If you find a big nice place, Nacho, you're likely to find two visitors there, sooner or later :)

I didn't mean the position to not consider the peace prize important, I meant the position you take when you enter a thread just to question why people who are into that particular discussion can bother to discuss it.
I think it's bad forum conduct, end of story.

So, yes, Voh, it's a perfectly valid stance not to care about the peace prize, and I can't say it's ruined my life and given me nightmares either, but if people are having a discussion, they apparently care about the subject to some extent, so why question that.

#1503
Ok sorry Eric, that was a bit childish I guess.
But I've always found it mildly annoying when people are having a discussion in a thread and someone barges in and asks how they can bother.
I just don't see the need to take that position.
#1504
Yeah, good post Eric, why care!???

Naturally, it's absurd that someone who supports the death penalty and currently wages a war in Afghanistan can earn the peace prize.

Then again, the fact that the world's biggest military power has elected a leader that isn't intellectually handicapped is so reassuring for the rest of the world that it's probably worthy of some sort of prize.

On a side note, I'm so tired of people calling everything a "cult classic".

If something is widely popular and has a broad following, it's not a freaking cult classic! Well, at least it shouldn't be. It should have to do with cults. But I guess it hasn't. Either way it's an over-used term.

I liked it.

Philip J. Reed did not.

He says it fails at creating compelling enough characters. And thinks Shaun of the Dead creates a much better narrative.

I feel so relieved now that I know what Philip J Reed thinks and says about the movie  :P

Sometimes it doesn't really help if the song is traditional, or if the original author is dead since hundreds of years; many large corporations manage to maintain copyrights, since, if you have enough money, you're free to tweak the laws in your favour.

Take for example "Happy Birthday", which is owned by Warner. It's technically illegal to perform this song without paying royalties, which is absurd, since
a) the melody is traditional and there's absolutely no telling who composed it
b) the words that belonged to the version owned by the company that was bought by Warner/Chappel went something like "good morning to all"
c) the words "happy birthday" etc were added by various groups of people, all impossible to identify
d) everyone who was originally part of creating this song, even though they're not identified, have been dead for probably a hundred years

It's interesting that copyrights only pertains to normal people, whereas a company, if it has enough money, can constitute their own laws and copyrights.

Monkey, clicking those links made me smile!
If there existed a thread archive, I'd put this one there!

Come on, LGM, get back up on the horse! Start a new thread already, and I'm sure it'll be a good one this time!

YOU CAN DO IT LGM

Yes, well, as I said; there isn't really any universal law here. If you take a look at screenshots of professional adventures games, you'll find all sorts of perspectives.

You can use a central focal point system throughout your game, and nobody will think "what a boring perspective!", but you can also use quite extreme viewpoints, and keep your original side-view characters, and people won't react or consider the sprites out of place.
#1512
Or, are you actually talking about perspective focal points?

In that case, there's no real thumbrule; pictures can work beautifully with any perspective system.
Then again, it is a common "newbie"-mistake to make pictures with two vanishing points, and cram both points into the picture, when it's preferable if at least one of them is situated for off the actual picture frame.

I think it'd be best if you published a few samples for us to critique.
#1513
Well that's a translation worth waiting for!

That's really nice, Eric, you have really developed as a pencil artist. I hope you produce more of that...

I dunno, had a hard time reading it because in my brain the text shifted from poetry to prose and back again.
The theme was a bit too melodramatic for me, too bitter-sweet.

As a poem, the verse meter is too inconsistent; either go with free verse or adhere to a strict meter. You begin with very distinct anapests, but after a few lines there's no tangiable rythm whatsoever.

Nice interviews.
Got me even more excited about Resonance.

I think it's pretty good, although it looks as though you've just traced a photo of Britney Spears.

The new neck shading is so much better it's almost silly.
The new skin tone is an improvement as well.

I think you need to kill more darlings here and exchange the last "inner" outlines with proper shading.
The next step would be to work more with colours to express nuances in her skin; not just brighter and darker but colder and warmer hues as well. And get rid of the last  yellowish remnants in her skin please....

This morning I SEARCHED my pocket for my KEY, and then I USED KEY on DOOR, and then I clicked HAND on DOOR to make sure it was locked.

My life is such an adventure.

There are some black lines there suggesting bone structure that really shouldn't be there. The mouth and nose too would benefit from softer shading/lighting instead of thick black outlining.

Also, I really think you should reconsider the skin tone. To my mind it just distracts from her over all image, and instead creates Simpsons-associations.

Sometimes when you've made a decision early on - in this case the colour of her skin - you grow so used to it it becomes difficult to regard the picture with an objective mind, and any changes appear as inferior to the original.
