General Discussion / Re: The AGS community

I dunno, the AGS community isn't what it used to be.  ::)

I've been dealing with this problem lately, trying to fit in every necessary object or room feature with the floor plan fighting me the whole way.  I think planning is obviously the best policy, but a little creative deviation isn't a big deal.  So what if the floor plan doesn't completely make sense...9 times out of 10 the player will  never notice (unless you give the player a floorplan like in 5Days, which i noticed as well).

99 pounds is like, 200 us dollars, right?  who the heck will buy that?  It's not even that good anyway... :)

Great game Baron!  I love the atmosphere...and I like that she doesn't have a face.  It makes the game a little more surreal, in a good way.

Catslight--I think it would be awesome (and kinda funny) if you and your translator group translated Emily Enough into italian.  I'm not sure how you go about doing that kind of thing.  I guess you would need the source files, or the uncompiled game?  PM me.

Janik--ok, thanks for the info.  I really don't feel like fixing this game any more, but maybe I'll scrape together enough enthusiasm for a version 1.3.

Also, the game is now permanently available at my new website: http://www.blendslowlyforarichthicksauce.com/EmilyEnoughImprisioned.rar

I'm developing the website right now, which will feature (among other things) a page on Emily Enough and a page on my next game, which also under development.

I'd go with 5 Days and Pleurghburgh--both great examples of excellent game design.  And fun too.

Just finished the game!  Fantastic.  It's the best adventure game I've played in a very long time.  I think the graphics are just awesome, the walk animation is a little off but the backgrounds are quite amazing.  How can one person draw all those backgrounds?

Well, zooming in on parts of the room, like the edges of the doorway frame, the bookshelf...most things in the room actually.  I like the way it looks, but people always go on and on about how awful anti-aliasing is.  So I'm wondering what the big deal is with anti-aliasing.  Personally, I do it by hand a lot, but I'm wonding if say when you draw a straight line, do you have the "anti-aliasing" button checked on.  Or do you blend those colors together by hand?

Dan, enough concept art already.  RELEASE THE GAME!

Just kidding, but seriously, this game still looks great.  I love that bathroom.  One question though, did you do all that anti-aliasing by hand?

Dave, you should just be able to walk back down to the center in front of the two bathroom doors to go back down the hallway.

Schnubbel, I've updated the links.  You can now download the game via my new site at http://www.blendslowlyforarichthicksauce.com/EmilyEnoughImprisioned.rar.

czarner, you can leave through the hallway to the left of the security guard.  Just walk through.

Isxek, I'm glad you like it.  It is too bad that it's not suitable for younger kids, but what can I say?  It wouldn't be the same game if it were.

I agree, that in a perfect world, the father should know and be part of the decision making process.  But laws are pretty much black and white, and rarely leave room for special circumstances or exceptions.

Right, but what if you're husband almost kills you and you have to leave the state to escape him?  You can't care for a child and need to have an abortion, what then?  Send him a nice letter in the mail?  This kind of thing is not as rare as you think.
#273
From what I understand, this particular law was struck down citing abused spouses may be afraid or unable to obtain "approval" from their husbands.  I think that's an excellent argument.  Furthermore, I can think of many different scenarios where needing "approval" from a spouse is an unfair burden.

I'm sympathetic to the arguments against abortion (especially late term), but when it comes down to it, it's a woman's choice.

I think this is a great idea.  I actually thought about doing this a while back but then forgot about it.  Seriously.

Look around the hospital and see if there aren't any other places where you could get sandwiches into the building.  Look carefully.

I think the third one is the best, though the second one would be great except that his shoulders heave a bit too much.  The first one's abs look like they're floating apart from his body.

That's a great dog though.  Awesome animation!

Critics' Lounge / Re: Perspective problem

Yeah, i guess I'm talking about how steep everything is.  I just really dislike backgrounds where it looks like you're looking down from a high ladder, but the player character is drawn in complete profile as if you are standing next to him.  Do you know what i'm talking about?

I can post a bg i'm working on once i get home from work to show what i mean.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but since vanishing points of come up...where is the best place to draw your horizon on adventure game backgrounds?  I find if it's too high, then scaling often becomes a problem (like Farlander's problem).  Is there any good rule to work with, or does it not really matter?  does it matter more where the 2 points are in relation to one another?

No, I'm not considering a sequel.  Though if I did, it would probably consist of Emily showing up on her grandma's doorstep, being uncomfortably welcomed home under the subtle threat of murder.  But I'm working on another project that has nothing to do with Emily Enough, so a sequel is not in the works.

I'm glad you like it, and I always appreciate feedback!

Yikes, thanks for the warning.  Hopefully they won't turn out to be jerks.
