That only applied to the first two mittens. Then they started to infiltrate our locales, those sneaky women

So the court is on the 15th floor, but most likely on 17th floor?
The mystery thickens!

I knew, after seeing Avatar, that it would be the global phenomena that it has become (I'm usually right about these things).  As is always inevitable, with popular things, the haters just love telling everybody why the movie sucked.  Using the same stand-by excuses that are always used; unoriginal story, bad acting, not enjoyable blah blah blah.

Darth, do you really think this post reads well? Since when are people not allowed to disagree?
I enjoyed Avatar, but I'm not impressed with the story...am I not entitled to voice this opinion without becoming a hater?

Alright, I'm not the best pixel artist around, but I think that sprite suffers from a severe case of pillow shading, which you can google and read plenty about.

The other thing that bugs me is that he's supposed to be seen top-down, but the face is still straight forward, which doesn't make sense.

Did a paint-over:

There's plenty to do in terms of colour count (mine isn't at all optimised), but maybe you can still get my points.

I see no reason why it couldn't be finalised very soon. So what do people think about Monday 26 July - Monday 02 August?

Sounds good to me.

Then this big guy come in and bets heavily and my friend has a hand that can't possibly lose, so this guy calling himself 'Uncle' convinces my friend that they're playing this big guy for a fool and that my friend should go back and get the money needed to call the big guy's hand.

This doesn't sound like Blackjack really, but anyways, good thing he went away

Funny, I don't perceive the cast shadow of the mast to be incorrect. I also fail to see how your red line is actually helping.
Either way, the moon interferes with the mast a bit awkwardly - the mast should either cover it partly, or there should be some space in between. However, I don't think Ryan's darker moon serves any purpose. A full moon can be very bright, and it just adds a nice dramatic effect.

When drawing the lamp light, don't overdo the light cone, or the spot where it hits the ground; street lamps are not spotlights, they're not used to illuminate one perfect circular area of the street. Give the ground some diffuse highlights, and skip the beam itself.

I think it's good, nice smooth colours - except maybe too much of the same brown? You could maybe vary that particular shade a bit.

Apart from that, only the perspective of the chest of drawers bothers me a bit. If it is in fact drawn properly, it's about half as deep as the bed, which is a tad thick for a bedroom chest :)

Goldfish, if it is your ambition to just start arguments all over the AGS forum (and then write about it in your blog) I suggest you think again.

Taking a quick look at your posting history, the majority of what you write is just complaints and insults.
If you really think you're making valid points, at least consider expressing yourself more politely.

It's not that low-res is better than hi-res, it's just that the bigger you make the background, the more you have to fill it with good art.
Every mistake you make in low-res will be magnified in hi-res and become much more flagrant.

There is a good principle that says that you should always do the most of whatever media and restrictions you've got, before you change to something bigger and more advanced. It's like when a beginner wants to start making film, and immediately buys a $5000 camera because it's supposedly the best, but since he can't handle it, the results end up worse than with a really cheap budget camera.

Either way, it seems that you've made up your mind already, so we can only wish you good luck with your endeavours

Hi everyone, thanks for the thumbs up, I hope it was useful to some :)

Yeah, keep sending backgrounds, but it'll take slightly more time for next chapter.

And keep painting!

It's funny how this thread keeps appearing, as if anything is different now compared to some time in the past.
People always move on, we'll always lose members and gain new.
I wouldn't even consider most of the members in that initial post oldies (as in EZ-board members), but everything's relative I guess.

Darth:
One person made a fortune (the man who stole it)
One person came out even (your friend, who didn't pay for the ring in the first place)
Another person came out even (the fiance, who couldn't care less if the ring now is in the hand of the woman who dumped him, or some dude in Spain)

So all in all, it was a good deal!

Allright, I've been hung-over and ridiculously productive this weekend. Here's the first chapter of my guide, comprising 5 backgrounds sent to me by generous AGSers.

Please note that this is not primarily a technical tutorial, it's based on very general art principles applied on various backgrounds.

Have fun!

PS
Will make it an html page soon enough

Jide, tracing is fine. It's not the best way to learn drawing, but it's not exactly a cardinal sin.

So please don't lie about it next time, just come clean and get over it.

Essays are good.
But I'm more into ergodic burlesque epistolaries, written in a highly extranoematic stream of consciousness style.

I watched it last Friday and I think I agree with the prevailing sentiment here, that while it was good eyecandy - probably the best sci-fi adventure so far in terms of special effects and details, the plot or the characters didn't really add anything original to the world of cinema.

The hours afterwards I was really adrenaline pumped, but then the effect waned and now I see it as a fun ride, but nothing more.

To be sure, I like the concept and the plot - how we demonize our enemies, how we blur the concepts of terror and self defence, the exploitation of indeginous etc etc - it's just that the core story has been told so many times before.

For me any time between the middle of June and first week of August is probably fine.

Wesray, that horribly tasteless anime picture has an even more horribly tasteless caption to it, in Swedish of all languages.
