Great, this is all very helpful.  I guess I shouldn't second guess myself...but i can see that the ceiling is too low.  When i just drew the room without detail, it just looked so ridiculous, i didn't think it will work.  But loominous's drawing shows that the perspective works fine (that's a killer drawing dude, though a little over the top for my purposes).

ildu, I actually want Emily to be kinda tiny.  You're going to see her quite a lot for the rest of the game.  I want her tiny to create a sense tension and fear...

Ok, I'll work on something tonight and post a new picture when it iss done.

Thanks!

Hmm, well, I don't want Emily (yes, it's Emily, good guess!) to be quite that small.  I guess with the perspective you've drawn, the chair would have to be maybe half the size it currently is?  That seems REALLY small.  Maybe you're right though, i'll play around with it tomorrow (i need to sleep too).  Thanks a lot for the input khrismuc.

any other opinions are welcome though.

Ok, a little explanation for this horrible drawing----this is nothing more than a sketch, I'm trying to work out the perspective and it just isn't coming out right.

This is what I'm going for---the room consists of a fine dining room with four individuals standing in the foreground.  The table is one of those ridiculously long tables rich people eat at, with one person on one end and another at the other.  At the far end is my main character---a little girl.

So the problem I have is that I can't get the room to look big enough, and I can't get the table to look long enough.  I'm trying to do a one point perspective here, I think the problem might be the vanishing point is too high.  I really like the outlines I have going for the people, I may even leave them as silhouettes once I get the rest looking right.

If anyone can help me out with this, I'd appreciate it.  I guess it's just been a long time since I've done a proper background.

Oh thank God.  Thank Jesus, thank Buddha, thank Vishnu, thank Bhaal, and thank you Gilbot.  And thank you Chris for building in that backup function.  I was gonna have a nervous breakdown.

Oh, by the way, it worked.   :-*

I just got this message when trying to test my game:

---------------------------
Illegal exception
---------------------------
An exception 0xC0000005 occured in ACWIN.EXE at EIP = 0x00431B5A ; program pointer is +3330, ACI version 2.70.861, gtags (18,46)

AGS cannot continue, this exception was fatal. Please note down the numbers above, remember what you were doing at the time and notify CJ on the Tech forum.

Right before this happened, I had tried to test the game, and it was in the middle of saving...it was taking a very long time (because I had other things going on at the time) and because I'm an idiot I closed AGS using Ctrl Alt Del----i thought it would only close the game not AGS, but it closed everything.  Then when I opened up the game again, and tried to test it, I got this message.  Now, when I open my sprite manager----EVERY SINGLE SPRITE IS GONE.  All of the names of the sprites are there, but all the images are gone.  I'm pretty much screwed.

Thankfully my last backup was two weeks ago, instead of 2 months ago, but damn this sucks.

Ah, thanks so much.  That would ((do it), right?  I've got to stop coding things after midnight.

No, my feelings still remain hurt.  This shall never be forgotten, I assure you.  For all long as I live...     ::)

I'm trying to save my game here and I'm getting an error in the Global script:

"Runtime error: unexpected eof"

It doesn't say where the error in the global script is.  The only mention of EOF in the help file is about EOF Property but I don't really understand it.  I was editing a dialog request just prior to this error coming up.  Hopefully someone can help me out without having to go through my whole script, but just in case:

Ok, I'm chilled.  I guess I'm just bitter that I'll be stuck in an office while you all hang out in Greece.   :'(

I'm sure he was kidding, but I still think it's a lame thing to say.  If I were new to the forums I'd read it and think, wow, this is just a cool kids club.  I know AGS isn't like that, but still...

"The true and fascinating story behind 'Mittens' is only told during mittens meetings."

Wow, way to make the community feel inclusive.  Last time I checked there were almost three thousand members registered on the forums, and maybe only a couple more than a dozen people can actually make it to mittens.  That's not for a lack of desire, for most I'd wager it's because people can't afford the cost of traveling half-way across the world.  So why exclude everyone who isn't fortunate enough to have the resources to make it to Mittens?

Well, I've been testing the game for a few weeks now.  I can get through probably half the game before encountering any major bugs.  I did work last night that should get me through two thirds of it with any luck.  I've added in all of the small animations and other little things that needed to get done---mainly various animations of her picking things up.  I've also finally finished all of Emily's walking animations---side views, front and back.  It's all looking pretty good.

Unfortunately, I've yet to complete the intro sequence and final cutscene, but the way I've planned them out it shouldn't take long.  The only thing that might take a while is music, but hopefully it won't.  I really just want to get this project done to A) prove that someone can create a big game for their first game and B) move onto something else.  I've got tons of neat ideas for games.

Anyway, Totoro---you're first on my list for beta-testing.

Can you save it as a gif?  It's kind of hard to figure out what's wrong with your animation if we can't see it animated.

The pill can definitely have some nasty effects on some people.  I'm not familiar with many other kinds of contraception beyond condoms, the pill, and diaphrams  though.

My question is, why bother with invasive surgery via a vasectomy if you're only going to see your boyfriend a few times while in Japan?  That's got to hurt, and no matter how you feel now regarding children, your feelings may change in ten years---who knows.  I know my girlfriend and I don't want kids, and can't imagine ever wanting any, but I don't know how I'll feel when i'm 30 or something.

It's wierd, a lot of the papers in the US about France's vote and how the Dutch may vote it down too, and provide analysis of the vote, but they don't really talk about WHY people would object to the constitution.  From what I gather here there are a lot of things lacking in it?

Ah, that's it! Thank you Thank you Thank Scorpiorus.  You're my new personal hero.   ;D

Ok, first of all, I'm using 2.7, but I had this same problem when I was using 2.62.  I do remember this problem cropping up around the time I updated to 2.62, but maybe I'm just imagining things.

As per you suggestion, I made a test game to see if the same problem occurs---and it doesn't.  I used the same animation cycle and everything, and when I change the animation speed to a higher number the animation is slower.

Finally, here is my global script:

There must be something somewhere that is turning off the character editor setting.

Sorry to bump this, but I'm still having the same problem here, and I really need a solution.  No matter what number I set the Animation speed at for my main character, she walks at the same fast speed.  Does anybody know what I could have done that could have effectively disabled the animation speed setting in the character editor?!?

How's she look?  Maybe a little choppy, but I think it's good enough.  Lots of thanks to Eric for his forward walk tutorial!  That was a big help.
