Sadly it's not a joke.  There has been talk about this here and there for a while.  I'm not sure that I'll be sticking around either.  It's really a sad, sad day.  And I had just about completed Emily Enough 2!  Screw it, I'll just make a different game.

Well Scummbuddy seemed interested when we were talking about it on Irc, so that would already be a good group!  Sweet...

That's it, I'm switching over to LASSIE!

The date is set!  We will be having a meeting of AGS enthusiasts this coming Labor Day weekend (Sept 2-4th) hosted by myself, Anarcho, in Washington DC.

Possible activities could include:

Talking about how great computer games are while staring at the Lincoln monument:

Comparing the works of Georgia O'Keefe as seen in the Smithsonian to the works of Steve Purcell:

and drinking a special "AGS ALE" homebrewed by yours truly and guaranteed to inspire disturbingly dark amateur adventures.

If you would like to attend and haven't already spoken up, either post a message in this thread or PM me.  I am going to ask that this is a 18+ event for obvious reasons, and if you're under 21, please PM me to talk about it before you come.

There will be limited accomodations available in my apartment (if you dare), otherwise I can help people with finding a hostel or hotel.  This hostel is actually a couple blocks from my apartment and in a very cool neighborhood:

and here is another one with reasonable prices:

Let me know how I can help, and I hope to see you here!

Logan

Hi all,

A little while back, a few of us on Irc were talking about having a meet-up here in the US.  I live in Washington, DC and would be willing to host such an event.  I'm thinking we could do this over a weekend, or possibly over a long weekend (Friday-Sunday).  It can get miserably hot around here in the summer, so the best time to do it would probably be in May or early September, though I'm willing to do it anytime (though I might mention I'm out of town May 28 - June 4).

As for accommodations, I live in a one-bedroom apartment with my girlfriend and a cat.  Depending on how many people come, some people can certainly crash here.  Alternately, there are a few hostels in the area, though I'm not sure about availability.  We've also got plenty of hotels, if you're rolling in doe.

As for what we could do--I'm right in downtown dc, just a metro ride from all the monuments & Smithsonian.  There are a lot of restaurants around, and some fun bars.  If it's warm enough and people wanted to do it, we could also drive out to the beach (though it's a few hours away).  Oh and of course, we can get all nerdy and discuss Adventure-ish things all day and night.

I think I'd have to put an age restriction on this, either 18 or 21.  I don't know which would be better.

Anyway, let me know if you're interested!

Did you put more contrast on the boy, than you did the background?  he looks really good.

EDIT: Oh, I zoomed in and saw what you did.  I like your changes!

thanks for the paintover Prog, though I did some reworking myself before rechecking this post.  Here's what I've done thus far, and I'm pretty satisfied with it.

I know I probably should draw him a bit more overweight, but I kinda like him this way.  As for the contrasting, it really blends well with my backgrounds I think:

Thanks for the help & I'm going to play around with your suggestions.

Thanks for the all the help everyone!  His arms have been a problem, but I'll work on it tonight.  I'll also play around with everyone's suggestions.

I appreciate it,

Hi, I was hoping to get a little C&C with this sprite.  I'm better at backgrounds, so drawing sprites is a little frustrating for me...any advice would certainly be welcome.  Just to give you some background, this kid is from a poor home, he's a bit mentally handicapped, and can't talk.  I always imagined him as a sort of hump-back type, but this is the best version I've come up with yet.

thanks,

Logan

How inappropriate.

Isn't Brighton the city featured in Quadrophenia?   Are there still beach battles between Mods & Rockers?

Where's this week's podquest, boys?  I need my weekly fix of awkward silences and unprofessional on-air food chewing.

Spain? Wow, that...uh, is not close at all to Washington dc.  Ticket prices are looking mighty steep, so I'm afraid I won't be able to make it this year.  I pray next year will be on this side of the atlantic, as the rumours suggest....

Farlander, we'll have to debate muslim headware in French public schools some other time!

Man, last time i posted a picture I got criticized for not using enough saturation.  I thought I'd use some different colors on this one, but maybe it backfired.

Dan, do you have any suggestions on how to fix the trees in the foreground?

So Ivy, what you're saying about the foreground trees is that basically they're too thick?  I was just thinking that with the vanishing point so high, by the time you get down to the foreground trees you're basically looking down on them from above...so you'd see the lowest branches hanging out.  Does anyone share The Ivy's opinion about the branches?

I'll try taking out that black branch to the far left...

Now that I look at it, the background hills look like mist.  I'll try and add some trails or something.

khrismuc, you're always on my case about doors!  ;)  I'll fix the width.

Tuomas, yeah that brown was supposed to be  foundation, but for whatever reason i didn't carey it over to the right side of the house.  And i hadn't thought about that hole under the stairs.  I think originally it was just supposed to be a porch, but then I expanded it without thinking.

Taffytom, I'll play around with your clouds idea.

I always hesitate to post things here because I don't want people to see my whole game before it's done, but you're always so helpful.  Thanks for the help!

Am I the only one that can't get on the podcast site?  I get a screen that says, "Hier entsteht eine neue Internetpräsenz !"  Is Grundislav's site down or something?

I haven't made a lot of backgrounds set outside, so I'd like a bit of c&c.  Do the trees in the foreground look ok?  How about the forest in the background?  I'd like to put something in that empty hilly space near the middle, but I'm not sure what.  I'd also like to change the horizon a bit, but not sure how.  Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks

I kinda disagree with Scotch here.  I think animation can add a whole lot to a game.  When characters remain static, eternally standing still at the fruit cart or shop desk or whatever, the game world feels static.  Think about in Monkey Island 1 when the shopkeeper leaves his store and you have to follow him.  The game world comes alive in a way, you feel a new sense of urgency and relevance.

Now I'm not simply talking about little animations involving the character picking things up or stuff like that...I think bigger animations involving NPCs are critical.  But also time consuming.

Leitors Edge always looked like a wicked cool game, so I hope you can finish it someday.  Don't get discouraged!

Do you have one of those mouse pads with the elevated cushion for your wrist?  My hand was bothering me at work and I got them to buy me one of these nice mouse pads...and I really haven't had any problems since.  It's good that you're being proactive about this, because you don't want surgery.

The back animation looks a bit wierd, I think you need to darken the back of the leg that goes forward more otherwise it's hard to tell which leg is going forward and which leg is going back.  I'd do a quick edit but I'm not at home...
