horses.    We could camp on the beach: http://www.nps.gov/asis/camping.htm

Just an idea.  There's plenty to do in DC.

Ok, as for the dates...I'll double check with my girlfriend tonight, but the weekend of Sept. 2nd should work.  So I'd be willing to definitely set Labor Day weekend in stone if we can all agree on that.  So far, we've got myself, Edmundo, Dave Gilbert, and Scummbuddy definitely down for this.  We've also got interest from lo_res_man and SteveMcrea.

Anybody else?

Hey, it's looking good so far.  I loved this game as a kid, and this remake is just as fun.  Great job!

That could potentially work for me.  I'd have to check with the old lady though...

The US got shalacked.  Oh well.  I don't understand why you have to go to ESPN2 to see the World Cup here (in the US)...why can't it be on a normal station?  I have to go to bars to watch it (which is fine, just inconvenient).

There are countries other than the US?  I'm pretty sure the World Cup is a Nascar race.

I leave for a for a week in the rurals of upper Wisconsin and come back to find every mention of the 4th OROW gone!  I hear on irc that the Heist won...congrats...I guess AJA made it?  Can someone provide a recap...I'd like to know who made the games this time around.

Way to go everyone who made & released a game...as I remember Helm saying, they were high quality!  Let's do this again sometime (but not too soon, my girlfriend is still recovering).

You can go half-way and get a half-built computer on tigerdirect.com.  I recently got a new computer (i'm not a techie so i won't go on about the specs cause i don't know what they mean) but it was pretty affordable and all I had to do was put it all together.

Well, I was thinking of having a narrator tell the story and guide the player along, or write it in second person point of view.  I haven't decided yet---I've mostly been focusing on artwork.  One thing is for certain though...this game will not depend heavily on dialogue puzzles...as Henry cannot speak.  People will certainly speak to him, and the player will have to learn to communicate without words...so that in and of itself will be different and potentially interesting.

I was either going to write the music myself, and/or ask some friends/bands that I know if I can use their music.  But most likely I'll just do it myself.

Wow, looks like one scary dude.  I was kinda going more for the backwoods trucker type, but there's something creepy about a religiuos zealot in black.

Hillbilly...I was considering the possibilities of dying in certain scenes, but only with the option of going back to the beginning of the scene if you "die".  There's nothing i hate more than playing old sierra games and falling off cliffs.

Thanks for the encouragement!  I'm afraid there won't be much humour in this one, but it should still be fun.
