Psst, Frito Master:

Let's keep this at least relatively serious :)

Thanks for your praise, my motivation went up 67%.
It was all the beautiful stuff in this thread that made me post something:)

Hello!
I compiled a few screenshots from my GiP (which is still too fresh to have its proper GiP thread), The Samaritan Paradox:

It's still a bit rough, but I'm working diligently most of my spare time.

What you say about the fps is rather puzzling.
Have you used the debug function to get your fps displayed on your screen while playing? If not, please do so and report back what you see.
As Khris said, the game shouldn't run faster than 40 fps even if you played it on Deep Thought, unless you manually set it to do so.

You can write your ideas here or PM me. (I guess PM is to prefer?) Of course I also answer any questions.

Thank you in advance!

(No, english is not my first language  :tongue:)

Hello! If you want people to PM you stuff, it's better that you start a recruitment thread on the designated board. If you want to use this open forum, let's have a public discussion, and maybe more people can take part of the creative process.

How about you envision one or two scenes that you think would fit nicely in your game, and then you develop them into a longer episode. And then you try to stitch these episodes together.
This may sound backwards, but some people prefer to go this way when they're having writer's block.

Please don't change your nick to deliberately impersonate other people, not even temporary. It's a fairly serious offense.
#1147
Yeah ok, that's an option.

I'm still a bit annoyed that the repeatedly_execute_always doesn't work at all the way it's supposed to; even copying the manual verbatim doesn't produce what it says it does...

Well, thanks Khris :)

PS:
Works splendidly btw, cheers!

(search function down, I think)
Ok, either me or this editor is slightly retarded.

I'm using Sierra's portrait style dialog system. However, I want less significant characters to speak with only a speech animation (i.e. no close up portrait).

According to the manual, I should be able to use something like this:
Code: ags

function repeatedly_execute_always()
{
  if ((cVisitor.Speaking==true)&&!cVisitor.Animating)
  {
    cVisitor.Animate (1, 4, eRepeat, eNoBlock);
  }
}

Never mind all the options with lockview or checking the loops or whatnot; I've tried it all - nothing happens.
I've controlled the function with other commands, and it's working pretty sporadically, I must say. If set the cEgo to move while he's talking (just to check if the code works), he waits until the line is said, even though I'm using noBlock and the repeatedly_execute_always() should work during blocking stuff.

So, is this function repeatedly_execute_always() working properly or am I stupid?

Obviously I can't use the built-in speech view since that would place the animation in the top corner, where the portrait should have been.

How can you create custom talking animations if not like this? Or more precisely, how do games solve the problem of giving some characters portraits and other speech animations?

I'm going slightly mad.

Ok, I split this from the original thread, as the original thread was a Rumpus-quality thread, while Snarky has written a serious post.

Come on, are we seriously debating whether women can be good leaders/bosses?
Good gravy.
#1152
Hm, it's a bit overdone, truthfully.
I mean, at least limit the credits to what you actually use; if you're not including the Mp3-encoder (or are you?) then why mention it in the credits? Same goes for the demo-game... will it be released along with your own product? I doubt it, so skip it.
Also, you don't have to include a lot of stuff that pertains to the editor - like whoever designed the buttons etc - since you won't release the editor.

But then again, thanking too many is probably better than too few...

I concur.
Awesome game. Hard to turn into a movie.

General Discussion / Re: Am I Getting Too Old?
Thu 24/05/2012 18:27:59
I'm 31 (as all the cool people around here), and the most noticable difference is that I need to sleep less in the mornings these days - which is kind of nice - and that I get drastically more hung-over after just a couple of pints - which is horrible (especially when I can't sleep it off in the mornings).

My votes go to Wham.

It's not out of laziness - I actually think he wins all categories.

And though I'm not a big fan of VGA graphics I can still say by the time your done the game play will be the best thing in the game. Game play is second importance to me followed by art. First though is story, you always need a good story.

What a wonderfully confused utterance.

"commercial version"
Will have a different storyline and art.
It is already of course all my code that the game is composed of.
[...]
I'm probably not going to work on this game much more.
I've gone back to what im best at which is hacking games.
Good luck and god bless to all.

There is a commercial game in the making, but you're not going to work on it much more? Or do you mean you won't work on this non-commercial game anymore? If it means that you will focus wholly on the commercial version, why is it you'll go back to hacking games?

Guys, there are limits as to how pointless threads we can tolerate here.

Maxine is cool enough to bump it up again  (laugh)

Note to everyone: The only reason Tabata hasn't been banned for this cheekiness already is that this thread was moved into the newly opened "Rumpus Room" board, where pointless bumping is allowed  ;)

Just to provide closure to this discussion, I'll bring attention to al Megrahi's recent demise.
http://edition.cnn.com/2012/05/20/world/africa/obit-lockerbie-bomber/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

I guess this means the diagnose was pretty legitimate, although it took 2.5 years instead of 3 months for him to actually pass away.

Cool stuff!
I noticed you're Göteborg-based, that's a quality mark if anything!

General Discussion / Re: Scotch come back!
Tue 08/05/2012 16:47:41
Yeah, most people come and go, but Scotch is just gone.

Funny by the way how some people return almost at regular intervals, drop in and say hi and then vanish again. Like Evenwolf, DGMacphee etc. Then Goldmund, who's only returned to talk about Donna, and AGA, who's returned only if he could be administrator :)
