Is there a change in this version?

Namely:
Spoiler
there used to be 4 slots in the pedestal. I don't seem to be able to get past that part of the game this time. Do you use the horse differently in this version?

Spoiler

The description has been removed (now Ord cannot see anything special with it until Signe has mentioned it), because it would be an obvious place to put the horse, and people were frustrated they could not do it at once. However, the puzzle and its solution are still identical.

Thanks for the report though!

EDIT: Responding to below (I'd hate to bump my own thread for a oneliner):
I will change the pins ASAP!

Always nice to see when AGS is being used for something outside the ol' adventure box :)
Looking fun, hope you can finish it soon!

I agree too :)
The simplistic style is nice, even though you see it as placeholder at the moment. If you decide to go for another style I wish you good luck with finding artists/animators for your team.

General Discussion / Re: Rape Jokes

I'm really really tired of comedy that's offensive for offensive's sake, because it's been done to death by now. Back when most societies were so prude and victorian it became a problem in itself, using comedy to provoke had a logical place. But now it's more often a shortcut around writing clever jokes, which is much harder.

What really bugs me is that comedians that use offensive material equate criticism with intolerance. "Can't you take a joke, you puritan, haha, I guess this is too avant-garde for you!" "No, I'm not in the least bit offended or embarrassed, it's just that you suck at being funny."
So these comedians become untouchable, as you will be dismissed as a reactionary if you dare criticize them.

Like when people say they like Family Guy because it's so in your face with crossing all those borders and you go "Oh really, you enjoy that even after the millionth time Peter hits his daughter? It's still edgy? Still breaking the norms?"

Gah. Provoke the narrow-minded and bigoted, don't provoke victims. Like Eddie Izzard, he provokes by just being himself in drag, but his comedy is super intelligent and relevant.

Thanks Krusbert, your input is highly appreciated :)

All right people, please go ahead and try the new and final version of the demo, now with a SOUNDTRACK, yes you heard me!

PS:
Can anyone hear a word of Davy's commentary in that promo? Because I can, but not that many.

Glad you're agreeing with us now, Stupot :) I think Jonez's illustration is also very pedagogical.

I like the rope riddle, it has some things in common with the first one, actually.

I don't see how you can be sure that the rope will burn in 30 minutes if you put both ends on fire.

Spoiler

If you know that the entire rope will burn in one hour, then lighting both ends simultanuously will solve the task of finding the "true" middle of the fuse. Both sparks will find this point after exactly 30 mins, and then there will be no more rope, and the fire will go out.

Sorry, stupot, but you're incorrect. Apart from the fact that most hills are easier to descend than ascend. But the rest is still valid, and is what makes this riddle special. Otherwise the point would simply be in the middle.

I think the trekking route riddle is interesting because it's such an everyday scenario, not like many other far-fetched riddles about monkeys and lightbulbs and stacks of coins and whatnot, and yet it's so hard for some to visualize the solution.

Perhaps I was only lucky to see the solution as Snarky described it - or actually, I kind of mentally superimposed the two routes, and saw that no matter how they're laid out, they have to cross at some point.

PS:
I see that Snarky moved this to the Rumpus forum, which I don't completely agree with, but I still hope it can steer clear from nonsense riddles en masse, and stay somewhat serious. I really like the time-travelling discussion, though :)

The Rumpus Room / Riddle me this
Thu 12/07/2012 11:14:30
Ok, so we were a group of people and someone told a riddle that went something like this:

A man walks up a hill one day, following a trekking route. He begins at the foot of the hill at 7 am and reaches the top at 7 pm. The next day, he descends the hill, walking the exact same route, beginning at 7 am and finishing at 7 pm.
The route is naturally uneven, with steep, slow parts and more level, fast parts.

While descending the hill, will there be a point, anywhere, at any time, where he can say "Exactly at this time yesterday, I was here"?
In other words - is there sure to be a point that he reaches the same time both days?

I see myself as moderately intelligent - I did take some math courses in university, with probability and shit, but am far from a logical mastermind - but I had no problems whatsoever understanding this riddle, saying "yeah of course." However, almost nobody there, and almost nobody I've spoken about the riddle with, could see this solution.

Now, you guys are genuinely clever, so I'm turning to you. Is this riddle really that hard? Isn't the answer quite obvious - yes, there must exist such a point, regardless of his pace, and regardless of the terrain?

Fixed the errors David and Nads pointed out, I hope. The download file has been updated.
Thanks Anian, nice thorough c&c :)

I don't really know why you can't re-enter behind the wall, but I'll look into it. I just discovered it's possible to leave with the saw, by simply interacting with the exit while holding the saw in the inner room, which will trigger the character to walk away before he's prompted to leave it behind. I will fix this bug.

Thanks for the nice words so far, it's really warming.

And thanks Snarky for your initial feedback and good advice, which I followed to the letter.

My game The Samaritan Paradox is officially in production.

A writer has died. His daughter seeks the help of you, Ord Salamon, to find his secret last novel. During the search, questions will emerge. Did her father really kill himself? What is the secret novel all about? What is going on on the island of Fardo?

I estimate that I've done roughly 10% of this game, all areas counted (except for music and voices, which I will probably pay someone to do).

The finished product will be for sale at a reasonable price in about a year from now.

Oh, I believe the Swedish-English (and vice versa) translation service isn't much worse than any other, despite Swedes' alleged fluency in English. My students use it all the time to dodge manual translation, which I routinely reprimand them for.
