Gurok: Just pointing out that there is an imbalance in how race and gender is represented in a government isn't itself racism, sexism or in any way a part of the problem. I don't quite see how you can arrive at that opinion.

However, that also wasn't the main issue with the cabinet meeting. What's truly frightening is that a group of experienced, professional politicians so readily accepted to be reduced to self-humiliating sycophants, ignoring how ridiculous they seem to an observer. This means that Trump has created an atmosphere where anyone working in his vicinity must surrender all dignity and integrity, even as it borders and goes beyond parody. You couldn't script satire more unrealistic than what we just witnessed.

It's not supposed to look like that, Gurok. Trump isn't an emperor - they're not there to serve and please him, they're there to serve the American people. Even if Trump was as successful as he himself claims (another Kim Jong Il-inspired moment), which probably doesn't stand to scrutiny, that scene still wouldn't be justified. Maybe after eight years of constant success, of bringing unity and prosperity to a nation, as a retirement celebration, maybe then you can allow yourself that kind of self-gratulation. Not when work has hardly begun.

So... without any preamble, what are your thoughts on this?

I think this is scary as shit. I've never seen anything like it in a political context in a modern, developed nation. This is the kind of stuff Idi Amin pulled.

Hey everyone it's Screenshot Saturday:

Yeah, like I said there seems to be a concensus that this has to be done for either $0 or $10000 a month, which strikes me as odd.

I was inclined to advocate raising money for this, but I'll respectfully leave this debate and hope that you can come up with a solution. Me and Joel will manage anyhow...

I forgot to say hi to Scotch by the way. Hi!

Edit:

No, it was not that.
I was feeling so terrible earlier this day that I wanted to write another big stupid and stresful post, but now I feel rather numb.

The truth, that I has finally realized, or rather forced myself to admit, is that I am coward. The simple and terrible thing was that I was not brave enough to try something like, for example, scotch is working on right now. Even though I was supposed to, believed I should, and even was making plans about that.

Had I find bravery to do that, we could have a replacement engine for AGS years ago.

What was the result of my cowardice is 5 lost years, a wasted time and opportunities, both mine and yours. I feel like a greatest liar now, an impostor, who pretended that he is doing something good. Your community deserved better than that.

I cannot forgive myself for this, even when people tell me that I did well, that does not persuade me even a single bit, because in my heart I know that's not true

Ok, that sucks, mate. I'd tell you that we're all greatly indebted to you, and this community is eternally grateful, but that has already been said, so I don't reckon it helps.

Maybe you should go see someone professional and talk about your self-criticism, because it seems like you're having a bit of an issue there. I mean that in the most friendly, non-patronizing way possible; we're not psychologists (well, most of us aren't) here so we don't know how best to encourage you, or prevent you from criticizing yourself so badly.

Or do you reckon there's a way for you to work with AGS and still feel good about yourself and what you're doing? Otherwise maybe take a little break, get some distance between yourself and AGS, maybe as I said speak to someone or just pursue other avenues in life, for however long.

Before I read this thread, I was sure there existed sums between zero and 10k dollars a month.

Snarkiness aside, raising money to get someone to look after the maintainance and development of AGS is at least something we haven't tried. What we've tried so far has led to CW feeling downtrodden and depressed, to the point that he's about to leave the community, and a half dozen people making their own branches or in some cases entire programs with not much coordination.

Just sayin'.

We (read Joel) use Ags and since Joel is a real game programmer who used to work with big game companies I can only assume that Ags is useful in ways other engines/studios aren't.
I know that CW repeatedly claims money isn't issue, but mayne a yearly or biannual thread of appreciation and recognition is enough, because if the question is simply "do people use it?" then the answer is clearly yes. So maybe getting pro developers to pay money is an idea that at least hasn't been tested. I'd be up for it. Those interested in maintaining and working with the engine for money could then do so.

Does this take place at the Twin Pines/Lone Pine Mall?

(Actually, if he is dead then it must be the Twin Pines Mall...)

Yes.
Ok that was too easy, I'll make it trickier next time.

PS:
The reasoning behind the tire marks was that you'd only see those made by the swerving/speeding wheels of the Libyans' van and the DeLorean (Doc arrived in his own van, which supposedly arrived gently and without leaving any marks), the DeLorean's tracks even being on fire. And I didn't even get to the point where those tracks end very abruptly...

Case 16
A man lies dead on a parking lot, near a van. Two sets of tire tracks are seen.

Yes
Did the man own the van?
Was the man murdered?
Are the other tracks from someone driving away from the scene?
Are all parties involved human?

No
Did the man die from being run over?
Was one of the sets of tire tracks from the van?

I haven't paid close attention to this thread, so I'm not sure I'm doing this perfectly right, but here goes.

Ask for more details.

That wasn't a guess, that was an exclamation, as in "Jesus, this is difficult", only I accidentally put a question mark there.

Just kidding.
Pretty sure I'm right, so I'm whipping up a new case soon.

Is the killing an act of mercy, saving the victim from a much worse fate? (for instance certain starvation or a nuclear apocalypse)

Edit:
I realise the part where she doesn't realise the victim was her son is a much more relevant path to pursue than my above query, but it felt like a good question still.

Did she turn herself in?

probably needs a clarification; surely, the backgrounds are drawn in much lower resolution, but upscaled (judging by the visible pixelation/jaggedness).

I guess it is hi-res, because font is very small yet more detailed than it would be at lo-res.

PS. Great gfx, by the way :).

Absolutely - my point is that the graphics aren't natively hi-res. It may be misleading to people expecting 1280x720 graphics when they see very pixelated pictures with jagged lines. It's not a big deal, though.

Looks really cool! There's a shortage of games of this style and genre, I would say.

However, this

Congratulations, Cat!
Oh and also say goodbye to most of your spare game development time.

Shame I couldn't attend, but I'm in a sea of boxes, preparing to move house.

Great job Snarky, Cat and AGA (and others (oh hey I actually did the pencil art for the exterior splash screen thingie!)) for doing this thing, it's really a great tradition that I hope will never die.

Gratulations to all winners, many of whom, incidentally, are among my favourite game makers, such as Joel, Ben & Francisco, Cat, and Dualnames.

I would love to go to Iceland, but we got a new baby coming up and we'll also just have moved into a new house, so the odds aren't great. Still might be able to pull off a weekend, who knows...

Quote from: Andail on Sat 04/03/2017 08:49:12so yeah, let's not pretend these are clear-cut terms and labels!

They are clear-cut terms; the part that you're missing is that cliches are a subset of tropes (specifically, a cliche is a trope that's overused to the point of being trite or irritating; that mekes it somewhat subjective but nonetheless clearly defined).

"Zombie" is not a trope. "Zombies that act in such-and-such manner" is a trope, and several of those are cliches (whereas other writers can create a non-cliche story that uses different zombie tropes).

I understand the theoretical definition of the words - I'm not illiterate - I'm just saying that applying them is difficult since the whole thing is a bit of a grey area.

Since another forum member just gave an example that you immediately contradicted, and another example that a website dedicated to this concept has already contradicted, why should we maintain that this is an exact science?

Actually, my original point was that it's kind of interesting when things go from cliche to becoming a genre of its own (as in how escape-the-room became a type of game rather than a cliched story element of a game).
