As I've just recently learned, www.reloaded.org is abandonia's sister site that deals exclusively with freeware games.  They're building an excellent site!

Do we have a thread somewhere that lists good freeware game sites?  It would be good to have a list somewhere, maybe a sticky in the completed games forum, so that enterprising AGSers can advertise their games on places other than the forums.  I just googled "freeware games" and came across a site called HippoGames...never heard of it before, but they have quite a few adventures for download (including 5DAS and 7DAS) with reviews---plus they get a ton of traffic.  I just submitted my game to them for review.

If this hasn't been done before, maybe everyone can submit a few of their favorite sites, so that we can help spread the word beyond our borders about the many great AGS games out there.

Here are a few sites that I know of:

www.the-underdogs.org
www.gamehippo.com/

www.adventuregamers.com/

The save/load GUI script for Emily Enough is crap, it was a last minute effort that I pieced together without much of a knowledge base.  If you experience problems with it, it's most likely the script, not the linux engine.

No, it's not scary.  Pretty screwed up though, some may say "disturbing".  You should play it!

If you're talking strictly "games", i used to make up sort of role playing games with my sister.  I'd make a fort out of blankets and call myself a wizard.  But if you're talking computer games, I suppose my first "project" was an AGS game about a guy in medieval england that gets amnesia and becomes a brigand.  At some point he encounters a lone woman and child on a back road, robs them, then kills them.  Then at some point gets his memory back and realizes he killed his wife and child.  Then goes on some kind of rampages/soul seeking journey.  I really didn't know how to draw back then, and it was too big a project to start with, so I dropped it and moved onto what became Emily Enough.  But Emily Enough was several projects in and of itself, considering I redrew all the graphics probably half a dozen times.

I've used PSP 5 for a couple years now.  It works fine for me.  The only problem I encountered is that you can't resize or rotate images without a whole lot of anti-aliasing.  That sucks if you want to animate pixel art by rotating legs or arms.  People have told me that you can turn off anti-aliasing, but it sounds like it's just in the post version 5 packages.

If you're doing general pixel art, there really shouldn't be a big difference between programs.  A good pencil or 1 pixel pen, a magic wand/lasso, line tools and the use of layers is pretty much everything you need.

I thought someone was going to pick a new game for October?

Spoiler
I'm not entirely clear one where you are, but if you've talked to steve after he sent the delivery person back...shouldn't you call Megawich back?

There definitely seem to be some GUI issues that I need to fix.  I honestly just patched together some code while beta-testing without really knowing what I was doing.  I'm surprised it doesn't explode when you call up the save menu.  Sorry about the frustration, I'll be out of town for the next week but hopefully I can fix it when I get back.

Regarding the cursor issue...you're saying the icon bar doesn't turn on when you bring the mouse cursor to the top of the screen?  I haven't heard that one before...

Look, I understand that it's strange that Americans call soccer soccer and football football, but that's just the way it is.  295,734,134 Americans aren't going to one day wake up and say, "man, we should call Football...Yardgain!"  That's about as likely as the rest of the world calling football soccer.

And I'm largely joking by the way...you just have to understand how, in the US, if you were to say..."hey guys, wanna go play some American Football?" people would look at you like you're crazy.  It's all so complicated, given that there are 600-700 million people in the world who speak english regularly, but it's often an almost different language.

nikolasideris--In the United States, football refers to a different sport: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football

It's actually a very fun, exciting sport.  Sounds like a great game MillsJROSS.

And my point was football is football.  Not soccer!

Hotspot.

Right, except this thread is about football, not soccer.   :-*
#294
How did I know that a thread about football would immediately veer into a thread about soccer?

Cool.  Too bad they aren't releasing other, older games...I wouldn't mind a collection of the more esoteric games.

Wow, they're also releasing a game called, "the Apprentice" based on the Donald Trump show.  Oh how the mighty have fallen...

If you're having this much trouble finding it, then perhaps you're not at the correct stage in the game, i.e. it isn't there.

Sorry about that, the only thing I can say is that on my monitor, the text is perfectly readable.  Perhaps a little dark, but not bad.

I think that's a great idea, Snarky.  There is a lot more people can be doing to market AGS games.  Personally all I did was make a post on the completed games forum---I bet that's all most people do.  If some dedicated people got together, put together goals and guidelines for the kind of games they want to back, they could really help bring AGS games to a new level.

And btw, this whole business of making up a game company that doesn't really exist does tend to waterdown the effect.  Sure it's fun and all, but it's practically a joke at this point.

Is that 19.99 pounds?  Considering the exchange rate in most other countries relative to the pound, you might consider other prices.  Wouldn't 20 pounds be about 40 US dollars?  That's quite a lot for a game...I mean, i foolishly bought Doom 3 for 30 US dollars.  That's the most I'm usually willing to spend on a in-store game.
