I know you're trying to help me, but I have no idea what you're talking about.  When it comes to any kind of math, my mind shuts down.  :-\

But here's what I do know...my game is high res, the best speed I've found is 3, otherwise she goes too fast.  With the speed set at 3, no matter if I set the animation speed at 1, 2,3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 13, 25+---whatever, her animation loop goes at the same speed.  And that speed is too fast.

UPDATE: So I also just figured out that the animation speed setting does work, but ONLY when the character is moving to a walk-to point.  For example, if you click the interact icon on a hotspot, and the character starts moving toward it, the animation setting and frame delay settings suddenly work.  I found this the hardway because I set the frame delay to 100 each, and it only worked when the character went to a hotspot.  I then set the frame delay back to 0, and played just with the animate speed setting in the character editor, and it again only worked in this manner.

what's going on?!?

Ok, I got the movement speed problem down.  But the animation speed is still troubling me.  In the help file it says:

To change the rate at which the character animates, change the Animation Speed box. Here, a smaller number means faster animation.

But no matter what number I set the animation speed in the character editor, she still moves at the same speed.  Why would that be?  I even changed the frame delays to different numbers in her walk views, and she still walks the same way---regardless.  I've also toggled the glide/anti glide setting.  There must be something obvious that I'm doing wrong.
#463
Yeah, I've tried it on both settings.  With anti-glide on and off.

I'm having a hell of a time with my main character's speed and animation speed.Ã,  It seems like no matter what setting I have it on, she moves way too fast.Ã,  I thought that if the speed is set at a higher number the character is supposed to move more slowly.Ã,  I've found that if I set it low, like at 0 she practically transports across the screen.Ã,  If I set it around 15 she moves really fast, but at least you can see her.Ã,  If you set it anything higher she transports again.Ã,  Additionally, I can't get her animation loop to slow down, I imagine I can just delay each individual frame by huge numbers, but the same thing is happening with the "animation speed" setting---it is just always moving too fast.Ã,

I'm using v2.62.Ã,  I don't think I had this problem with the previous version of AGS.

Eric,

You've got to make more of those.  They're awesome.  What a great idea...

Have you ever seen the original Amityville Horror?  Wow that's a bad movie.  Depressingly bad.  It sets up a lot of great tension then just kills it with stupidity.  And tar.  Or something like that.

I've been experiencing this strange problem where the main character and npc talking animations only work SOMETIMES.  For example, the talking animations usually work fine for characters when the EGO initiates a conversation with them.  However, when the EGO looks at an object or npc, and the npc talks in response, the talking animation doesn't work, even when the message is coming from that character.  Additionally, during the opening cutscene the main character and an npc talk but their talking animations don't work. It used to work fine, but now it doesn't.

Is there an easy explanation for why this couple be happening?

I saw the original Japanese film after I saw the American version and it really is the same film except for some amusing differences in character traits.  In the American version, the main character is a strong and independant woman who bosses around her ex and mostly investigates/solves the main conflict herself.  In the Japanese version, the main character is whiney and weak and prone to fits of weeping stopped only by a good open hand slap from the male protagonist.  I thought that was very interesting...

But I liked both, and I actually like Gore Verbinski 's version a lot.  There aren't many GOOD horror movies out there, and that's one of them.

jesus, who are you, Tony Montana?  Either way, I've got a nice set of lock picks, pet jaguar, Camera scramblers, triple lock door neutralizer and, um, un-alarm system-er that will render your security...um, meaningingless.

I've only ever seen it discussed as "Ringu".  If you google "Ringu" you get a ton of hits, including this:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0178868/

But, it does say "Ring" on the box.  I don't know.  Perhaps it was released with different titles.  I don't remember what the title was when I watched it on video, but I'm pretty sure it was "Ringu".

I refer to it as "Ringu" because that's the name of the movie as released in the US, where I live.  I mean, it bugs me that in Germany they change titles of American movies to completely different things (like Saving Private Ryan became The Soldier named Ryan or something like that), but I'm not going to make up names of movies based on pronunciation.

Anyone planning on seeing this?  I was a big fan of Ringu and American remake, and evidently Hideo Nakata directed this new sequel.  Unfortunately it seems to have gotten some bad reviews.  Anybody seen it yet?

I definitely can not afford a trip to Australia, nor can I take that much time off from work.

But I'd love to attend a shorter Amerittens.  Maybe if folks wanted to come down here to Washington, DC we could work something out...

General Discussion / Re: Star Wars Movies

I pretty much agree with most of the sentiments already discussed, I really dislike E1 and I kinda like E2, but neither can stand up to the originals.

Problems with E1--pod racing?  What a waste of time.  C3P0 made by Anakin?  I agree, it was forced.  Bad acting--endemic!  Most of all---the CGI.  I just looks fake.  I remember the interviews on the "new" original trilogy vhs tapes and they talk about how they built ships out of model battleships and how much it sucked...but honestly, I still think it looks great.  Those opening shots of the star destroyers always gets me.

Problems with E2--the writing.  It's just awful.  I feel like the dialogue for Anakin and Amidala was written for actors who speak with British accents...but when it's delivered by mediocre American actors it comes off as awful (ok, maybe Natalie Portman isn't mediocre, but she can be).  Again with the CGI...pretty awful at times.  Still, I think this is a much better movie.  The scene with Yoda in the end is classic, and Ewan McGregor is a really great actor and really carries the film.

I'm definitely looking forward to the final prequel, but I've really been disappointed with the prequels so far.

Even though I'm from Connecticut, I'm rooting for the Eagles.  Gotta go for the underdogs.  And the pats are a bunch of pretty boys.

I'm getting a parse error on this long scrip here.  It's at the 2nd "else" in line 37.  I think I definitely don't have the brackets right.  This is my first experience trying to do a long GlobalInt code.  I'm obviously not doing it right.

CODE:

#sectionstart hotspot7_a  // DO NOT EDIT OR REMOVE THIS LINE
function hotspot7_a() {
  // script for hotspot7: Interact hotspot

  if (GetGlobalInt(79) == 0) { // if player hasn't gotten stack of coupons yet (GlobalInts are initially 0)
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "I've killed almost everyone I know.  There's no one left to call.");
  }
  else {
    if (GetGlobalInt(79) == 1) // if player has gotten stack of coupons and looked at them

    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Hello.  I would like to make an order for delivery.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "...");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Oh, uh...hey, what's our address?");
    DisplaySpeech(COOP, "132 Lamplighter Drive.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "132 Lamplighter Drive.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "...");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Yes, it's the asylum,");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "No, this is not a joke.  Now take my order or face my wrath!");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Ok.  I would like to order 763 Megawich Sandwiches.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "If you hang up on me, I will come down there and cut you!");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "I'm serious. I have 763 coupons that entitle me to free...");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "No, it doesn't say one coupon per customer.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "...");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Well you should have thought about that before you printed out the coupons.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "...");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "So will you deliver my sandwiches or not?  Yes?  Good.  And they better get here in ten minutes.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "What?  No!  All right.  Fine!  15 minutes.");
    DisplaySpeech(COOP, "Having a pizza party?");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Not exactly.");

    SetGlobalInt(79,0);
    }

  else { //
    if (GetGlobalInt(79) == 2) { // Talked to Steve about failed delivery of food

    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "I need to use the phone again.");
    DisplaySpeech(COOP, "Ok.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Yes, hello.  I placed an order for sandwiches, and I think you tried to deliver them but...");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Yeah, he is a jerk.  I don't know what his problem is.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "...");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Well I didn't know about the "no delivery" policy.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "...");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Yes, I still want the sandwiches.  I'll just have to figure out some other place for you to deliver them.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Ok, yes. I'll call back when I have it figured out.");

    SetGlobalInt(79,3);
    }

  else { //
    if (GetGlobalInt(79) == 3) { // Figuring out how to deliver food

    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "I still don't know how to get the sandwich deliveries into the building.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "I'll call them back once I have it figured out.");
    }

  else { //
    if (GetGlobalInt(79) == 4) { // Calling back MegaWich with solution

    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Hello, yes, it's me again.  I have it figured out.");
    DisplaySpeech(EGO, "Come to the south side of the building.  There's an open window.  You can deliver the sandwiches there.");

    SetGlobalInt(79,0);

         }
       }
     }
   }
}

Ok, I just used the "SetGlobalInt(77, 2);" because it was in your original code, but I'll take it out.

I'm gonna test now, but looks like it all works fine.  Thanks again.
